Ukip 'Most Favourably Regarded Party'

I would love to know why my in laws voted ukip, I may get DH to ask.

In laws no as we don't discuss politics, my husband told me it was a protest vote, and my parents because they really had their trust in the Tories damaged after the last general election, and think that something drastic needs to happen for a shake up.

I will state unequivocally that none are racist, disablist, sexist, or any of the other ists that ukip supporters are often called. All are well educated and the older generation are very well off.

In fact, all of them lived abroad in countries where there are no benefits, and you had to pay your own way to be allowed (temporary) entry. They have a very specific approach to immigration and benefits along the lines of Australia or New Zealand.

My parents have been staunchly conservative for years.
My in laws, (Scottish) labour for just as long.
My husband and bil, the Green Party as a protest vote for 2 elections now.

All have voted ukip for this election.

No, they'll try to make UKIP out as racist as people are less likely to vote for a party if they mistakenly believe it to be racist

The only way to get OUT of the EU is via UKIP. The Tories want us to stay in. Their negotiations with the EU will achieve nothing. The Tories won't be able to hold a referendum anyway as they will not have an overall majority at the next election.

So they'll carry on kicking the can down the road and trying to shut down all debate on Europe by calling UKIP racist

Agree Wet August. I am happy that the BNP have gone. EU is a disaster,no one voted for the unwanted federal gravy train it has become.

I've only seen a bit. It seems the anti EU parties are winning. Will we end up with a European parliament full of anti Europe people. It's mad. I wonder why France has moved to the far right.

So far, in Denmark, France, Greece and the UK the anti european, anti immigration parties are soaring ahead. Can we dismiss all these voters as 'racist and thick' are are we ready to face up to the fact that there are problems that are being brushed under the carpet and the electorate have had enough?

iron exactly. Labour has a track record to be judged on- good and bad.
UKIP can and do promise the earth. 'New' parties always do well.

Somebody on TV this morning (think it might have been Theresa May) said we will control immigration as far as we are able. That's the point they have lost control because of the open borders with the EU countries.

But the truth is that there a lot of people saying that the main 3 parties have to change. (or at least listen)

This isn't an argument for voting UKIP, any more than it it's an argument for bringing in poisonous snakes in to your home to stop robbers robbing your house.

Nobody, neither the left nor centrer-right, dispute that the political system is shambolic and that none of the three main parties represent the interests of the public.

Voting for UKIP is not a protest vote. You can't possibly be any more pro-establishment than voting for a fascist party.

I am starting to get a little bit fed up of the ukippers being described in a patronising way - i don't think they know any less than the majority of the averagely media informed electorate.

That's not what the UKIP spokeswoman said. She said that UKIP has difficulty appealing to the educated, cultured, and young.
