Thing is there's already capital flight from China. The foreign students in the US are being told not to return by their parents who funnel cash to them. Over invoicing through Hong Kong is another phenomenon. Also a lot of Chinese companies opening up abroad and then subtly winding down their mainland business.

It all hints at little confidence in the yuan.

It's almost as though he has a long term economic plan. Scary! Doubt it'll catch on.

What are your thoughts on the euro area?

I think what will flummox people is that he won't go with a blanket policy or joined up anything but will go with a series of one by one deals that will form a pattern and inform the next step. Pre-planned-off-the-cuff if you like.

It wouldn't even need the payment of interest.

It doesn't seem as though Trump accepts the neoliberal consensus that trade is not a zero sum game. Whenever he talks about it he does so in win and lose terms, which might merely be simplification though he clearly understands the complexities.

Weaponised dollars? Doesn't seem unlikely does it....

Inflation means T bills are worth less, China can't dump. US improves liquidity, dollar inflow. Position to buy back treasury bonds and cut ties with China? Do you think there is chance of persuading investment of entire offshore holdings in return for tax amnesty and payment of interest? I haven't thought about Asia yet

Yes huge implications BoredofBrexit.

The EU is trying to tax grab American profits, particularly Ireland. If he amnesties them, which is a no brainer, and incentivises them to invest in the US then he can finally cause some inflation.

There is however a world shortage of dollars..

And no mechanism for central bank swaps between China and the US.

This sounds like inflationary pressure in the states and massively deflationary in the developing world. Interestingly India very recently withdrew it's largest denomination banknotes causing chaos. More than likely we are at the beginning of another Asian currency crisis.

I can't for the life of me figure out what it will mean for us though.

BoredofBrexit, yes, Trump wants to slash corporation tax to 15% and allow trillions of dollars held offshore by US companies to be brought back without high taxation on those funds, which will lead to more investment and jobs in the US. It will pull that money back from abroad.

Claig, Spin, I heard last night that Trump wants to incentivise to return to the US the $2.5trillion of US profits currently held offshore, and restructure to cut China's hold. That will have massive global economic and political repercussions if successful.

Trump is the elite. £1million more people voted for Clinton than for Trump. This is not a revolution either by or for the people. That is probably what will come next.

Judge Jeanine's opening statement after Trump won. Trump phoned Judge Jeanine and thanked her for her support.

She hits all the issues that brought about the Trump revolution - revolution, power to the people, political correctness, lies and bullying by global elites etc

They are still spinning like crazy on our TV news channels against Trump, our Oxbridge teams, but they are all spinning for the elites who lost to the people.

See I'd love a genuine punk revolutionary Robin Hood - most people would I suspect. But Trump so isn't that person. He lives life for his own amusement - hypocrisy and self interest are part and parcel.

Murdoch and Jerry Hall were costing up with Trump at one of his Scottish golf courses earlier this year. I was rather hoping there might have been a hideous golf cart accident but no such luck.
