Dipak Nandy was the architect of the Race Relations Act 1976.

His Marxist views don't sit well with me but I take my hat off to him for this. A fine achievement and huge step forward.

Morning, all,

As we settle back into a familiar routine, here is this morning's round-up of the day ahead...

The HoL have tacked yet another amendment to the WA bill (so far, rights of EU citizens, child refugees, No to Clause 33, No to courts lower than the Supreme Court overruling EU law). There may be another amendment but I kind of lost count.

Today, the amendments ping back to the HoC (which has already rejected most of these amendments and the rest are expressly against manifesto commitments and the Queen's Speech). Once the HoC has voted, the bill pings back to the HoL for consideration and third reading.

And there's PMQs of course.

In summary: busy day, PMQs, final ping pong. Hope Boris's team keeps him supplied with plenty of tea, coffee and sustenance.

In other news, the HuffPost reports:

"Still, an excellent day for Nandy was capped by a Channel 4 News focus group of ex-Labour voters tonight, showing unanimous support for her as the candidate to best win back their votes (although Emily Thornberry did well too). The comments for Starmer (“corporate”, “boring”) and Long-Bailey (“Corbyn clone” “angry”) were less than flattering. In a striking tumbleweed moment, not a single hand went up for Long-Bailey at the end. But only a couple went up for Starmer too. If he does win this thing, he’s got a lot of work to do with focus groups like that."

Closer to home, I am shocked that LangCleg has been banned. That is a serious loss. Her posts were the epitome of cold clear logic. I sincerely hope she finds her way back.

With the Landlady's kind permission, the complimentary breakfast tray is back - sausage butties. Cumberland or Lincolnshire, of course.

Kettle's on ☕️☕️☕️

Phew! That’ll do me. 😂

hospitalityinspector · 21/01/2020 23:01

LN's Father reportedly regards his daughter as insufficiently left wing according to Adam Boulton in Sunday Times.

EpicIndividual · 21/01/2020 22:43

Oh dear. Does that mean she is a Marxist? 😬

Obvs don’t want to assume her politics are aligned with those of her father, but given the circumstances it’s obviously quite possible. If she is, that’s a big turn off for me (personally speaking) as I imagine it would be for many others... (voters I mean, not members).

hospitalityinspector · 21/01/2020 22:27

Article in Sunday Times by Adam Boulton on Lisa Nandy.
'Her Father is Dipak Nandy, a distinguished Marxist and Academic. Her maternal Grandfather, Frank Byers was a liberal MP and life peer.'

That labour race pic Grin. They all look so funny.

Coppersulphate · 21/01/2020 22:03

Just got back,
Settle in by the fire. Large 🍷 please and some nuts or something.
Bad day.
Thanks for the pics. They have cheered me up.
Sorry about your little dog Xing. Arthritis is painful.

I think Lisa Nandy is good. She is the Wigan MP and I get the impression she is local. I was impressed by the fact that she wants action on local buses because many people use them for work. There is no tram system locally. She seems to know what the Wigan people actually do want rather than what the Labour Party tells them they want.
I think she is grounded and I think Boris would not try and take her apart. She's not arrogant like ET.

EpicIndividual · 21/01/2020 21:53

I haven’t even fully read it yet, but I can only imagine what it was like. 😂

EpicIndividual · 21/01/2020 21:52

Haha, sorry Time4! 😂😂 more research is of course welcomed on this important subject though! 😉

I know right dusty?

It’s the most brutal place on the internet!

Bless her. 😂 Almost feel sorry for her to be fair.

Ignore my ramblings all. I got problems when I actually said ET was more real than Emily Thornbury Blush
And goodnight.

Just for ref. And the opportunity to compare and contrast.

“Tell me more about Nandy. All I really know so far is that she voted in a Leaverly way to reflect the views of her constituents.”

Which speaks to me of her integrity at least. A rare thing for parliamentarians to be representing their constituents against their own personal beliefs. 🙌

The rest I’m not too sure, I believe she is a more moderate socialist from bits and pieces I have picked up? Can anyone confirm? And she is defo not continuity corbyn. So that’s a massive plus for me.

Thistimetomorrow · 21/01/2020 21:29

Xing when you referenced ET for a moment I thought you meant the real one as in ET phone home. Every time I see Guy Verhofstadt I think he is ETs double.

ommmward · 21/01/2020 21:24
