Congratulations to Tory and SNP voters

Brilliant result for SNP voters. Amazing. Most significant change in British electoral history ever. Truly historic.

Very good results for Conservative voters.

Farage cited the SNP fears and I can't disagree with him.

If Sturgeon had not said she could NEVER work with the Conservatives prior to the election, and kept her gob shut until AFTER, there could have been a very different result for Labour and UKIP. IMO.

Some Tory non-entity has beaten Britain's highest approval rating politician. Life is not always fair. We have to take the rough with the smooth, and by God this is rough!

They are laughing now in their metropolitan mansions, but we'll be back one day.

The Tories didn't want it and the Establishment LibDems even now are not demanding it. I think they offered us a crap AV solution deliberately hoping that it would fail and then they said "oh well, you had you chance, now back to Establishment business as usual".

Lib Dems sold themselves to the Cons in the pursuit of it. There's a lesson there.

Yes and lots of people agree with you and so do the Establishment which is why they will do their best to stop it. But at the end of the day, democracy demands that people's votes and preferences get representation.

Harriet Harman was on the BBC the other day saying that FPTP "works better" than PR. Works better for whom? For them, this out of touch metropolitan political elite? It is not about what is best for them, but about what the people want.

Claig ... water under the bridge now, but for UKIP to say their manifesto was 'fully funded' (and the only party to do so) when relying on tens of £billions savings having left the EU, when either a Labour/SNP, or minority Conservative government would have been in power - was either head in the clouds, or up bum, your choice. lol

Would UKIP with ,2,5,7,10, 20 MP's have had parliamentary super powers to 'will' the uk out of the EU?

Just an example of many across the smaller parties, and while we could pick holes in the larger parties manifestos, Stan Lee from Marvel comics fame didn't write theirs.

Anyhoo...moving on.

Until the smaller political parties get REAL within their 'space cadet' policy manifestos, FPTP should stay in place if they are the alternative.

IMO all prospective MP's should have a basic intelligence test, including economics, before being put forward - as I am constantly shocked how ignorant they are e.g. the difference between an annual budget deficit and (accumulative) national debt.

I mean believe it or not, I'm no Labour supporter, but for Labour's seasoned Douglas Alexander(?) to be replaced by an SNP 20-year old, who only seems to be able to regurgitate the SNP party line on 'austerity' - however democratic or nice the candidate is, it seems perverse - as the last thing we need is to DRAIN Westminster of little grey cells.

Oh after every election these debates happen. No system is perfect. We could have gone to more proportional rep but we didn't. That's going to be the last chance we get for electoral reform for a while and rightly so - I wouldn't want to see UKIP getting more MPs (sorry Claig!)

Um maybe, but I don't think there is an appetite for it.

You could say, pursuit of referendum on electoral reform was what led to poor Lib-Dems downfall. I can't see anyone seriously proposing it for the next few years.

I predicted a Cons win (preens) motivated by fear of UKIP and fear of SNP/LAB.

Why don't Cons have a referendum on taking England out of the Union? Then everyone will be happy.

Thats not democracy, thats ludicrous.

The voting system is an arse.

I do not support UKIP but 3.5 million voices is a lot of voices

Mark Reckless has lost in Rochester. If Farage loses then UKIP may not survive. The people who vote UKIP will still feel the same but they will have no real home and may have to return to either Conservative or Labour.

Rumours are that Ed Balls may have lost.
