EU elections, Thursday 23 May: are you voting?

As Labour and Conservative have more or less disintegrated it's likely that the Brexit party will do better than UKIP did five years ago. Will the total number of votes outnumber the total number of leave votes? It's Labour that's muddying the water on that one. Thanks, Jez.

Gosh. 24/73 UK MEPs were elected from UKIP in 2014.

So.... BrexitParty+UKIP (+EDs or other alt right) have to do better than 24/73 to say they have 'gained' in the EU elections.

I wonder what will happen.

Remember when UKIP gained hugely in local elections and then what happened to them since. Hmmm.

Our area often has a poor turnout for the EU elections, unless it's at the same time as a general election.

However, DD and I voted. DD for the first time. Lib Dem for both of us.

Langrish NI have a different voting system because apparently, the DUP are perfectly happy for them to have separate rules to the rest of the UK when it suits them...

All my Dh's Corbynite friends do in the face of opposition ( and to my irritation, him to some extent) is to find ways to discredit or mock to accuser. Their lack of self awareness is part of the reason why they are in the state they are in.

I voted SNP. As did dh and my parents.

Polling station was busy (at about 7.15pm) and the chap said it had been steady all day. Busier than he had expected.

I voted, I usually do, I think I've missed 2 or 3 in 44 years. The talk about suffragettes in 2nd year juniors (year 4) really stuck.
Dd voted at the same time as me and Dh is just back. Polling staff described turnout as 'steady'. I was on my own in the station but passed a family leaving on my way in and a few people were on on the way in as I was leaving. Same for dd. Our area usually has a quite poor turnout - it was about 22% at the recent council elections and traditionally Europeans have been lower. I used to work at a station on polling days and one european election we had less than 25 votes all day! Hope this one is better.

In a democracy we are free to make our own choices. Unless of course you are a Liberal Democrat where you reject a majority decision because you don't agree with it. And they can't see the irony of their position!

In a democracy there is a right to peaceful protest if you believe something is wrong.

As opposed to “37% of the electorate voted for something so suck it up”.

Because as you said it's a democracy where we are allowed to voice our opinions freely, so I'm quite happy to say brexiteers have fucked this country and deserve every shitty thing that happens to them.

My Vote has been cast. The polling station was empty when I arrived and there weren’t many names crossed off the page where my name was which disappointed me. Then I came to put my ballot in the box and had to wedge it down, it felt stuffed! A good dozen or so people turned up as we were leaving and lots of cars were going up to the centre so I’m feeling hopeful again.

I really hope there’s a massive turnout. Voter apathy has been just as huge a part of the current state we are in as the dodgy politicians in my opinion.

Fingers crossed that whatever happens with Brexit etc, it’s taught the general public not to be complacent about voting in future.

Lifelong Labour voter but voted Lib Dem as I am and always will be a remainer . J Corbyn should hang his head in shame at not picking a side. Wish he would follow Theresa out the door.

Always vote Labour, voted Change as I'm happy to vote tactically and relied on online guidance as to what would work best in London.

Fuck knows what I'll do come a GE though. I chucked my Labour membership in a few months back.
