I've just done a political 'what party to support' survey and I'm horrified!

44.44% UKIP not at all SUPRISED, 22.22 Conservative, 11.11% for Green, lib & lab.

We don't have A UKIP candidate, (well never have in the past, it's such a safe seat for labour, I think the current MP can stay in bed all day and pass on the duty to the family dog)

locally I have always voted lib dem to avoid voting labour, nationally I've always thought myself as Conservative, but my husband has told me I was more UKIP!

75% Green
25% Labour

I have voted for both in the past, so a fair cop I guess.

50-50 Lib Dem - Tory, which is interesting as my political 'wish' is that the more liberal tories and the more right wing Lib Dems could join together to make a sensible, non poor disadvantaging centre right party!

50-50 Labour-Green quite pleased, or relieved.

42% for the Labour party.

Then equal for Green, Lib Dem, Tory and UKIP.

Nothing for BNP thankfully.

I've lost the link now, but I did it yeasterday and came up with a large majority of UK and an equal spattering of Labour and Lib/Dem.

OH who is a traditional Tory Voter and far to the right of me, came out with an equal UKIP proportion and some Tory. We were both stumped by the welfare policies and chose the "least bad"

We argue for hours about politics so are not as close as the results would suggest, but this is a fascinating tool to make you rethink your entrenched position.

Our constituency is hardcore Labour and more first generation immigrant than not, but the 144 individuals who had done this produced a slight labour majority with everybody else except the greens being pretty much equally split. Very interesting.

There really isn't much difference between UKIP and BNP.

Green Party 100% were my results. I'm not suprised in the least.

Same as me - really interesting as I was seriously thinking about voting Green in the next elections - This has made up my mind

I think it's a revealing survey. It reveals to me that the left/right concept is hopelessly outdated. Parties have individual policies which appeal to voters. That so many people have chosen UKIP policies in some areas shows that many of UKIP's policies appeal to a broad demographic. That doesn't necessarily mean they would choose to vote for UKIP. Many people who like the idea of EU membership would not vote for UKIP. But it does show that the idea that UKIP is "right wing" and therefore its policies must be X, Y and Z is wrong.

What's equally revealing is the prejudice of posters here, who see the world in such primitive black and white terms. In their heads they're "good" and UKIP is "bad". Perhaps a more thorough consideration of some people's political position is in order, rather than a reflexive decision to choose one party because you think that party is "good" and therefore that makes you a "good" person.

FWIW, I ended up with all UKIP except Health and NHS (Lib Dem) and Environment (BNP).

We do have a Green councillor here in Bristol though :)

Interestingly, I live in one of the most labour constituencies in the country. Most labour MPs in this area are labour left and have huge majorities - my constituency is TB's old seat. BUT, the constituency results we fairly evenly spread, with no party registering much more than about 20% of opinion in the poll.

I'm not that shocked that I picked Tory policies tbh. They've often said things that I've agreed with. The problem is that I don't trust them not to implement things in such a way that screws the masses over the top 5% (apologies for double negative!) Actions speak louder than words...

Strangely I am a labour voter but struggled to just pick 4 topics. Live in a strong Tory seat but totally disagree with most of their policies...although they didn't stick to them anyway.
