Oct 20th 2 am UK time.

Last chance for the Establishment to stop the Trump surge in the polls.
World leaders will be watching, Establishments will be tuning in on the edge of their seats in trepidation.

People will be laughing, diving into the popcorn and knocking back the alcohol.

Round 3. Rock'n'roll.

They're all criminals and they all pull out the terrorist shite on some poor group of people when they want to nick everything from large numbers of people ( not just the group targeted) and crush the culture of anyone who calls them out on their crap. 9/11 was payback for the holocaust - problem is many of us were also targeted or fought on Allied side and now don't know what to do Sad

Clinton and Trump are two sides of the same fascist forces at work. Neither are going to represent our interests.

claig · 19/10/2016 01:13

The polls are unlikely to be accurate.

Here is an interesting article from teh BBC's Jon Sopel of why Trump will win and why Trump will lose. It depends which arguments you think are most convincing.

Will Self is an Oxbridge elitist who thinks the "underclass" can be managed so that they will then do the right thing and not vote for Farage or for Brexit. That is probably what they teach them at Oxford. They think people have no real beliefs and convictions and that if the metropolitan elite treat them nicely and pat them on the back, then they will vote for the metropolitan elite.

Here is Chuka showing the patrician patronising view of ordinary people that is shared by the metropolitan political class. If he teaches people to do emails, then they will vote the right way.

"Ukip voters feel disconnected because they can't send emails, Chuka Umunna says

Labour's shadow business secretary says 'a lot' of people who voted for Ukip 'can't do things like' sending and receiving emails and browsing the internet"

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/labour/10918012/Ukip-voters-feel-disconnected-because-they-cant-send-emails-Chuka-Umunna-says.html

That is how stupid these metropolitan politicians are, that is the level of superiority they feel towards ordinary people. That is why Trump is going to win, because these elitists disrespect the views of ordinary people and think they are all stupid or racist if they don't agree with the metropolitan elite.

Just in case anyone wants to read a short reasoned analysis of what is likely to happen in the election.

Claig, I know that NPR is full of frightened elites running for their lives, yada yada yada. No need to google it and then set me straight.

(NPR is national public radio in the US and one of our national treasures, superior to the BBC by yards - now that is controversial!).

You know Blair hasn't been in power for quite some time right? If it's The Establishment circa 1998 you're intent on bringing down this could explain a lot...

claig · 19/10/2016 00:45

'So what did you love so much about will self before you read this I wonder?'

I still like him. Just because i disagree with him on lots of things and think he has the fault of being an elitist, doesn't mean that I can't see his good points of clever and funny writing.

'Now I know it is your mission on here'

I haven't got a mission, I am not a Blairite like you.

'I think you can find a fair amount of common ground.'

I like him. I read him because he is clever, interesting and funny, but I still disagree with much of what he says.

'It is the policies of neglect creating gross inequalities which produce the tide of shitty resentment '

No that is not what the patrician patronising Self is saying. He thinks people were stupid to vote for Brexit as he says to Dreda Say Mitchell. He tells here "they are not the people you think they are". He looks down on them because he is scared of them because he and his Oxbridge elitists are outnumbered by them and in a democracy, as Dreda Say Mitchell says, they decide and not him and his elitist mates.

It is the same for Oxbridge Blair who says he no longer "understands" what is going on in politics and that is why all the elitists are so scared of Trump because they can't control the people and they can't control Trump.

OP posts:
Kaija · 19/10/2016 00:36

Now I know it is your mission on here to suggest that the harnessing of that resentment by demagogues on both sides of the Atlantic is going to produce a bright new future, and that Self doesn't have such a rosy view, but apart from that, I think you can find a fair amount of common ground.

Kaija · 19/10/2016 00:33

No Claig, you are (wilfully I assume) misreading it. It is the policies of neglect creating gross inequalities which produce the tide of shitty resentment amongst those who have received the worst end of the deal.

So what did you love so much about will self before you read this I wonder?

claig · 19/10/2016 00:19

Unfortunately, Will Self is an elitist who looks down on ordinary people, in my opinion. I thought he might be Oxbridge, and it looks like he is. He is similar to the Oxbridge New Labour crew who think they know better than the people. They are miffed that the people disagree with them on Brexit and lots of other things. No wonder the elitist doesn't like Trump. This shows what he thinks of people he calls the "underclass".

