Good luck to SNP MP Mhairi Black

She is phenomenal - just 20 years old, SNP MP.

"I'm not the one who should be nervous, the people who are responsible for so much poverty and so much struggle in people's lives, they're the ones who should be nervous becase they're the ones who are going to held accountable for all the damage that they do to people"

Thet are going to shake our usual spinners up. They won't know what hit them. The SNP have some great women MPs - saw some of them on TV over the weekendm a real breath of fresh air - they are going to shake things up and not put up with the bowing and doffing of caps crap.

They don't conform to the traditional profile of our useless lot. This is a bit like the movie "Mr Smith Goes to Washington". I can't remember what happens in that movie though.

I would say good luck to Mhairi Black, I hope she can make an impact. But I think the reality of politics is that it is very difficult to achieve much, beyond attending to constituents' problems, as an Opposition backbencher. I think it's actually quite a frustrating role especially given that so many issues the new SNP MPs are interested in are devolved. I was listening to Dr Philippa Whiteford, the breast cancer surgeon. She sounds great but surely shw would be better as an MSP, able to have a say on tbe Scottish NHS?

BlueBrightFuture, you're right it was about the economy, which is the overspending but there was a fear that Miliband might be able to form a coaltion if he joined with the SNP and then we were likely to get 5 years of Ballsian economics etc

The prospect of that terrified some UKIP, LibDem and even some Labour voters and forced them back to the Tory modernisers' fold.

I think the tide really turned when Ed said he did not think that Labour overspent during their time in government. That was the curtains moment in my opinion. The possibility Lab/SNP combination does not worry me more than a Lab government tbh..

There's a youtube video of Mhairi Black speaking to chunkymark, the Artist Taxi Driver. In it she says the Establishment and Westminster are reeling, you can feel it everywhere, she says she was elected not because of her but because of the popular mood against the system and the Labour Party which have ignored and failed ordinary people and she says it is really a moral thing and she has a duty to carry out the people's wishes.

In that interview, chunkymark doesn't swear as he usually does, so it is safe to watch without getting a shock.

I think MPs like her are not the usual career politicians who need to climb the greasy pole. They didn't join for that, as she says they are here to shake the system up. In that way, they are like UKIP. They are the Tartan Army and we are the People's Army.

dementedma, our MPs and metropolitan elite are the people who think PMQs is too beastly for them and they want it tamed down and made committee-like where they all hold hands and sing kumbaya.

I think the SNP won't put up with that metropolitan malarkey and some of their firebrands will create fireworks. It will be entertaining

Hollow laugh at "impress the Central Belt of Scotland". In much of Scotland, Central Belt is as much of a dirty word as Westminster is to the SNP.

It was really a combination of three major factors - the economy, the SNP (which is again about the economy and socialism etc) and the fact that Miliband was not leadership material.

Many of these new and unheard of SNP MPs were voted in on the Nicola factor. Nicola Sturgeon is an experience and skilled politician, capable of holding her own against the big boys/girls. These raw new recruits are fresh meat at Westminster for the old hands, and will be chewed up and spat out again.They are in a for a big shock, in a fierce political arena where just waving a Saltire and crying "freedom" isn't going to cut it. Should be entertaining to watch though.

I totally disagree, I think they will have zero effect in Westminster; people voted Tory because they support their policies, not because of any negative influence or fear of another party.

The reason that the SNP will make a huge difference to English people is because the SNP s far more likely to have an effect on what happens in England than the Scottish Labour MPs did. The SNP will make a real difference and the fear of them is what handed a victory to the Tories to a large extent.

Just as Thanet has made world news due to UKIP, places in Scotland will make world news due to the SNP.

Not quite. The SNP unlike other parties is run from Scotland, unlike "Scottish" Labour etc
When it comes down to it parties have to please the highest concentration of voters - for the SNP that is the central belt of Scotland, for "Scottish" labour that is the SE of England.

I think the SNP will teach "the English" no more about Scotland than the 59 MPs Scotland has always had, many of them at the very centre of government.

The SNP are not some kind of extra special Scots with special Scottish superpowers. They are just people, same as the other people who represented Scotland before.

And many of them have a lot to learn about Scotland.

No need to get shirty. I don't know much about the North or West of England either, but now that UKIP are the main opposition in the North, I will learn more about it and you will be able to learn more about Essex - the home of the UKIP insurgency.

Posted too soon - the tweets tell me she isn't mature enough for the job. Time will tell how she does and people will be watching her very carefully to see if she slips up.

Many of the new SNP MPs only joined the party a few months ago and again I just don't feel that's enough time to get prepared for a political job.

Whilst I don't support SNP, I do feel a bit sorry for her. I feel there will be a lot of things she will feel out of her depth on simply due to her age and lack of experience. She's about to finish university but being an MP isn't a graduate entry job, its not a traineeship.
