They have voted 18-14 to allow Corbyn to stand in the leadership election.

One less stitch-up in a season os stitch-ups.

Go Corbyn!

By Tories voting for him Seven, do you mean the £3 supporters ... Cos he won in all categories, it was a landslide across the board. You make some good points OP and you've cheered me up. Am frankly furious we're having to go through this again. I didn't intend to vote for Corbyn last time, but I went to hustings and he convinced me. When all this coup nonsense kicked off I thought ok, put up a candidate I can believe in ... But no. No. I'm gonna have to vote for Jez again - Eagle and Smith? No. Their previous statements and voting records are a disgrace and I don't believe for a second that either of them could win a GE.

Been in and out of the Party for 30 years but if we lose Jeremy as leader I think I'm off for good. The scale of the disrespect for the membership is now too much to tolerate.

Sorry about the vent. Feel better now though Smile

The media roll Stephen Kinnock out on TV to lecture the Corbynites. They are delusional if they think anyone cares what these Oxbridge teams think. The people have gone way past the Blair spin, the lectures from former Labour PM, Gordon Bennett, the admonishments from Lord Kinnock, Stephen's father, or Margaret Hodge calling the kind, avuncular, allotment tender, Corbyn, "a devious man".

No one saw Brexit coming, no one saw Trump and Sanders coming and no one saw Corbyn coming. But Corbyn is here and he is giving them all a run for their money and it is a real breath of fresh air and offers hope that politics might actually change and work for the people for once.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 16/07/2016 18:17

They are the past, the same old faces, the same old spin.

Lisa Nandy, Lou Haig, Jess Phillips' Karl Turner etc all to the left of the party. All resigned.

Too simplistic and dismissive to just call everyone who doesn't want Corbyn a 'Blairite'.

He isn't a 'leader'.

claig · 16/07/2016 18:10

'Huge difference between membership and Labour voters.'

Labour have a membership of about 500,000, many of them young, enthusiastic idealistic people. The Tories have 150,000 mainly over 60s. Labour is the future, but it won't be with the Hilary Benns, the Chukas, the Angela Eagles etc. They are the past, the same old faces, the same old spin.

''The plotters should be ashamed': Labour voters on why Corbyn should stay – or go'

www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jun/27/the-plotters-should-be-ashamed-labour-voters-on-why-corbyn-should-stay-or-go

My guess is that ordinary Labour voters on the door have as low a regard for Hilary Benn and the 172 as non-Labour voters. If non-Labour voters think Corbyn is a breath of fresh air, what must Labour voters think who have been yearning for the end of spin and Tory-lite austerity and war supporting votes etc.?

'I would love him to be PM but it's delusional to think he ever will be.'

We were told the same about Brexit. they said we could never beat Cameron, the bankers, the IMF, the SNP stooges, the unions and all the rest, and yet the street parties happened and Labour MP Keith Vaz was practically in tears (not tears of joy, unlike the Brexiteers) saying he never believed the British people would do it.

The reason there is a such a hostile media spin campaign against Corbyn is that the Establishment is terrified of him because they think he might win and if he does, he won't do what they tell him. It's a new politics, a grassroots politics, a people's politics and the stooges are left high and stranded. They wanted to keep him off the ballot, they said that "rules is rules".

OP posts:
PigletWasPoohsFriend · 16/07/2016 18:02

Almost nobody thought he would win the leadership election

Huge difference between membership and Labour voters.

Also need to gain swing voters and those voting UKIP and Tory to have even a chance of winning.

'Three-quarters of newspaper stories about Jeremy Corbyn fail to accurately report his views, LSE study finds'

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/jeremy-corbyn-media-bias-attacks-75-per-cent-three-quarters-fail-to-accurately-report-a7140681.html

It doesn't matter what the chums try, nothing works for them, the public still aren't fooled by it.

If Corbyn wins a general election I will throw a street party. I would love him to be PM but it's delusional to think he ever will be.

claig · 16/07/2016 17:52

'He won because half the Tory party voted for him!'

No, the Blairites did not vote for Corbyn.

And Cameron wants Corbyn to step down, he says "for God sake, man, go". The Tories want a chum from Labour they can deal with, someone who understands the system's wishes and will carry them out. Corbyn is the last person they want in charge because he just won't go along with the phoney scams and spin.

OP posts:
AndNowItsSeven · 16/07/2016 17:45
  • Tory although they do tell a good story.
AndNowItsSeven · 16/07/2016 17:45

He won because half the story party voted for him!

LazyCake · 16/07/2016 17:36

AndNowItsSeven, how can you say with such confidence that, with Corbyn as leader, Labour will never win power? Almost nobody thought he would win the leadership election, yet he did. At the outset, nobody believed the referendum would result in Brexit, yet here we are. Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, etc. - all kinds of changes are afoot.

What appears certain is that, if Labour doesn't drastically change, then it is finished. With rip-off Tory policies, it hasn't won an election in over a decade. In 2015, it was wiped out in Scotland and the southwest, as well as massively losing ground in South Wales and its English heartlands. I am reminded of that Einstein quote about insanity being keeping on doing the same thing and expecting a different result....

claig · 16/07/2016 17:32

'You do realise with Corbyn as leader Labour will never be in power.'

You are wring. Labour will never back into power with Hillary Benn, Angela Eagle and that shower. The public mood has changed substantially. The public can't take any more spin and no straight answers. They no longer trust the political class which is why the reelled in Brexit against Cameron, the IMF, the bankers, the Labour Party, the SNP stooges and all the rest of the self-serving elites and media spinners.

The public now want an ethical politics that deals with the people's concerns, not the bankers' concerns. That is why Corbyn won a landslide in the Labour leadership election and stunned all the Oxbridge teams when Corbyn started as a 100-1 outsider. The only hope for Labour is for Corbyn to start getting tough with the stooges and to take control of the party in order to present a unified vision to the public in the face of media tricks that try to stop him.

