Trump is all for that - clean water, clean air, even wind power etc, but alongside clean coal and other forms of energy.

He doesn't believe the elite's carbon stuff, and is likely to give much more promotion to scientists like Jeremy Corbyn's brother, Dr Piers Corbyn, who will be able to explain to the BBC why they are wrong, and Trump will likely change the whole direction.

The one direction, "la pensee unique", political correctness of thought will no longer be able to bully Dr Piers Corbyn etc and the truth will come out.

four I am not paying for my lot to learn to drive because I am convinced self-driving electric cars and public transport will be the norm within the next 10 years. Already in the City plans for some in the US and Far East. I think the compulsion will need to be directed at consumers to the largest extent.

Climate change -this is the only thing that makes me uneasy. Even if we get past the lies, clean living and alternative forms of energy remain enormously important. Sometimes, forcing companies to invest in these may be the only way to get behaviour change. I hope that the pendulum doesn't swing back too far the other way on these things. I look forward to majority-electric cars!

The fact that the world has been shown the picture of the people's President, Trump, and the former leader of the People's Army, Farage, (the first British politician invited by Trump and his team to meet Trump) in among the glitter and the gold, laughing their heads off and Trump doing a thumbs-up sign, is a message to the entire world and the UK Establishment and EU Brussels Establishment, Merkel, Juncker etc that Trump and his team consider Farage a top guy and Brexit a good thing.

For a good laugh, here is a Rod Liddle article on Trump's victory

Spin, steady..... I was enjoying it up till then. We nearly managed to retire Farage off.....until those meddling remainers refused to let the issue lie. Hope Nigel doesnt get sucked in too much, Im sure all the glitz and glitter is tempting though! What a week and it just keeps going!

Farage has a very high profile in the states. The right wing media laud him as the saviour of the western world, sometimes literally. Certainly on TV over there far more often than over here.

On another note I'm hearing that Kennedy is going to retire from the Supreme court too.

Lots of permutations but Trump could even end up with a 7-2 conservative split as one of the sitting judges ( who is even older) has been somewhat undiplomatic about him.

Bananagio I have a tendancy to over simplify. A lot. But ive enjoyed reading your insights and appreciate the complexities are far wider and far reaching than we'd ever get a handle on here in the UK. Thank you. I certainly didnt intend to put Berlusconi up as an anti-eu poster boy, but simply to say that he and indeed Italian politics today, have to be viewed on the EU stage. The comparisons to Trump indeed media wide today too, still miss what I feel is a critical element. The EU. Trump in comparison is dancing on his own stage.

I also believe their motivations are different. Trump, for possibly the first time in his life, can afford to be principled. Hes 70. He has absolutely nothing to lose. (Im sure he will have secured his wealth before embarking on this perilous voyage, hes not a stupid man) The election campaign was indeed gameplay, thats all, he plays to win. But he has now won. He has the top job.

I think we will indeed see a different Trump, and I think his supporters are right to have belief in what he may achieve. There would have been no point whatsoever, sending the Dalai Lama into the foxes den.

To fix Americas issues, you need an American solution. And Trump, in so many spheres, is it.

Simple fact is he has a mandate and by far the biggest threat to his plans comes from the house.

Now those reps, and an awful lot of them didn't and won't back Trump were probably planning on showing Trump that the party was stronger than one man.

They won't however do it on TV. You need shadowy corners to get someone in the back with a stilletto :D

Wow. It is brilliant. It cements Trump's position and opponents can be hammered on it and it will pave the way for Donald Jr to take over in 8 years' time.

It means that Trump is here to stay, he means business and all the pompous politically correct political classes won't be back for at least 16 years.

Trump hasn't announced any official posts and his family won't be doing them because they are mainly business people, not "career politicians". Eric Trump is disgusted by a lot of the political class he had to meet along the way, but I think that Donald Trump Jr will be the next President of the United States after The Donald, because Don Jr is really good and has caught the political bug while on the campaign trail helping his father.

So even when The Donald stands down, the people will still have a champion to counter the political correctness of the elite. The elite won't be back in charge for many years to come.

In another parallel to Berlusconi, I think there will be some form of Trump TV coming with all the favourites - the Stump for Trump Sisters, Donald Jr and lots of non-politically correct pundits and commentators and of course, Farage, and in eight years time, Donald Jr will be the next President.

So the world can sleep safely. Trump beat the elites and they won't be back any time soon.

claig Bossi stepped down mired in allegations of appropriation of party funds amongst other things. Think he may still be president though? Another one who gained a lot of support by positioning himself as anti-corruption following mani pulite in the early 90's. He was convicted of some form of corruption not long after as well IIRC.
