Could somebody explain why Corbyn shouldn't be voted for as Labour party leader?

I've listened to people argue this, but haven't heard a reasoned argument yet. The main criticism appears to be, "he's on the left" but don't go on to explain why that in itself is a bad thing.

"Oh, the Metropolitan elite - those London, Islington types? The politicians who have never done a proper job apart from being an MP for 32 years for sitting in that ivory tower they call Westminster?"

If you are referring to Comrade Corbyn, he worked as a union official and served the people as their representative in Parliament. That is a proper job as long as it is representing the people and not the Establishment.

'Or do you mean the Metropolitan elite who went to private schools, work in the city and fly private planes? Who scrounge millions in expenses from the EU then put themselves forward up for - oh no, not again - election as an MP?'

I didn't know that Farage flies private planes. He takes the same expenses that the Establishment approved MEPs are granted and steadfastly serves the people by advocating exit from the Establishment approved club. That is not metropolitan elite, that is People's Champion.

sorry that should have been
"humble and obedient servant Burnhams' 1480s"

Isitmebut · 15/08/2015 14:40

Nah, Corbyn with his Hamas and Hezbollah hat on, would have probably bombed Charlie.

Corbyn is a Marxist prairie hat, more comfortable with South American dictators and Middle East terrorists, than he would be with the English royal family/establishment, it hardly makes him a leader of the UK. Idiot.

claig · 15/08/2015 14:40

The Establishment approved Labour leadership candidates say that Corbyn wants to take us back to the 1980s, but that has got to be better than servant Burnhams' 1480s, surely?

claig · 15/08/2015 14:32

'Then again, they're not those awful comprehensive school upstart northern types who are also standing as leader of the Labour Party.'

I am not sure who you are referring to there. But one thing is for sure, Corbyn wouldn't have signed off a letter to Prince Charles in the way that servant, northerner Andy Burnham, did

"I have the honour to remain Your Royal Highness' most humble and obedient servant"

Surely so long after Thatcher and the current success of Ms May holding down a difficult Home Office brief (at a very difficult time) for so long by a woman on the blue team, it is time for the red team to 'woman up'?

Of the two, not that anyone cares, but the only one I'd ever vote for as somewhere close to the real world and has learned from Labour's mistakes, is Liz Kendall.

LumpySpacedPrincess …. That’s a bad cough you have there, I’d get it sorted, but I’d humbly suggest it is a tad different between the allegations of abuse by a serial accuser against Clarke, and the allegation of an MP’s wife against Prescott, who had an affair with someone in his office waving his ‘chipolata’ manhood (I believe was her comparison) – with an M.O. of wanting to know whats up a woman’s dress.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/jul/30/actor-kenneth-clarke-sexual-assault-perverting-course-of-justice

”Fellows had also claimed he had been abused by a number of people in the entertainment industry, including a senior female executive at the BBC who, he claimed, seduced him when he was aged between 14 and 16.”

”Speaking after the verdict, a spokeswoman for Clarke said: “The police always made it clear that they regarded Mr Clarke as a victim and a witness in this case. Since receiving the verdict, they have assured Mr Clarke that they regard this matter as closed, and Mr Clarke takes the same view.”

The secret diary of Tracey Temple, aged 43¾
www.theguardian.com/media/2006/may/02/pressandpublishing4

”Then, on Wednesday 18 2002, pretty much with no warning, the diary morphs from The Office into some kind of 70s soft porn film, and it's rather easier to see what Prescott might take issue with. Temple dresses up for an office party in a black dress ("low, button up the back") and ... "as soon as the boss arrived he lifted my dress jokingly to see my stockings".”

Corbyn is not one of them, that is why there is a frantic Operation Stop Corbyn where everyone who has benefiitted from their support, promotion and patronage now has to repay what they owe and go on TV and try their best to stop Corbyn and stop the people.

claig · 15/08/2015 14:14

straggle, the whole lot who serve the Establishment

straggle · 15/08/2015 14:05

LumpySpacedPrincess · 15/08/2015 13:37

So because John Prescott is sexist then that means all the men in the Labour party are right?

Um, have you looked at the Tories lately IsItmebut? cough Ken Clarke cough

Isitmebut · 15/08/2015 13:34

I'd suggest with male charmers like this in the Labour Party, it may, just may, be time for a FEMALE leadership as a 'change' for the better.

John Prescott denies sexual assault on MP's wife because she's 'built like bloody barn door'

”Peer and former deputy prime minister vehemently denies allegations that he stuck his hand up a former MP Austin Mitchell's wife's skirt, saying “the f**cking house” would have fallen down if he had.”

Corbyn's speech scaring the daylights out of the metropolitan elite

“The poor, the vulnerable, the weak deserve a political system that works for them and helps them.

