I am seriously thinking of taking my The View From My Ivory Tower show to Edinburgh. I've put my best material on the disembowelment thread and I'm not sure I could stretch it to a whole show so may need some fellow players but other than that I think it's a goer.

How does one go about doing at show at Edinburgh? I am free in August. I think that's the first requirement so big tick there.

Tewihara- that's spot on - why would anyone be jealous of those with fewer opportunities?? It's bizarre.

If you think someone has it easy then why not trade lifestyles with them. And have a good long hard think about the various barriers to that swap.

Ahem, I'm shuffing into line on here with some left over werthers vodka from Christmas and home cooked brownies in my Lands End padded coat. I though that's what a mumsnet picket line would require.

it's what £300 a year?

so not nothing by any stretch, but a bit less than a pound a day probably isn'g going to help anyone who is really struggling.

Fab if it happens but won't help many really low people- tax on 1.5k at base rate not enough for solvency surely?

I read in the paper today that there is finally starting to be pressure on Osbourne to switch to Plan B as everyone (including the head economist at the IMF is saying the cuts are damaging our economy)

which means that the most likely move he would make is that the tax free threshold might move up to 10k a little sooner.

But that's not going to help anyone earning less than the 8.5kish it's at now.

Time will be when the universal credit comes in and there will be SWATHES of people previously backing the cuts and shrieking about the unfairness of it all - going snooker loppy fucking CRAZY when the pinch starts to impact their own pockets.

Well done BIWI. I've just spotted another apparently by a doctor who's jealous of her nanny. The figures don't add up but there are enough people going eh? That I don't need to wade in too.

Perhaps we need a thread in chat that is an alternative to active convos where we can post links to nice normal threads and the funny ones?

Either that or like last time the Tory voters will start whining that there are homeless peopel in their sightline and if the Government doesn't hurry up and do something Phil Collins will be forced to make a record and that will teach 'em!

It's always been unfair, and it's always been something difficult to deal with, though it is still absolutely bonkers to be jealous of someone who has zero opportunities compared to you.

The added dimension now is that really anyone who hasn't got millions in the bank is utterly fucked if their life goes just a little bit wrong, no matter how hard they've worked.

It's the usual thing, isn't it? I did it, so everyone else can.

I was explaining in simple terms to my dc the other day. Take two babies. One is born to a drug-addicted mother in a B&B, one to Lord Arse in his mansion.

Do they have the same life chances?
Will they have the same inner and outer resources to cope with life?
etc
Is it FAIR?

And that was without knowing what all those 'message deleted by Mumsnet' posts said.

The level of ignorance is one thing but wilful goading and nastiness is horrific.

I'm certainly viewing a few posters through different lenses now.
