alouise i completely agree.why are so many absent parents able to not pay for their children.My exh has never paid a penny for his children and because i work the csa werent interested in helping to get any.Even if they were they wouldnt get any cos he only works "on the side" and claims benefits with his dp and their 2 nice shiney new chidren who dont answer back.How marvelous that he can just make some more babies and not pay for them or the ones he already has If i think about it too much i will combust!

How do you decide when to bring it in ? What happens if someone has just fallen pregnant so the child will be born but they will be over the cap ?

What about as I pointed out step families or when new partner has dc ? . Both occurring after a so called cap amnesty is brought in ?

No one has suggested stopping money for children already in existence nor is anyone suggesting abortion or culling.

What we are supporting is a cap on four children. Which to me, seems still rather generous considering the only people most of us seem to know with four or more kids are the poor or the well off. If I had a quid for every one I know that would like more children but can't afford them . I'd be rich!

He jacked his job went on incapacity as was signed of after a while with depression (note incapcity not DLA he got turned down for DLA ). But that's a whole separate story

Dd and ds3 dad officially he is paying for them at rate set by CSa . This is about to be reduced as him and his g/f wife ( not sure if they married ) are expecting so be down to £5 a fornightly between 2 lol that's not even going to cover their packed lunches

And how about the Fathers of these children paying for their upbringing rather than the state. That's a novel idea

No one is suggesting taking anything away from any current children. Just a preventative measure for the future. Employees don't automatically get a pay rise when they produce another child, neither should claimants.

As due to ds3 Sn and by fact I had accident and ended up disabled we don't suffer so many looks or comments as were classed as the deserving poor

I had 2 dc split from their dad then met my xh had 2 more dc he had none and was working full time .

But for lots of reasons we divorced including the fact. Ds3 has Sn . Now that's left me as Sp for 4 on benefits !!ds1abd ds2 dad left the country so no matineance. .

Dd and ds3 dad quit his Jon went on to incapacity so I get £10 a fortnight in total that's it no contact no extra topping up

So maybe they should be the ones to suffer since they was born last or should I rotate which 2 weekly or fortnightly

I hope it's 4 per pair of parents not just the Mother. It might stop some of these sperm donors in their tracks if they thought they would have to support their children.

We are trying to educate to you why it is in fact so difficult for many people to live on benefits, as you obviously have no idea. Please have the decency to try to listen to what people are saying. You might learn something.

(Bear in mind it is 4 journeys for me, and I also have disabilities).

My friend works part time as cabin crew. She's a single parent.
She gets £1200 take home pay.
£650 tax credits.
£250 maintenance from exH.
She has 2 children.

Look at the above figures and tell me what's wrong with it.

I'll give you a clue.... The maintenance.

It is 3 miles for children in Y3 and above, scarlettsmummy. And it is £4 a day for myself, and £3 a day each for the dc. Hence £10 a day. Not rocket science.

Also, it is partly so expensive because the NHS no longer provide piedro shoes for dc with orthotic needs for dc over 5yo - we are told by the orthotist on the phone the order number for DS2's shoes - which cost over £120 a pair...

A £35 pair of Clarks shoes are no good for him, the NHS no longer have the funds for dc that are over 5yo and can walk, they have a long enough list of dc who CAN'T walk that need splints.

i am not getting into a debate of who is poorest.

i don't believe that bus fares for children would be £50 a week unless you had about ten of them, when currently I spend £10 a week on return to travel and that is for an adult fare?? how much are you paying per child for a two mile journey?? that is the distance that legally councils can expect a child to walk?

Because it is over and above his 20% maintenance, which helps to FEED them, he still has to pay his OWN rent - and it sometimes leaves both him and me WITHOUT FOOD in order to buy our dc school shoes. And he DOES work FT.

hunty- and also- why wouldn't your children's father be expected to pay for half their uniform?? he is their dad!

There was a poster here the other day asking for help with how to she and her kids could live on £40 a week.

Erm, I may not have to pay for petrol - but I HAVE to pay £50 a week bus fares to get my dc to school, being just 0.1mile too close to qualify for free transport, despite the fact that DS2 has chronic asthma, hypermobility syndrome and hypotonia. So I still have travel costs. Or do you propose I stop sending my Dc to school? So out of my CTC, I have to pay £50 a week BEFORE I have bought any food, why do you think someone on benefits has no travel costs? What about costs to get to your JCP to sign on? Or travel costs to look for work? Or travel costs to GET to the food shop and get it home? Or does the food magically appear on the table for people on benefits?

And last time I worked - I had a LOT less than £90 left over after paying childcare and rent.