“The rich, the powerful that benefit so much from our political system, don’t care what kind of name calling goes on providing their tax breaks go on.

“I’ve got news for them. We’re offering something very different in this campaign and it’s gaining amazing levels of support.”

'it’s gaining amazing levels of support'

That's why every has-been, could have been, may be and wannabe has been asked to appear on TV to bring Labour party members to their senses and save the metropolitan elite.

squidzin · 15/08/2015 12:36

Hahahaha Corbyn a "hot dirty shag"

Viviennemary · 15/08/2015 12:25

If only they had shown some of that venom towards Milliband who was a total twit and entirely unelectable. I hope Corbyn does win. Might shake up the lot of them.

claig · 15/08/2015 12:22

'LABOUR leadership hopeful Jeremy Corbyn has said critics who have resorted to personal abuse and attacks on his character are “nervous about the power of democracy”.'

www.scotsman.com/news/politics/top-stories/jeremy-corbyn-critics-nervous-about-power-of-democracy-1-3857421

Corbyn is all about democracy. He will bring democracy to the Labour Party and that will be the end of the Blairites. Corbyn is a man of principle, he doesn't change his principles to win elections, he is true to what he believes.

What if he decides to bring democracy, not just to the Labour Party, but to the whole country by giving us PR voting where every person's vote counts no matter where they live?

That is what frightens the metropolitan elite, that is what will frighten the Tories and the Labour elite who serve the metropolitan elite.

A party that served the interests of the combined numbers of the working class and middle class could not lose an election. No tricks, no speeches, no name calling, no bigwigs lecturing the public could stop it.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 15/08/2015 12:13

As much as I despise UKIP and all they stand for it was disgusting that they had so many votes which weren't converted into any form of representation.

ProfessorDent · 15/08/2015 12:02

Corbyn might be good for the short term, in winning back some seats from the SNP, then hand them over to the next Labour leader.

Corbyn represents Labour's hot dirty shag. For years they sided with the nice guy, nice smile, steady job for once rather than always drawing dole, bringing home the bacon in a nice detatched house, shame about the sex nu but he's good with the kids and but Christ why does he have to be so fucking dull? Later she finds out he was involved in dodgy dealing or was never that committed anyway. Along comes an old flame that's reignited.

That's Corbyn. It's a hot dirty shag, a chance to reconnect, a fling for old time's sake after years of compromise, gritting your teeth and putting up with the niceness of the other guy. Who suddenly seems to be out of a job/not so electable after all.

squidzin · 15/08/2015 11:59

Let's work on the Windsors next absolutely.

Viviennemary · 15/08/2015 11:58

The establishment don't want Corbyn that's a certainty. I heard he is anti royal. I applaud him for that. How can you be a sociaist and support the idea of a royal family. He is a genuine socialist. And not many of that lot are.

squidzin · 15/08/2015 11:58

Remember the Jewish Chronicle is trying to smear Corbyn because he is anti-zionist, not anti-Semitic. The jewish fear mongering wont wash either.

Claig for leader! or was it JC i cant remember anymore ?

claig · 15/08/2015 11:52

"Corbyn is antithesis of `plastic' Blairites"

www.irishnews.com/opinion/columnists/2015/08/05/news/corbyn-is-antithesis-of-plastic-blairites-211856/

That is why Corbyn is popular. He is for us, not them.

You can't turn the TV on without seeing them, the servants, trashing Corbyn, calling people 'morons', saying that decent lifelong Labour members 'need a heart transplant'.

They are desperate, its all hands to the deck - Stop Corbyn, stop the people. Servants of all stripes have been called upon, former ministers and current ones - Stop Corbyn, save Sure Start is what they have all been coached to say.

claig · 15/08/2015 11:36

'Andrew Marr: British politics is broken – the centre cannot hold

“None of the above” is a great war cry – but our apathy and rejection of the mainstream parties are likely to lead to chaos and instability.'

www.newstatesman.com/politics/2015/03/andrew-marr-british-politics-broken-centre-cannot-hold

Andrew Marr thinks it is doom and gloom. But he is metropoltan elite, Oxbridge, BBC, old school, old ways, Establishment, great and the good.

It is bad news for the metropolitan ellte - no more Blair, but it is good news for the people - no more Blair.

claig · 15/08/2015 11:28

sunshield, Corbyn may even have the courage to go for PR voting, which would leave Cameron exposed as the only one advocating the status quo. There are lots of Labour voters in the South of England but currently their votes don't count.

The status quo has collapsed, the centre is collapsing, Blair is a tired old spinner, we have a new politics and the metropolitan elite are in shock at what the people are showing that they prefer.

sunshield · 15/08/2015 11:23

Sorry meant to say Conservatives could lose 27 seats and still have a majority in a 600 seat parliament !