"Looked at in this way, the ten-tonne fatberg that almost completely blocked the sewer in Chelsea, west London, last year was a true representation of the British underclass: out of sight is out of mind, until it bungs up the entire political process and the constitutional drains start to back up.

Nigel Farage is a fatberg politician. His physical manifestation may be a mucilage of sanitised patriotism and fatty Brit bigotry, but what has put him centre stage is a wave of shitty resentment."

The "underclass" are shitty, dirty, fatty bigots because they don't agree with him and his Oxbridge metropolitan mates.

You can see what a rude, desperately scared Oxbridge elitist who realises that the people disagree with him, he is when he rudely dismisses the excellent Dreda Say Mitchell who supported Brexit and is polite in the face of his arrogant, entitled elitism.

Yes, sorry Toujeo, it was Claig I meant.

claig · 18/10/2016 23:52

Here are the Stump for Trump Sisters putting the lying "mainstream media" right as only they can. "Don't get it twisted".

ToujeoQueen · 18/10/2016 23:52

Kaja what I meant was I read it and got the gist of it. I'm agreeing with you Smile

Kaija · 18/10/2016 23:51

I think you should stick to writing reviews of things you haven't read. You're actually better at it.

claig · 18/10/2016 23:31

'Strange, he speaks very highly of you.'

And so he should. I like him, when he is on Radio 4 with Points of View, it is fascinating. He is clever, he is a thinker, he thinks outside the box and he is funny. But this was poor, this was cliched, lazy toilet humour with no real insight imparted. It was empty, cliched BBC2 adolescent male teenage whizzkid humour, the type of thing the BBC and Channel 4 are full of. I prefer the Stump for Trump Sisters. They are a riot.

'A perfect assessment of where we find ourselves at this moment.'

It is a perfect assessment of where an anti Brexit Establishment suporting metropolitan elite Remoaner like him is at - up shit's creek without a paddle.

OP posts:
Kaija · 18/10/2016 23:23

Strange, he speaks very highly of you.

It's a great article. A perfect assessment of where we find ourselves at this moment.

claig · 18/10/2016 23:07

I have read it. It is a very poor article. He plays with language and tries to show off with his metaphors, but it is the type of thing a teenage whizzkid from Oxbridge working for the Orifice of Tony Blair might find amusing.

He overeggs the pudding, overdoes the metaphors

"It is often said of the Titanic that it was the world’s biggest metaphor. The Titanic set sail from Southampton, its intended destination New York. The fatberg that is called Donald Trump is a very big metaphor indeed"

All his verbal play and pompous language "the vast carceral latifundia" just emphasise the emptiness and banality of what he has to say.

He clearly likes toilet humour and although he says this about Farage

"a wave of shitty resentment"

that really sums up his article.

I prefer the Stump for Trump Sisters "don't get it twisted". I don't like the elites showing off and using condescending and pompous language to make no point at all.

OP posts:
Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:58

Haha, that's the way: write the review first, read (or not) after.

ToujeoQueen · 18/10/2016 22:52

Ha, good article Kaija.

claig · 18/10/2016 22:50

'He is by no means uncritical of the establishment in that article'

I didn't read it because there was so much about toilets and flushing etc that I thought I was watching a BBC2 comedian and I skipped the rest because that is just lazy BBC type writing, which is probably why it is in the New Statesman.

I will struggle to read it again to look for the good antiestablisment bits, if there are any among the toilet stuff etc

OP posts:
Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:46

Which makes me wonder once more how committed an anti-establishmentarian you really are.

Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:45

Your review is a rather nonsensical though. He is by no means uncritical of the establishment in that article. That's why I (genuinely) thought you would like it.

Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:43

Shame. Is it just the scatology you object to? Seems like a wholly appropriate metaphor to me, unfortunately.

claig · 18/10/2016 22:24

A poor article by Will Self. It is the type of scatolohgica invective that you would expect to hear from BBC Establishment promoted Oxbridge comedians. Very poor for him. He is usually better than that. The Establishment has probably put the screws on him or something.

OP posts:
claig · 18/10/2016 22:20

'and Trump is struggling in the areas where he ought to do well.'

It probably comes down to Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Don't believe the Establishment media, they are all bricking it and lying like there is no tomorrow for the lot of them. Remember what the Stump for Trump Sisters said about the media

"they tell lies, they fan flies and they are full of alibis"

I think the "alibis" part was a euphemism as the Stump for Trump Sisters always retain their decorum.
