Dead kids in the US - future of the NHS?

Saltoftheearthmum · 28/11/2019 19:20

I was in tears earlier today. I saw an article about how so many diabetic kids in the US have died in the last month because their families couldn't afford insulin. It's inhumane that the richest country on earth allows kids and poor people to suffer without proper healthcare coverage.

We now know that Tories plan on giving US pharma access to the NHS if they win this election: are these stories from the US our future? How evil must our government be to risk lives like this? To barter the lives of our kids?!

This is what awaits us if we vote the Tories in again or am I wrong??

What people don't realise is that people die and are bankrupted in the us because of the healthcare system, but more commonly people don't get access to the decent modern drugs. If us pharma companies are allowed to increase prices those of us are are reliant on expensive drugs will find we cannot access them, they are already rationed despite strong negotiating

I have a disabled child and I am terrified.

We already struggle to get the support, treatment and aids that he needs. How much worse is it going to get.

All the Conservative voters better hope they never need social care or NHS treatment. You only find out how underfunded they are when you need them. And anyone can end up needing them. Bad luck can come to anyone, no one is invincible. But don't worry as long as your house price keeps going up it'll all be OK. The gov will take your house if you need old age care, but let's not think about that.

It's very scary. I've heard families are stockpiling insulin now in the UK

Have you really Hmm Presumably they are buying it from illegal sources because the NHS prescription system wouldn't allow you to stockpile it. You get enough for your requirements.

  • It will never go fully private What do you base that on? You sound pretty confident.
Scotinthenorth · 28/11/2019 19:59

Scaremongering yet again. Sick to the back teeth of labour banging on about the NHS. It’s all they’ve got. It will never go fully private and Labour knows this but they need to keep on saying it because they have nothing else and all you Labour voters lap it right up. It’s baffling.

Momentum bots? There are certainly a lot of Boris bots. Every thread I read on here is criticising Corbyn. If only such attention was given to the actual manifestos!

peoplearepeople · 28/11/2019 19:57

I hear you op. My child is a type 1 diabetic and has been since they were a baby. Life seems to be a constant worry for us at the moment with Brexit and now this.
Sadly I don't think many people actually care, or understand just how serious a disease type 1 diabetes is. They equate it with an old aunt or someone they once knew who was type 2 and had to have sugar free jam or some rubbish. (nothing against type 2's, I know it's also misunderstood) There is so much ignorance about the condition.
I could rant for ages, but really am so tired of it all.

Saltoftheearthmum · 28/11/2019 19:55

People are allowed different views to you, you know that right?

Thank God for Jeremy Corbyn

He will save us all

And long live all the Momentum bots!

Saltoftheearthmum · 28/11/2019 19:44

Love him or hate him but thank God for Jeremy Corbyn. The man cares about our public services, working people and mum's like us. The Tories will sell our NHS given the chance and I wouldn't trust the Lib Dems Cake to look after my cat, let alone the NHS, after what they did in government with the Conservatives. I'll never forget the 130,000 dead as a result of austerity.

FFS how many more of these scare stories are you people going to troll out?

I'm confused. Why would we be buying insulin from America?

HelloCheeky · 28/11/2019 19:35

Of course it will happen if the Tories get in and Brexit happens. Of course it will! How else will it be funded if rich people don't pay higher taxes and the number of staff from the EU plummets leading to staff shortages and upward pressure on salaries.

I always felt proud to be British. Now I am in despair.

By the way. Did you know that 13 states in the US have no minimum age for marriage? UNICEF regards marriage under 18 as child marriage and a violation of human rights. The USA and Sudan are the only countries in the world not to have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. And we want to leave the EU and cuddle up with the US?

Purplewithred · 28/11/2019 19:32

I may be being thick but what do you think is going to happen? I find the US healthcare system abhorrent too, but what exactly is going to suddenly dismantle the NHS and put us in a position where healthcare has to be privately funded?

Tolleshunt · 28/11/2019 19:25

I really really hope you are wrong.

It’s awful, those poor kids and their families. Dying for the ‘crime’ of being poor. And in one of the richest nations on earth.

BillywilliamV · 28/11/2019 19:22

We really don't know that at all. It may be true but we've not seen any proof of it yet, I'm a lib dems voted btw.
