Use the NHS for ANY reason
Have children considering going to university
Have elderly parents who will require state support
Use public transport
Are a teacher, health professional, public sector worker
Live in rented accommodation

I wonder how many people who vote conservative because they don't like Corbyn are going to look at the landscape after the election with Corbyn gone, a huge Tory majority and nothing anyone can do to stop them implementing whatever shitty ideas they like (there is money for schools, they've just been spending it on land for free schools that never open or immediately shut down wasting millions), and think 'bugger'. 5 years of unfettered Tory rule.

Corbyn isn't going to win. No chance of that at all. A vote for Labour/Lib Dems isn't a vote for Corbyn or Farron as Prime Minister, it's a vote against a massive Tory majority.

justnowords · 05/05/2017 10:49

The main thing that irks me about Tory voters is when they bleat about caring for the poor/vulnerable/disabled. No you dont. These people are so far down your list they might as well not be on it. I have some acquaintances that vote Tory but I have some sort of respect for them (even thought i vehemently and fundementally disagree with them) as at least they are honest. They openly admit they believe that most disabled and benefit claimants are on the fiddle/get too much financial help and want these reduced, in line with what the Torys are doing.

Bolshybookworm · 05/05/2017 10:48

AND how do you think the conservatives will help the NHS, Ginny? What have they done that's alleviated the situation? I also work with NHS funding and as far as I can see they have just made it far, far worse.
Labour made some big mistakes with the NHS but they were trying to fix the damage done under 18 years of conservative rule. Did labour put in place the internal market? The management systems (who were responsible for the poor PFI deals) were put in place by the conservatives. Labour tried to fix the NHS and failed. The conservatives actively try to destroy it. Labour are the lesser of two evils when it comes to the NHS.

If you don't know that you can see how MPs vote then you need to do some research before you embarrass yourself any more.

User99573864 · 05/05/2017 10:44

Welcome to Democracy, I can vote for who I see fit.

And it's not Labour.

SemiNormal · 05/05/2017 10:44

OP, are you even old enough to vote? It certainly doesn't sound like it.

Bringmesunshite · 05/05/2017 10:42

What, like the vote on whether we should have an election or triggering Article 50. You mean THOSE Tory policies

chicaguapa · 05/05/2017 10:42

I wonder how many labour MPs vote against tory policies?

You don't need to wonder. Every MP's voting record can be seen here. www.theyworkforyou.com

peggyundercrackers · 05/05/2017 10:37

I wonder how many labour MPs vote against tory policies?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/05/2017 10:35

How about you stop throwing insults about and grow up OP?

I won't vote Labour whilst Corbyn is in charge and going by the results there are a very large number of us.

HTH

GinnyBaker · 05/05/2017 10:31

I don't vote tory, and I'm not ashamed of myself! Confused

I have a (voluntary) role in hospital governance.

As such I don't think there is anything more galling to read than this 'vote labour to save the nhs' nonsense.

The labour party, in government, placed the NHS under a burden of debt through PFI that has crippled it.

The UK PFI debt is FOUR times the size of the budget deficit used to justify austerity.

When you actually see, on a spreadsheet, where the NHS funding is going down the toilet to pay this back it beggars belief.

"The NHS has more than 100 PFI hospitals. The original cost of these 100 institutions was around £11.5bn. In the end, they will cost the public purse nearly £80bn. The total UK PFI debt is over £300bn for projects worth only £55bn".

Source: article in the independent

Save the NHS (if its not too late) by not voting labour.

Bringmesunshite · 05/05/2017 10:22

"Don't vote for personalities"? Sounds like desperation to me.
This is a horrible situation. I hate the Tories. I voted Remain. Where were Labour, then.
Don't fecking guilt trip me when some if the most economically deprived areas of the UK voted Leave and got us in the mess we are in now. Helped by JC and his team.

Bolshybookworm · 05/05/2017 10:21

Unless you use private education/healthcare then you are incredibly naive in voting conservative. When Cameron came in, he said the conservatives would cut NHS funding but it wouldn't affect frontline care. It was patent bollocks- waiting lists have soared, A&E is a mess, mental health care has crumbled. We're back to where we were in 1996. Lansleys reforms have buggered up the funding system. Cuts to local government have pulled the rug from social care adding further burden to the NHS.

Gove has buggered up the exam system and that's before we even start on school funding cuts. My friends that work in teaching are already seeing the effects of this, especially in deprived areas. It breaks my heart that a generation of kids will have their access to a decent education destroyed. How can any government think that the best way to support society is through destroying educational prospects for the young? I genuinely don't get it. It's short termism at its worst. Schools are an easy target for cuts but the long term ramifications are massive.

If you genuinely think that A Conservative government is going to look after the welfare state then you your head is buried so deep in the sand it's probably in Australia. They will dismantle it, as they have done so, drip by drip, for the last 35 years. Then it will be your kids who have to live without free health and social care. Who have to carry the burden of the cost of their elderly parents. I'm sure they'll thank you.

If you don't want to vote labour that's fair enough (I'm not a Corbyn fan either) but that doesn't mean you have to vote conservative. Use. Your. Brains. Do you want a welfare state? Then don't vote Tory. It is that simple, it really really is.

