EU elections, Thursday 23 May: are you voting?

Hello

As lots of you will know, eligible electors in the UK can head to the polls on Thursday 23 May to vote in the EU parliamentary elections.

We've put together a page with a few facts about this election in the UK (apologies for not covering other EU countries in any detail but you can find more info here).

Let us know on this thread when you've voted (you don't have to tell us how) and we will reward you with an emoticon of your choice*

Polls are open 7am to 10pm on Thursday and remember you DON'T need your polling card to vote.

Voted via dog walk. Have voted Green Party. If reasonable people don’t vote, Brexit parties will walk it.

If you care about Democracy at all then you should be voting for the Brexit Party. Whether you personally like Mr Garage or not - I don't particularly. These elitist buffoons living in their London bubble don't represent me or anyone I know.

Hello - if you're in England, Wales or Scotland, you're just voting for one party (OR one candidate, if there's someone you want to vote for who's the only representative of their party).

If you're in Northern Ireland, you vote by ranking in order of preference.

Sorry to be so uninformed - but I know which party I want to vote for but why are there so many candidates for each? And how do you choose? Or do you just vote for a party?

chalkyc2 in Great Britain you vote for a party. The country is split into a few large regions and each gets a few seats which are assigned to parties in proportion to votes. The parties in turn have lists of candidates in each region to take the seats assigned.

I'll be voting later. I'll also be giving a family member a lift to the polling station even though I wholly disagree with who they plan to vote for, because it's democracy and I still support their right to vote.

In this election probably more than b any n other, surely its the easiest decision ever? Want Brexit, vote Brexit party/want remain vote Lib Dem, not sure what I want/vote Labour. It's irresponsible and lazy not voting. Just as it is irresponsible and lazy not to vote in elections in general (particularly those who didn't vote in 2016)

I've voted this morning, because I'm proud to live in a country and continent where I have the freedom to exercise my democratic rights without fear.
I feel sorry for people who neglect to vote, they are deliberately disenfranchising themselves when so many people around the world worked so hard to achieve the rights they discard so carelessly.

I've never voted for anything to do with politics and never will. I have no interest and anything to do with politics at all. And I have better things to do. I really just don't care at all. And I won't apologise for it.

I sent off my postal vote as soon as I received it. I usually vote but have not bothered with the European Elections. However, this time I considered it essential to vote in order to send the UK govt a message about Brexit.

I voted for the Brexit Party Grin I voted to leave the EU. Tory and Labour are as bad/divided/shite as each other. Lib dems should remove Democrats from their name as they wish to ignore the referendum result.

@MaMaMaMySharona. Yup LibDem here for the same reasons.
Everyone in our house (DH, DD and I) is eligible to vote and I am pretty sure we are all of the same opinion.

@whyayepetal DD was old enough to vote in the referendum but needed a postal vote and, despite applying as soon as it was possible, it didn't arrive in time. A remain vote lost. Sad

I'm voting, I will always vote but I will admit in the past few years it's been much harder to find someone I actually want to vote for!

Got to work before polling stations opened but will tactically vote Green on my way home.

It is a hard won privilege to be able to vote in free and fair (as far as we know!) elections. Can't be doing with people who can't be bothered and then moan about politicians.
