Ukip 'Most Favourably Regarded Party'

Is there a quiet revolution going on despite the insults aimed at UKIP and their voters by some people in other parties who refer to good people as nutters, fruitcakes and racists?

How has this happened, how has UKIP become so popular despite the wishes of the great and the good and the TV propaganda of the paid-for media puppets?

I am bafffled and Confused

Can't be worse than what we have now? Really? Could be a whole lot worse actually.

UKIP come across as the pub bores, spouting the same ill-thought out rubbish that anybody's drunk uncle could at Christmas.

Suppose they gain this victory over the "green crap" and incandescent bulbs come back. We only just have enough power now, what with every appliance in the land being on standby all the time rather than properly switched off. We need more power generated. It takes 20 years to build a new power station. We would have 20 years of uncertain power supply and potential cuts.

UKIP are not a government party. They are populist loud mouths in the lucky position of being able to sit carping from the sidelines. They are cashing in on the nostalgia for the supposed "good old times" that prevails at the moment. We would all be in deep shit if they got in.

claig · 19/01/2014 02:38

Either way, it can't be worse than what we have got now. If UKIP say they will "cut the green crap", I think we may see a landslide.

Who knows, we may even get our bins back and our weekly collections. The public will think they have died and gone to heaven.
Game over. Angels 1, Brussels bin bureaucrats 0.

It may even go as far as UKIP deputy leader, Paul Nuttall, saying we want our old safe lightbulbs back - the ones without the mercury in them. This will be like a red rag to a bull for the EU Brussels elite who will get onto the blower to the media moguls and tell them to sort it out. This will of course fail, and the EU bureaucrats may then make the mistake of fining the UK. This will enrage the nutters, fruitcakes and loons and only drive more of them to vote for UKIP.
Game over. People 1, Brussels bureaucrats 0.

They're the slightly scrubbed up face of the BNP.

If they get in we are all in deep trouble.

claig · 19/01/2014 02:13

And of course, there will be no more "green crap".

UKIP is going to win the Euro elections and cause an earthquake. The puppets will have palpitations and will have to start listening to the public, and Tory MPs will start panicking about holding their seats and some Daily Mail journalists will start to say that the Tories have to accept the will of the people and do a deal with UKIP. It then all depends on what Dacre decides to say. if he says deal, then it is game over.

The modernisers will have a meltdown, the puppets will have palpitations and the progressives will say "oh my God, we're sunk, our goose is cooked".

Lies and spin of the puppets will be torn up by UKIP candidates on national TV and the Daily Mail will report favorably on what is happening and that will spell game over, people 1, puppets 0.

Puppets will have palpitations, modernisers will have meltdowns and the Guardian will have gut-wrenching groans. Game over, people in, puppets out.

The Consevatives in 1979 took over a broken country and in 1997 left the fastest growing economy in Europe, having seen around 26 consecutive quarters of GDP growth.

In 2010 they were handed ANOTHER broken economy, not the one they handed over, the worse structurally and in terms of debt since the 1930’s recession, took tough decisions and AGAIN it is the fastest growing economy in Europe.

And Ukip thinks that people are “tired” of that and want Ukip ‘to have a go’, who don’t have the talent to form a forum, never mind a cabinet?

All Ukip will do is let Labour back in and there will not be a EU referendum, FACT.

Ukip says they will bring us out of the EU, but how, MEP’s can’t change UK Lisbon Treaty law – they are telling lies to the people, worse than any main party.

So how is Ukip going to change UK law, to guarantee the Uk comes out of the EU????

claig · 19/01/2014 01:47

TorrentialLorraine, I think you are right. Lots of people are unaware of what a huge shift in public sentiment is occurring. The disillusionment with the establishment parties is huge. People want hope, change, something new not the same old, same old "green crap" and all the rest of the crap.

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight · 19/01/2014 01:42

After the Tories I don't think I could cope with five years of Tory/UKIP or Labour/UKIP .. Even though there's been a 'no deal with either party' line from UKIP, they will do the same as lib dems.. Sell their soul for even a tiny taste of power.

IMO parties are defunct and we should elect individuals for each position of power who has the background and knows what they're doing, not someone who failed their maths exam and happened to be in the winning party so got handed control of the economy.
If they're shit at their job they can be voted out or sacked, saves waiting five years to get rid by which time the country could be on its knees.

But that's just me and I'm batty lol

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight · 19/01/2014 01:35

It's because they're seen as locals and friends, rather than .. Argh my addled brain.. People you don't feel able to connect on that level with, for want of a better word.
That's what I think anyway, fwiw.
I won't vote UKIP but I can see that them getting involved on a local level with things that other mps and councillors turn their noses up at, is gaining them popularity.
However the flip side is that they can afford to do this, if by some miracle they ended up actually elected, they'd end up the same as main three, 'can't afford to do this, let's cut that' and popularity would slide.
They do pick up on things though and run with them. I've mentioned a few things to our local UKIP member at the same time as our labour mp, a week later the UKIP guy had leaflets through doors (they are good at promoting themselves, must cost a bloody bomb all this leafleting) mentioning the issue I raised albeit fucking claiming it as his own idea the wanker but I can't dispute they get in there with the locals and address local issues, actually travelling to homes or yakking on Facebook rather than saying 'attend my surgery at so and so' like the local mp does, well not all people can get to those surgeries, and mps pick and choose what they decide to raise/run with, especially if in the party that's running the local authority.
People don't want to hear 'money, regulations, blah blah' they want to hear 'right, let's see what I can do to help you' and that's what UKIP gives them even if it is an empty promise.
They're good salesmen I'll give them that.
But my vote is going to a right wing or far right party over my still twitching corpse. I've had enough of benefit bashing parties setting the low paid against the unemployed, bashing of single parents, ukips stance on immigration issues also goes against mine so though I understand their rise in popularity, I am not a fan.

