Election night: Do you stay up for the results to come in?

No party politics/ campaigning / swearing/ ranting please.... just answers to a straightforward question

DH & I tend to stay up until about 2 am with some cheese & biscuits /fruit and wine to see which direction it's heading.

It's fun when you have those 'were you up for Portillo?' moments...

What do you do?

Telly in the bedroom, mix of dozing and watching.

DH had a hideously early start for work this morning, so he'll want to be asleep though. I'll have to have it on quietly.

I try to usually stay up until 2ish then set the alarm for 430

I usually stay up. What actually happens is that I fall asleep for a couple of hours, and then wake up. Usually just as something important is happening, so my subconscious brain is obvioulsy listening!

I don't always, but when it is an impotant one, or very hard to call, I do. I wait to see some of those key seats come in. I disctinctly remember the presenters being totally thrown by a couple of unexpected results and the rest was history. Never stay til the end, once those key swing seats are in, it is enough. Usually about 3 am.

Stay up but I'm abroad and big time difference I'm getting up at 4am, 10pm at home instead. I'm super excited and upset not to be at home. But worried I'll miss this with only radio to resort to!!

The last one I stayed up all night for was 1997.

I did end up being up all night for the last US election, but that was accidental. And totally depressing.

My daughter wakes a lot so although I usually try not to check my phone because the screen light then gives me insomnia, I'll be checking. But I'll be disappointed I know that!

I'll stay up for as long as I can but I might suggest to DH that he sleeps in the spare room so I can leave the radio on all night. I'm off tomorrow so I can catch up a bit of sleep.

I'd like to but I'm usually in bed by 10pm and I struggle to stay up late. I don't have to be up on Friday so I think I'll go to bed at 10 and then get up about 2am and watch a bit. DH seems to think the exit poll will tell us an accurate result but I can't remember whether exit polls are are useless as other polls.
DS2 is out clubbing tonight so plans to watch it when he crawls in and do an all nighter.

Yes. I stay up for three results. You always know after three results.

I did for the Eu ref and Trump. Both unbelievable and left me feeling rubbish the next day.

I'm planning on staying up tomorrow too, hopefully less disappointment!

I usually do but probably won't stay up much beyond midnight this year as I have to be on the ball for work on Friday. I was up until 4am in 2015! I'll definitely be getting snacks.

Yes I work at home so can catch up on sleep the next day. I usually sit with some snacks and doze on and off on the sofa for the night!

Not sure why as there is usually no conclusive winner until the early hours but I do enjoy the suspense of it all, the graphs/swingometer etc and even though it's generally a disappointing outcome, it's only once every few years so I figure a bad night's sleep is worth it.

Thought I remember my parents let me have a TV in my room for 1997 when I was a very politically engaged 12 year old. I have such fond memories of watching the landslide unfold in bed, dozing for bits and then waking up to Tony Blair making a victory speech in the sunshine. So exciting!*
*Yes, I was quite a sad 12 year old...

Yep. DH and I both hot the day off on Friday to catch up on sleep. Will pull out the sofa bed and doze in between the early results.

I'm planning to go to bed super early and sleep from say 8/9 ish until 12/1 ish and then watched from then, although that relies heavily on my children complying with bedtime so who knows!

Am considering sleeping from about 10 until about 2 and then seeing many results coming in rather than seeing a few before midnight and then flagging

I try to stay up as long as i can. I usually like to know which way its gone before I head to bed. Cant wait for retirement so I can have a snooze in the afternoon and a lie in the next day. Will prob be like a half shut knife on Friday
