This is the 3rd thread in a series.

It is for people who are horrified, frustrated and downright sad at the erosion of human rights with respect to how this country is being run, just now and in the recent past

it is apolitical in nature, but of course due to many recent initiatives by the recent govt, there will be rants against our current "leaders"

please join in

I shall post the link to the old threads, our "Too Many Cuts #Frothers" blog that is attracting a lot of widespread attention and a little bit of what we are about in a moment

Can anyone help me find the thread - the one that explained the new earnings/ hours thresholds for Universal Credit?

I remember working out at the time I'd need to work ten more hours a week to cover what I'd be losing. Didn't know at the time that I'd be losing Maintenance too. Fucking hell.

I'd like to look at the new guidelines again so I can calculate exact figures for a blog post. But I'm too upset and frothing too much to try and think sensibly how to find the thread.

You know what, it is such an important issue, it would be great to have two (or more) viewpoints on this.

Do you have time to write it? If you could, and use some examples like you did on the CSA thread, cause that makes it REAL for people.

We need to scare the shit out of some people to get them to protest against this. And for those not affected, we need to highlight the unfairness, and how much money people will be losing.

Hunty I am frothing more than ever

Under all the plans for universal credit, I personally stand to lose £400 A MONTH even though I'll be working 40 MORE hours a month to meet the new earnings/hours thresholds

I am really quite upset now, not just frothing.

Single parents are going to get HAMMERED whether working or not as it affects those receiving ESA, JSA, Income support AND Tax Credits.

400 a month loss for working more. WELL FUCKING THANK YOU!

Is there time to get this stopped? have the lord approved this fucking unreal baseball bat to beat us with?

That is disgraceful. I will have a hunt through the old thread for that link. Are you going to write a post on it?

Whoever said (I think it was Shirley) that we should ensure that those who write for the blog are personally affected by that issue. Those (like me) who are less affected can write generally frothy stuff.

The message is most powerful with examples of actual lives. I think this is where Labour goes wrong.

Tories (or their press) are always digging out benefit cheats to plaster all over the papers. Labour is not good at putting a human face on the cuts, I think.

Hunty - am really struggling to know what to say here - but I cannot believe that this will be allowed to happen. It is extraordinarily unfair. Have also been reading on the Gingerbread site Hug for you.

Of course I know I should be grateful to have a job, didn't want to sound ungrateful. I know loads of people are out of work and struggling to find anything, including my DH. I just don't think that line should be used as an excuse for eroding working conditions. Anyway, keep up the good work - I will be frothing away at work.

Just checking in on the new thread. Feeling a bit useless at the moment - really want to contribute in a more active way but snowed under at work. Ironically we have so many staff out with stress due to the effects of the cuts or resigning and not being replaced, it means that those of us left are doing several people's work and have very little time or energy for frothing. Which is all very convenient for the people who want us to just shut up, get on with it and stop moaning. If I hear one more person say I should be grateful to have a job....Roll on the end of term.

Font - that was what USED to happen, until a couple of years ago, with Income Support - it's WHY the maintenance disregard was brought in by labour, after much lobbying from PWC groups...

So they are going back to that, but not only that, they will TAKE £55 of UC away - but only pay OUT £48.50 (ish) TO the PWC. So not only do they NOT gain anything - they are ACTIVELY LOSING ££ (not actual figures, too frothed out to go back and look).

The sum total is the Government TOTALLY SCREWING Lone Parents - EVEN THOSE WHO WORK WHO WOULD HAVE GOT TAX CREDITS CURRENTLY.

Hunty, am I reading that wrong, or does that not make CSA payments pointless? Doesn't that give the NRP who doesn't want to pay, the perfect excuse not to bother? Am I being really thick?

And, I'll bet, that being ABLE to have a private agreement, even if you are on means-tested beneifts (as you currently can) will be withdrawn, and it will revert back to how it USED to be, so that if you want to claim UC, you will HAVE to (be forced to, like you used to be with Income Support) use the CSA (or CMEC as it will be). Which would mean that you will be FORCED to pay their fucking daylight robbery from children fees.

I can't find any evidence of it YET - but if I don't come across some sooner or later, I will eat my own shorts. It was the previous Tory government who made it MANDATORY to use the CSA in the past, it was the previous Tory Governmant who tried to charge £44 a year fee for using the CSA in the past (which was abandoned as an abject failure, even by THAT Government). So if this one is bringing back the fees without the MANDATORY use fo the CSA for people getting UC - I'd be bloody amazed!

Some income,
such as maintenance payments from former partners (which are
particularly important for lone parents), currently does not count as
income for the purpose of tax credits._ This income will be considered as_
income under the system of Universal Credit, and therefore will reduce
entitlement pound-for-pound.

So if your Ex-partner pays you £55 a week maintenance now - you get to keep all of it. Even at the worst, you were allowed to keep £10, and then £20 of it. Now you will lose every penny PLUS have to pay the CSA a fee. WTactualF. And obviously, like the old CSA system, if your Ex-P is MEANT to pay £55 a week, but DOESN'T - YOU AS THE PWC WILL LOSE THAT £55 A WEEK PLUS THE CSA FEES.
