Election night: Do you stay up for the results to come in?

No party politics/ campaigning / swearing/ ranting please.... just answers to a straightforward question

DH & I tend to stay up until about 2 am with some cheese & biscuits /fruit and wine to see which direction it's heading.

It's fun when you have those 'were you up for Portillo?' moments...

What do you do?

So, I fell asleep just after midnight, as did our TV/youview box, the former of which I think might be on its 4th GE!

We normally stay up until 11.30/midnight. I usually wake up in the night, so pop downstairs to check what's happening. Last night it was around 4am and results were coming in fast so I ended up staying up.

I never have before, but I will stay up tonight as I have the day off tomorrow (coincidence, not planned!) As soon as it starts looking like a Tory landslide I'll head miserably to bed.

Probably not this time, exit poll and bed.

But if the poll is inconclusive it will be very tempting. We live in an alleged .marginal so will be very keen to know about that - I;bet there is a recount.

Like the sound of a non argumentative thread but will probably end up on the Westminstenders one

No. I'll see what the exit poll says and then go to bed. I might check to see what is happening around 4am though.

Not a chance. Not because I'm not bothered by the result - I very much am. But I go to bed at 10.30 even at the weekend ! Why feel crap all day tomorrow by staying up to find out something I'll find out anyway when I wake up?

I stay up as long as I can or until you get a sense of which way it is heading. I won't this year. I can't get any excitement about it.

I'm staying up but I know it'll be depressing.

I kept an eye on the 2010 election because ds was a non sleeping baby so was awake sporadically.

I have to say that was depressing thinking I'd just brought a child into the world under a Tory government.

So I'll be equally as gloomy tonight

Yes, always stay up. Book the Friday off work as soon as the date is announced!

Yes, always. Usually nod off from time to time and jolt awake when something exciting happens. Generally hang on until the result becomes more predictable. Have booked tomorrow off, either to wallow in misery or join in the celebrations!

I don't sleep much anyway, so it doesn't affect me badly.

i ususally do for elections but cant tonight as i couldnt get tomorrow off work, so planning on heading to bed soon and get up about half 4

I stayed up for the referendum. I smoked so many fags and drank a fair amount of red wine that night.
Might stay up tonight but i no longer smoke and don't know how i will get through it.

I stayed up in 1992, which was depressing. Houseful of depressed students, all piled up on the tiny sofa.

I'd love to stay up tonight, but I am working tomorrow and was late to bed last night so not sure how long I'll hang on.
