The wet Dominic Grieve out.
The wet Damien Green out.
The no common sense Willetts out.
The wet Ken Clarke quits.
The useless Alan Duncan out.

Also, Greg Barker, David Jones, Nick Hurd all out.

Rumours about some Very Big Changes.

Who will be in?

'She is meant to be 'Minister for Faith and Communities' - a meaningless job without any real responsibilities as far as I can tell.'

But "communities" and "charidees" and "social enterprises" and "Big Society" seem to be what the modernisers care about most.

'He is sacking many useless people who need to be sacked, and I give him credit for that. It would be even better if he sacked useless women as well as useless men.'

His problem is that then there would be no one left but Humphrey the Cat and Gove, and while they would make a great team, they can't be expected to sort everything out.

claig · 14/07/2014 23:05

'Communities Secretary Eric Pickles is expected to hang on to his Cabinet seat, largely thanks to his appeal as a bluff Northerner.'

Thank God for that. He is the only half Tory left among the modernisers. Although having said that, someone will probably correct me and tell me he wrote the Modernisers' Manual.

We'll have to agree to disagree longfingernails

And, if I were you I'd cross your longfingernails that you're never in need of a decent lawyer in the future Smile

ChillieJeanie · 14/07/2014 23:04

She's Minister of State for Faith and Communities, in the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Warsi doesn't actually have a portfolio does she? I mean what power does she actually have?

claig · 14/07/2014 22:59

'I really wish Cameron had the guts to sack Baroness Warsi'

He is sacking men, not women. He is under the delusion that that will help his image with voters. Clutching at straws comes to mind.

longfingernails · 14/07/2014 22:58

jonicomelately I think his views on scrapping the ECHR and cutting legal aid are fantastic.

I agree though that restricting access to books seems counterproductive and I hope he reconsiders; I can't really see the point. I would certainly restrict access to TVs, radios, etc. but not books.

I really wish Cameron had the guts to sack Baroness Warsi. She's useless. Sadly I fear she will linger on.

He wants to dismantle the justice system. He also upset a lot of people when he proposed measures to stop prisoners having access to reading books. I think he's absolutely atrocious.

ChillieJeanie · 14/07/2014 22:53

I remember hearing Fox warning about the military expansion under Putin at party conference years ago. I can't remember what year, Blair may still have been PM.

longfingernails · 14/07/2014 22:53

I don't think Liam Fox should return as Defence Secretary. I don't think he was particularly great in the defence role (Hammond was far better).

OP posts:
claig · 14/07/2014 22:50

I can't see Hague leaving politics to campaign on issues like Gordon Brown etc. Strange.

claig · 14/07/2014 22:49

Good call on Fox for defence. He is a right hawk. Expect lots of anti-Putin type stuff. Great for foreign relations.

claig · 14/07/2014 22:48

Hammond has got it. Newsnight said so.

ChillieJeanie · 14/07/2014 22:47

If Hammond does get the Foreign Office, what's the likelihood that Fox will get Defence back? It's certainly his area of special interest and he was good.

claig · 14/07/2014 22:46

On Newsnight now, Isabel Hardman said that some eurosceptic Toris felt that Hague may have gone "native" at the Foreign Office, coming out with stuff like "use Eeurope to tackle climate change".

Climate change! I ask you! Gone native! What happened to good old-fashioned real Conservatives? - oh, they're all in UKIP.

SittingNextToSanta · 14/07/2014 22:44

I would like to see May stay as Home Secretary, especially now.

There needs to be a cull of a certain type of Male.

ChillieJeanie · 14/07/2014 22:43

Tweet from Hague: I will take forward the UK campaign to end sexual violence in conflict as the PM's Special Representative

Good man. So the conference the other week was a forerunner of what is to come.

ChillieJeanie · 14/07/2014 22:41

May has certainly been a cracking Home Sec so far and I hope she stays. I met her once, years ago. Very impressive woman.

MinutesOfMeetings · 14/07/2014 22:40

It makes me laugh that the news keeps saying its the cull of the white male, how could it be the cull of anything else given the cabinet was 90 per cent white male?

longfingernails · 14/07/2014 22:40

jonicomelately Why? Chris Grayling seems like he is doing OK. He is not a wet, unlike his appalling predecessor Crispin Blunt.

OP posts:
longfingernails · 14/07/2014 22:38

There are lots of ministerial and Cabinet vacancies, and even quite a few safe Tory seats, which are now up for grabs.

OP posts:
jonicomelately · 14/07/2014 22:38

Very interesting. Just watching Newsnight now. I bet Hague has a brilliant job lined up.
I hope they get rid of Chris Grayling.