Isitmebut · 19/01/2014 01:34

It worked for the Lib Dems in 2010 - DIDN'T THEY SAY THEY WERE 'DIFFERENT' TO THE OTHER TWO PARTYS????

How did that 'claim' work out in most peoples eyes?

Governing is different, you have to have the economy and social problems handed to you, they don't default to the wishes of the new administration - Ukip could not run bath water, never mind a country.

The fact you say people don't care about Ukips polices, says what about the people you are looking to attract?

I see your party membership went up by 66% and the BNP's fell 68%, a coincidence, no doubt?

'People are so sick of the main three'

Yes that is what is happening big time. The Daily Mail runs hit pieces on UKIP in order to help their Tory chums and the comments section of the articles are full of people saying they will vote UKIP. It's amazing.

OP posts:
Takingbackmonday · 19/01/2014 01:11

LEM - "one of their MPs" UKIP doesn't have any. It was a Cllr.

I voted UKIP for their support of grammar schools, flat rate tax, energy policy etc. A few nuts do not make party policy

claig · 19/01/2014 01:10

Very good points ThingsThatGo. I didn't realise the importance of the local issues campaigning. Their appeal is that they are ordinary people, warts and all, who care about the things that locals care about unlike the Oxford PPEs and career spinners and politicians of the think tank influenced puppets.

OP posts:
ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight · 19/01/2014 01:05

I've seen drafts of updated policy
The family one isn't too bad, no doubt unworkable in its current form without a shit heap of changes
Disability policy is being drafted at the moment I've heard, it may have been completed, it's been a few months since I last spoke to the person concerned.
They've realised they need to get policies in place after being criticised for not having any.

Still think bawbag accurately describes Farage though.

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight · 19/01/2014 01:01

It's because they sit in pubs befriending all the old guard Tory die hards with tales how how they'll out Tory the Tories, yet manage to campaign locally, the friends they make in the pubs alert them to local issues, they go all out to get them dealt with, or to have a UKIP representative at any meeting to do with said problem, basically they have many fingers in many pies and manage to dodge questions about their actual policies.
They appeal to the 'working bigot man who thinks his taxes get squandered on benefits, he will soon be out of a job because of the 'immigrants'

Ect ect

So UKIP are supposed to come in and fix everything theoretically
I've seen them on Facebook, you get local pages, they comment with the crowd on every issue, have UKIP in their user names on fb and twitter.
So they're seen and heard.
I think that about covers it.
People are so sick of the main three, every now and again they protest vote and UKIP is hoping to grab the protest voters.

claig · 19/01/2014 01:00

Good points Isitmebut, UKIP have adapted and changed and listened to the public mood.

But the public doesn't even know what most of their policies are and it doesn't really care as long as they are different from the policies of the puppets.

No wonder Ukip are ‘more popular’ than the established parties; they have thrown away their 2010 general election manifesto and are TELLING THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR – pretending they are now ‘touchy feelie’ moderate.

So quite why Labour or Lib Dem voters would ‘like’ Ukip, amazes me.

Take the High Speed Train 2 project, Ukip is totally against it linking the large northern cities to London, as we cannot afford it, but below was their 2010 train policy – maybe they are confident of the North of England vote, so NOW aiming for the rural areas affected by HR2.
• “Ensure "comprehensive electrification" of rail lines and introduce three high-speed lines linking London to the Midlands, northern England and Birmingham”

Take taxes, Ukip stood for a FLAT RATE of tax and national insurance of 31p, you imagine if the Tories tried to bring that in, in order ‘to help the rich’.

Take the Public Sector, apart from cutting back their pensions to private sector levels, how about this for reduced numbers.

• “Reduce public sector to 1997 size, diverting two million jobs to manufacturing and industry”

Takes schools, with more grammar schools, this is more along Tory lines

• “Offer all parents school vouchers, useable for state, private or faith schools

If anyone cares, you won’t find it on their website but can see for yourself, via a BBC website, giving the salient features of the 2010 manifesto.

'some members or voters who are nutters, fruitcake and racists '

I think that describes all the political parties doesn't it? The 'gay marriage caused the floods' councillor (he's not an MP) has only recently transferred over to UKIP from the Conservatives.

claig · 19/01/2014 00:41

It's over for the puppets. It's a New Year. Raise a cheer. The times are a changing'. The answer is not blowing in the windmills. The writing's on the wall, the puppets who ignored the people will fall.

OP posts:
claig · 19/01/2014 00:37

We have had reports that Cameron may have had a change of heart as the election approaches and apparently he may have called to 'cut the green crap' in desperation. But it is much more than 'green crap' that needs to be cut if they are to win over the people who have turned to UKIP.

There is so much spin and crap to cut that they'll need scissors in both hands and will need to be cutting day and night to win the people back. And as for One Nation Labour, well I don't think they have enough time to cut the amount of crap that they need to cut.

OP posts:
claig · 19/01/2014 00:28

Yes, we are in Europe, but we have a different history to other European countries.

We see Milliband courting the middle clases and the 'squeezed middle' now near the election just as his predecessor Brown tried to do before his election date. But it won't work because Middle England does not trust Labour who tend to look down on the Daily Mail and its Middle England readers.

We now have a 4th party with substantial support in terms of favourability for the first time in over a century and it is a party that appeals to Middle England. Labour will not easily be able to take those votes.

I think this poll is indicative of the huge changes that are about to come in our country due to the failure of our elites and our puppets.