The public have had enough of the spinners and the Establishment cronies and stooges. That is why Corbyn is so popular among the people and so despised among MPs and the media.

Here is Channel 4's Jon Snow

"The Corbyn factor: shocking the political system through sheer normality

90 per cent of Labour MPs did not vote for him, but 59.5 per cent of Labour’s 422,664 voters did. The disconnect between Westminster and British politics writ large.
...
I have blogged before about the alienation and disillusion that so many feel from the whole Westminster circus. Corbyn’s record is the antithesis of honours, expenses fiddling, war and austerity. It is those issues that have driven so many to the Corbyn cause. Yvette, Liz, and Andy just could not distance themselves enough from the Blairite past and the Westminster present."

blogs.channel4.com/snowblog/jeremy-corbyn-shocking-political-system-sheer-normality/25745

The Establishment are in pieces, Oxbridge is on overtime, spinners are being sacked; none of them can understand the Corbyn phenomenon, or Farage or Brexit. The world has changed and they have been left behind. The people are in the midst of a popular revolution and the media can't stop it no matter what tricks their best and brightest try.

OP posts:
AndNowItsSeven · 16/07/2016 17:20

"Go Corbyn" I can't decide if you are 12 op or a Tory supporter. You do realise with Corbyn as leader Labour will never be in power.

LazyCake · 16/07/2016 17:18

oldbirdy, I don't like some of the comments Corbyn has made about the IRA either. I have tried to rationalize them, but they're just plain wrong.

I shall be voting for him, though: not for ideological reasons (I'd hesitate to call myself left-wing), but because he is the only candidate who can bring the change that is so desperately needed. I believe his respect for ordinary people and the processes of democracy is absolutely genuine. I also think that he is just about as close to incorruptible as a flesh and blood human being is likely to get. These are reasons enough for me.

claig · 16/07/2016 17:04

'I don't think my point about Kosovo has been adequately answered.'

Germany was behind the bustup of Yugoslavia, as Croatia and Slovenia would end up in its orbit and just as in WWII, the Serbs, who were our allies in WWII, ended up being attacked. That was why Tory historian and MP, Alan Clark, was against that war. The objectives of the war were to take former communist Yougoslavia out of the Russian Slav spehere of influence and begin the process of bringing those countries into NATO and the EU, as well as the usual privatisation of industries and banking interests etc. That is what wars are all about. The "humanitarian" stuff is a smokescren and cover that is used to foll the people and which the media are charged with rpromoting. Corbyn understands all of that because he was in charge of "Stop The War".

'And no one has even answered about the IRA...'

On the IRA, Corbyn believes in a united Ireland. He sees it as a leftover from British imperialism. I disagree with him on that, but that is what he and many far left socialists believe.

OP posts:
oldbirdy · 16/07/2016 16:56

I don't think my point about Kosovo has been adequately answered. Hitler had a plan to conquer lots of Europe. Didn't make it right to stand back and do nothing. We live in shame for failing to intervene in Rwanda when the Hutu had a plan to overthrow the ruling minority. And no one has even answered about the IRA...

oldbirdy · 16/07/2016 16:53

Well I am just an ordinary person who has been jumped on and vilified for suggesting on social media that I thought Corbyn should step down after the vote of no confidence. So I don't need to be convinced that there are a load of people being immensely verbally aggressive in Corbyn 's name. I don't think he supports that (except for the lovely McDonnell's gaffe about fucking useless plotters) but I do think it is an issue he needs to control better.

claig · 16/07/2016 16:40

The "crying woman" has been all over the BBC and media. It adds fuel to the Corbyn "bullies" story.

OP posts:
claig · 16/07/2016 16:38

RhodaBull, excellent point, some people said exactly the same thing to me about that.

OP posts:
RhodaBull · 16/07/2016 16:32

Labour is at at the bottom of the pit at the moment.

Watching the news last week, the crying woman and the Shadow Education Secretary who looked and spoke like Catherine Tate doing "Am I bovvered?" just looked awful and if Labour is to stand any chance in the future there needs to be a massive broom sweeping out all the sub-standard people. Do they find it difficult to find electable people? Because it sure looks like it.

claig · 16/07/2016 16:30

Corbyn actually has the potential to win a general election and Corbyn cannot be controlled by all the bigwigs and bankers on earth. That is why the Establishment is desperate to stop him, that is why the media briefs against him.

OP posts:
claig · 16/07/2016 16:27

Corbyn voted against the Iraq War, Angela Eagle voted for it. Corbyn has remained true to his principles throughout his entire career. Corbyn is unlikely to sell out, he isn't after fame or fortune or promotion by bankers and bigwigs; he hasn't gota Faith Foundation or a Charidee, he offers no advice to dictators, his palm is never greased, he only wants to do what he thinks is right and then return to his humble allotment.

OP posts:
claig · 16/07/2016 16:22

Don't forget that Corbyn was in charge of Stop the War. If there is one thing Corbyn really does understand, it is how these wars are run and who benefits from them.

Corbyn gets some things wrong, but he does operate from a more moral base than most politcians. He is not on the board of any companies, he doesn't get cushy professorships or posts where the bankers and bigwigs tell him what to do; he just marches with the unions and tries to stop wars and killings.

OP posts:
claig · 16/07/2016 16:18

'I still don't see how that means sitting back allowing mass killings of Muslims and 'ethnic cleansing' is morally right'

It was a war and there was the usual war propaganda involved. There wer atrocities on all sides. You need to google to find out what really happened. Go to left wing sites like antiwar.com and globalresearch.ca to see what really happened. It is no use following the BBC if you want the truth.
