Oct 20th 2 am UK time.

Last chance for the Establishment to stop the Trump surge in the polls.
World leaders will be watching, Establishments will be tuning in on the edge of their seats in trepidation.

People will be laughing, diving into the popcorn and knocking back the alcohol.

Round 3. Rock'n'roll.

I like Will Self. He is very clever and funny even though he was anti Brexit and pro Establishment on that one. I like him because he has the courage to say things others won't say, even though he gets his pro Establishment stuff wrong.

Great Presidential Apprentice Challenge, Lweji! Grin

ZuleikaDobson · 18/10/2016 22:15

You can't dismiss the polls by reference to Brexit, primarily because this is an electoral college system, and Trump is struggling in the areas where he ought to do well. It doesn't help Trump if he gets thousands of people to his rallies if most of those people either live in a small state with few votes, or live in a state which would support him anyway.

Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:14

This is good. Will Self on Trump as a giant fatberg.

Claig, I think you will actually quite like this, notwithstanding your tireless promotion of the inevitable shit explosion as a desirable end point.

ToujeoQueen · 18/10/2016 22:07

That should read there are various Trump Towers in the US.

ToujeoQueen · 18/10/2016 22:04

There's multiple Trump Towers in US Cities, the one in Chicago, for instance is 98 floors.

Lweji · 18/10/2016 21:57

Absolutely, he is far more popular than Hillary.

No, he's not. He's far more unpopular.

His tweets, OTOH, are popular.

Lweji · 18/10/2016 21:56

As far as I am aware, Trump Tower is 6 floors.

Sure. Grin

But that would be in keeping with a secret government meeting on a secret non-existent floor.

(sadly, Trump tower has 58 floors)

I'm interested in Trump interests on the 45th floor, though, that might pose a conflict of interest if he becomes President.

claig · 18/10/2016 21:56

'He's generated millions of likes.'

Absolutely, he is far more popular than Hillary. His base is enthused and will turn out. Hillary may not get the same level of turnout from millenials and minorities. The media is all in with Hillary and they are spinning like crazy, but we might find that it is exactly like Brexit where the Estabishment were shocked and were in tears. There were reports that the sobbing of the elites was heard from Land's End to John O'Groats.

I also think he'll do it. Lots of under the radar non-obvious support going on such as comments at the end of articles. This is interesting:
www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2016/10/18/trump-chatter-breaking-all-records-facebook/92363936/

They don't know if the chatter is positive or negative. He's generated millions of likes. He's certainly an unusual candidate (hence the interest), which alone may carry him over the finish line.

claig · 18/10/2016 21:51

'Is that on the Trump tower?'

As far as I am aware, Trump Tower is 6 floors.

Are you referring to the 7th Floor Group?

Is that on the Trump tower?

claig · 18/10/2016 21:45

'In the end, a small group of invisible people, who've been running the whole show but that nobody knows who they are but that everybody knows they exist, will decide who wins.'

Are you referring to the 7th Floor Group? They met on Wednesdays, God knows what they did the rest of the week Shock

"New FBI release on Clinton email probe refers to 'Shadow Government'
...
One revelation in the documents came from an interview with an unidentified person who suggested that Freedom of Information Act requests related to Clinton went through a group sometimes called "the Shadow Government."

"There was a powerful group of very high-ranking STATE officials that some referred to as 'The 7th Floor Group' or 'The Shadow Government.' This group met every Wednesday afternoon to discuss the FOIA process, Congressional records, and everything CLINTON-related to FOIA/Congressional inquiries," the FBI's interview summary said.

Ivanka married a jewish man, not Trump.

I'm sure she has her own mind. How many people marry against their parents' prejudices?

claig · 18/10/2016 21:41

'So what ? Many politicians compartmentalise private lives and politics
He has a genuine prejudice against black people & Latinos, but is quite willing to play with fire wrt anti-semitism.'

He hasn't got a prejudice against black people and Hispanics and i think you will find that he will be very supportive of Israel when he gets in.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/10/2016 21:40

oh good. Thought i'd got the day wrong. I'll watch it when it appears on my recorded program lists.

Lweji · 18/10/2016 21:39

I'm also thinking that the US should set up a Presidential Apprentice challenge at each election. (it might happen if Trump becomes President)

Week 1: One candidate is sent to Iraq and the other to Syria and each has to sort out ISIS in less than a week. Double points for not being blown away by terrorists or bombed by the Russians.

Week 2: Each candidate is given a house and has to build a garden wall and get the neighbour to pay for it.

Week 3: Each candidate must get the most donations for their favourite Foundation in two days. At the end each must sell a speech at a charity dinner for the highest amount.

Week 4: Each candidate must run a casino and manage not to get bankrupt by the end of one week. If they do get bankrupt, they may be recalled at the end if they manage to offset their losses not to pay taxes until week 9.

Week 5: The candidate with the largest number of emails published in the press wins. Double points if they get the Russians to hack their email account.

Week 6: The candidate with the largest number and the most likes on 2-6 am tweets wins.

Week 7: The candidate that manages to stay the longest behind the other on camera during a debate wins.

Week 8: The candidates organise and host a beauty pageant. The one that manages not to upset the contestants wins.

Week 9: Each candidate presents a CV, a policy plan and is interviewed by Michelle Obama. I pity them.

Week 10 and final: Each candidate organises a rally. They will be scored on organization, soundbites, number of groups they manage to insult and how many hats they sell.

In the end, a small group of invisible people, who've been running the whole show but that nobody knows who they are but that everybody knows they exist, will decide who wins.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/10/2016 21:38

claig I'm quite aware of Trump's son-in-law, like Farage's German wife.

' Determined to stay up tonight for the debate. Is anyone else watching it?'

It is on Thursday morning here, Wednesday night in the US.

'I've put more money on Trump.'

I think he will make it, but there are rumours that more Trump tapes may be on the way and Larry Flynt of Hustler Magazine has put a $1 million dollar reward for anything that they may want to publish.

I think Trump will have to really go all out in the third debate to negate anything else that the Clinton team may have lined up for him.

The second tape of the Project Veritas voter fraud stuff is out on youtube

No wonder some of the political class are against voter ID.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/10/2016 21:33

'His opening sentence:

Are you aware that Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka, converted to Judaism and is married to a Jewish man?

Conservatives, like Colin Powell, who oppose Trump do so because he has crossed the boundaries of civilised politics:

Trump, from the start, has deliberately inflamed race hatred, appealing to the worst prejudices about Mexicans, African Americans, Jews, women

He has brought racism out of the closet.

I've never before called an American or British conservative a fascist, but that's what he really is.
His nearest equivalents are the far right politicians in Europe, like Le Pen or the Golden Dawn leaders.

Some Jewish people think the hidden message of a sinister world elite is like the 1930s allegations that rich Jews secretly rule the world.
The Jewish GOP donors have reacted too:
