Brilliant result for SNP voters. Amazing. Most significant change in British electoral history ever. Truly historic.

Very good results for Conservative voters.

UKIP is now the 'official protest party' in England and Wales.

Where they stand after an UK Referendum on the EU, is anyones guess.

Arguably the Conservatives have the SNP to thank for the seats they kept/picked up, and the possibility of a majority in parliament by a whisker.

Mrs Sturgeon should have known that by invoking a Scottish nationalist call to arms to inflict such a humiliating defeat on Labour in Scotland, it would damage Labour elsewhere, invoking nationalism elsewhere.

In particular her continual statement that under NO circumstances the SNP could work with a legitimate largest party Conservatives, which clearly was her democratic right, but hardly fair or 'British'.

England saw a threat on the prospects that a 1970's early 1980's SNP throwback, insisting we followed the 'spend, spend, spend' mistakes of the 2000's - would block every Conservative policy rather than look at the merits of those policies for the national good - producing a 'lame duck' parliament for 5-years at best.

Not helped if they heard, Miliband in the event of a larger party Conservatives, had legal eagles going over the constitution to work out how to EJECT Cameron and install himself as P.M. based on that anti Conservative SNP promise.

Adding a constitutional mess, to the ones they left in 2010, and showing a power at any cost, 'grubby' side.

Labour paid for that and a bland, badly thought out, populist, soundbite of a manifesto insisting it covered all - while uttering class/wealth division in every speech - for a 'better Britain', and many people would have seen through that.

I disagree with UKIP's policies, but I do believe in democracy.

I don't think anyone can look at overall popular vote, and agree that UKIP should have 1 seat and SNP 56 on that basis. Any child could look at that and see it's not "fair".

'Did you not vote Conservative Claig? '

No I used to be conservative, but now I am UKIP.

Yes, SNP voters must be very proud, they have achieved a historic miracle and they deserve and must be heard. As Alex Salmond said the Scottish Lion has roared and it cannot be ignored.

Yes, the vilification of conservative voters by some left wing voters is bad. They think they have the moral high ground and that anyone who votes conservatives wants to see people queueing up at foodbanks etc.

Did you not vote Conservative Claig?

How lovely and civilized of you to congratulate the winners with such good grace and recognise the achievement of the SNP even though you personally are disappointed in the outcome.

Some posters on MN could really do with taking a leaf out of your book, I've seen some disgusting, spiteful, abusive comments from Labour voters aimed at Tory voters this morning and it makes me sick.

The reason so many people won't even discuss politics or say out loud who they intend to vote for is because of people like this, the bullies and the drama llamas with their histrionic invective, so they smugly start to believe that because they are all shouting the loudest and no-one is standing up to them that they must be in the majority…..until the votes are counted and they realise just how many people disagreed with them all along but are too intimidated to say so. It's wiped a few smug smiles off a few faces this morning but I doubt they'll learn anything from it.

'However we do need to look at electoral reform'

Absolutely. I fear they won't allow us to have it though. Very sad. Millions voted with no real representation.

I agree Claig

We live in a democracy and this is what the people have voted for, even if it was not my personal choice.

However we do need to look at electoral reform, Conservatives look to control the government with only 35% of the popular vote

claig · 08/05/2015 06:59

Disappointing for the rest of us. Hopefully Cameron will rise to the challenge and realise how divided the country is and make changes that can bring everyone together again.
