I'm not quite a frothing berserker but I am getting rather cross with our government messing with the good stuff.

Just off the top of my head:

  • Student fees
  • Public sector workers terms and conditions (otherwise known as moving the goal posts after the match has started)
  • Women (Report on Fawcett legal challenge result here)
  • Sure Start
  • NHS
  • Erosion of employment rights
  • Removal of EMA
  • Removal of universal child benefit
  • Unfair changes to DLA
  • Unfair changes to ESA assessment

I am getting more and more fed up that these decisions are being made to take away some of the things we should be most proud of and that took years to be achieved.

This thread is a safe haven for some ranting as I know some of us are feeling sick and tired of it all.

I like the idea of it being topical.

So we could have maybe 2 blog posts lined up each week on set topics,
and then one or two people on standby for big policy announcements.

I did the two autumn statement blog posts going by the advance copy that came out beforehand.

Not so sure about Blogger, been a while since I used it, but there should be an option to do an ABOUT US page, where we set out our revolution manifesto

I can't do blogging, I can't really even get my head around twitter but I will do what I can.

My biggest issue is DLA and the changes along with Workfare.

My 14yo is autistic and these bastards are robbing him of a dignified future.

Agree Te. You need a big groundswell but TBH e-petitions are no good for such an undefined "group" of beef that we've got.

It has to be very specific.

Sorry Hully. I did write a mini manifesto about an hour ago. It included provision for those who just want to rant as well as those who want to do stuff.

Perhaps we can use it as a starting point?

WE NEED A TOPIC FOR WEEK 1!!

Realistic options:
a) Public Sector Pension changes
b) TUPE changes
c) start at the top of the list, so student loans.
d) someone volunteers to do their topic first.

Then layout:

  • RL example of how the cut effects individuals.
  • Concise explanation, with links to further explanation of how the cut works and other groups campaiging on the issue
[- What we would like as an alternative option?]
  • List of how you can do something about that issue.
[-- So we can find out the relevent MPs and add link to "contact your MP", the addresses to tweet, email and write to them. Include sample letters if necessary. -- reminder of relevent hashtags and other groups campaigning about the issue.]

Has anyone started a petition on the website - the one were if you get 1000 or more signatures then it forces a parlimentary debate? Can't remember the name of the website

I'd also suggest an emailing campaign - huge numbers saying the same message within a couple of hours, this will bring media attention as long as it's BIG numbers.

Hi,
I was thinking today at work what else we can do and I decided to write to my MP about some of my concerns. I've done it a few times before and he did write back (not with particularly earth shattering responses), I suppose it raises their awareness of the issues and possibly makes them a little concerned for their seats It's worth a go at least.

I am going to send the following via the 'write to them' site. I will also add a 'finally' paragraph about some of my individual concerns:

"Following the Autumn Statement and the union action yesterday, I have a few questions that I would like to ask.

Firstly, it has been estimated that there is, up to, £120 billion in uncollected, avoided and evaded tax. For example, the tax loophole that allows premiership footballers to pay much reduced tax by taking 'loans' from companies set up for this purpose. What is the Government doing to close these tax loopholes, that often favour the rich, to ensure that all pay their taxes fairly? Could you also confirm the Government's official position on MPs who take advantage of these loopholes?

Secondly, as MPs receive a generous public sector pension, could you confirm what changes are being made to these public sector pensions?"
