Trump vs Clinton Round 3. Probably the biggest debate ever.

I have spent my whole professional life working towards this goal. However, no matter how much I read or theorise, I can't reconcile two issues. One - the privileging of decision makers in all human societies and two - the inability of two opposing ideas to coexist peacefully. There is no way to reconcile these two things.

We can work towards anything, but it's not to do with poor people and immigrants per se. The current problem is diametrically opposed cultures. The refugees & immigrants into USA between 1850 to 1950 were from various parts of Europe: Russia, Scandinavia, Ireland, Germany, Poland, etc and there was no culture shock, people got on with finding ways to put food on the table and for the most part people rubbed along well enough. Some remained poor, others became well off. These were the people who built the cities of USA.

Humans, or indeed any other species, don't live like that and never have.

It's a good thing the founding fathers were never told about that when building up the "United States" of America, with their open borders.

The US is an example of how it can work. With richer regions and poorer regions. With local governments and a Federal government.
I'm surprised California, NY and Florida, for example, don't close borders to prevent the stem of immigrants from poorer regions and different cultures. You know, cultures where racism and sexism is still a thing.

It's a lovely dream but does not match reality.

Martin Luther also had a dream. It hasn't matched reality yet. I wonder if it ever will. It didn't match reality then.
It's not to mean that we can't work towards it.

Smokers already contribute billions to the Exchequer in taxes and should be allowed minor operations. The problem though with major surgery is that healing and recovery is poor in smokers, and general anaesthesia dicey.

It's a lovely dream but does not match reality. Humans, or indeed any other species, don't live like that and never have. It's an artificial way to structure society. It's not how we group ourselves. There wouldn't be such a variety of species on the planet if nothing was different. You can't eradicate difference. Difference isn't bad. It is what it is. It's a fact of life. We can still trade, do deals, exchange knowledge and help one another, just like we have always done, but there's no way to remove the variety of ways in which living organisms adapt to their various environments, which create differences between them. We could equalise everybody in an 'we are all identical' way but then we have small problem. Who makes the decisions about how we live? What Hillary is proposing (open borders) has never been observed and it won't work because in order to avoid anarchic decision making (Diamond, 2005), someone will have to take charge of it (big chief, village elder, Hillary stateswoman) - and that's when inequality sets in. We can be egalitarian toward one another across our differences, but we can't be identical. It's an impossible (and dangerous) dream. It's not nationalism that kills people. It's the decision makers. But we all know this already.