As for the economy Grin You're taking the piss, surely? If May et al. continue on their current path we will end up crashing out of the EU and then our economy will be totally screwed. It's beyond me why anyone thinks they're even remotely competent to get the deal that we need. Shouting loudly doesn't mean that what you're saying is correct, does it? May is all talk and absolutely zero substance.

When did this country lose its collective ability to think critically?!

I keep waiting for the Conservatives to do something, ANYTHING sensible but, nope. It's just all empty sound bites, slogans and shouting at the EU. If you're taken in by that then you're either rich or a fool.

midsummabreak · 05/05/2017 10:16

vote for the party and the policies not for the people
What you are sold in the media about personalities is all endless crap
Don't believe the media hype about party personalities

seafoodeatit · 05/05/2017 10:16

I wouldn't vote Tory if you paid me, living in an area where 'virgin care' have now taken over a lot of the local services makes me want to cry, they just privatize and sell off everything they can whenever they're in power.

Figaro2017 · 05/05/2017 10:15

Why so many pro Corbin threads?

Momentum struggling to make Labour under Corbin credible so they have taken to spamming social media?

Come June 9th Labour will be looking for a new leader and Momentum can hive off and form their own party.

Bringmesunshite · 05/05/2017 10:14

Seriously, the ONLY thing that matters in this election is who will deal best with Brexit. We have no idea about how it is going to affect our economy and therefore it is pointless to make promises about more police and more unicorns or whatever the current Labour front bench is promising.
Can they manage Brexit, yes or no? And if JC's holiday escapade in the run up to the referendum is anything to go by, the answer is No for Labour and Fucknose for the Tories.
I will never vote Tory but I am not going to vote Labour this time. Gonna lock me up, op?

chicaguapa · 05/05/2017 10:14

I am a Tory and I believe in public services, but they need to be paid for.

Do you think they will be cheaper then if they are privatised? Or will we all end up paying more for them when someone is providing them for a profit?

You don't think that the priorities for funding are led by ideology? That privatisation isn't to give businesses the chance to grow and prosper in line with that?

One day when our economy is strong again (in 10 years, post Brexit) there will be no NHS or state education to speak of. So it'll be too late then to say that there is enough money to make it decent again.

MoreThanUs · 05/05/2017 10:13

The Conservatives are evil.
You might neee to get some historical and global perspective on that.

Nutterfly · 05/05/2017 10:12

We need a strong and sustainable economy

Yes, we do and that's why I'm not voting Tory. The deficit has shot up much higher than it did under Labour, and it's due to their financial mismanagement.

They appear to have no concept of the difference between spending as investment, and spending as unnecessary expense.

Most of their cuts are ideological, not practical and end up costing far more than they are saving, and that's reason the economy is doing badly.

I seem to remember someone asking in parliament about what kind of cost-benefit analysis had been done before making legal aid cuts, and they admitted they hadn't done one, and now court costs are up much higher than they're saving on legal aid. Just plain stupid.

It's a bit like me saying money is tight so I'm going to tighten my belt, so I decide to cut childcare and transport as some of my biggest expenses.
And then when I can't get to work or have someone to look after my children when I do, then the fact that I'm no longer earning a salary just can't be helped because I'm being responsible by tightening my belt and cutting expenses.

To use another analogy, the common metaphor is that you need to fix the roof while the sun shines, but you need to fix it if it rains too.
If you don't because it's 'too expensive', all that happens is it ends up more expensive in the long run because you left it too long and now you also have to replace all your belongings due to rain damage.

The Tories are like Trump -- really good at shouting how good they are at the economy, but there is no actual evidence.

FluffyBathTowel · 05/05/2017 10:12

How exactly is Corbyn going to make the NHS and education better though? I've only heard vague promises about pumping a lot more money into it gained by taxing higher earners more etc. It all seems a bit wishy washy and reminiscent of Boris & Nigel with their big money promises prior to the EU vote. I'm not being goady but if anyone is able to answer I am genuinely interested.

Am not a Tory voter btw, I feel no affiliation to any of the parties at the moment.

oldmum22 · 05/05/2017 10:11

OP on your list I qualify on 7 out of the 8 yet I cant see why I should be ashamed of myself. What I do see ,is an ineffective opposition with no sound policy for the future. A shadow Home Secretary who cant be bothered to read her briefing and a Opposition leader who quotes "Mary from Manchester" or "Daniel from Derby" as examples of the voters questioning Government decisions.
Provide a strong ,decisive, eloquent opposition and maybe my vote would be different.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 05/05/2017 10:09

I don't understand how anyone can vote Tory but I will defend their right to do so. Different people have different priorities and will vote for what affects them personally. In a lot of cases I'm sure it's not a case of voting for what's best as a case of voting for what is least damaging
What I hate most is voter apathy, people need to turn out and vote, regardless of who they're voting for, people need to get motivated and to feel their vote can make a difference.

chicaguapa · 05/05/2017 10:08

It's no wonder our politics and country are up the swanny when the counter argument to 'what the hell is happening to our public services?' is 'well the opposition are a bag of shite anyway'. Hmm

Cantseethewoods · 05/05/2017 10:07

It may make you ill advised in that (in your opinion) those people may not be voting in their own best interests, but it doesnt make them hypocrites- hypocrisy being when someone claims to have noble beliefs which are not supported by their actions. An example of hypocrisy would be if, say, you opposed private schools in the interests of social equality but then you sent your own child to one.......oh, wait a minute.
