Parents meet-up at St Pauls/Occupy London?

Hello all - would anyone be interested in meeting up at St Pauls on Wednesday 26th under a parents-for-change sort of banner?

I went to the start of the protest on Sat 15th (with my two kids, 3.5 and 1.5), and was struck by the need for more so-called ordinary people to be there, as otherwise it might get dismissed as just the "usual suspects" (far-left agitators etc). I think just from talking around that a lot of parents think this is important for our kids' future. I would like to take a stand against the growing inequality in this country.

Anyone interested in meeting?

Thanks

When bemybabe tutns up it's time to go out and enjoy the Italian rain.

"Her kind"?

glasnost · 26/10/2011 09:46

The rightwing capitalist propaganda machine as you so succinctly put it rubbishes any movement that threatens their interests. My info on the Occupation movements I've got on the ground. I was in NY for the first week of Occupy Wall St. Go along to see what it's about.

Independent media outlets without economic interests are easy to access.

The only truly unbiased media though is a critical, autonomous mind.

Bossybritches22 · 26/10/2011 09:41

GOHWEE the key phrase for me there is "some businesses" there are always winners & losers in any situation, I'm talking about the losers. When you lot go, those very same small catering outlets will be the losers when tourism dips (hopefully temporarily)

GLASNOST I'm not talking about the daily visiting protestors who obviously can't stay. There are always the back up gang which are very welcome to any protest.

SO you can't put a tent up & be comfortable?? Chain yourselves to railings, sit down on the pavements, make a nuisance of yourselves to the folk you are against that to me is what effective protesting is about!

claig · 26/10/2011 09:41

No, I am not an anti-capitalist. I think Icke is right in that piece i.e. we don't have real capitalism, we have cartel and casino capitalism directed by central committees rather than free and fair open competition.

But I am not against protest. I just hope that the protestors are not fooled by the Central Committee's climate catastrophe cul-de-sac.

bemybebe · 26/10/2011 09:40

Her kind normally stick to Morning Star or Socialist Worker. How is the weather in Italy glasnost?

LemonDifficult · 26/10/2011 09:37

'From above, Lemon'

I think St Paul's may have a counter-claim Hmm

Seriously, what media do you consider unbiased? Where are you getting your information from that allows you to accuse everyone else of being sheeple, fooled by the right-wing capitalist propaganda machine (as opposed to normal people able to weigh up the issues and who happen to come to a different conclusion to you)?

glasnost · 26/10/2011 09:35

claig will you be popping along today? Now that you're an anti capitalist.

claig · 26/10/2011 09:34

'Glasnost, here and on other threads I have seen you trash posters for being fooled by 'propagandistic' media'

I think glasnost may be refering to the Guardian etc. That's why I read the Daily Mail

glasnost · 26/10/2011 09:34

From above, Lemon.

glasnost · 26/10/2011 09:33

Could OP or whoever else is going not update us on the MN group going along? Where's the meeting point, what time etc?

LemonDifficult · 26/10/2011 09:33

'most posters on here know about only through the filter of the propagandistic media'

Glasnost, here and on other threads I have seen you trash posters for being fooled by 'propagandistic' media. I'm interested to know what media sources you get your information from?

claig · 26/10/2011 09:30

The David Icke piece has some very insightful thoughts about the elite's global warming wags and climate change capers

glasnost · 26/10/2011 09:29

Bossy no they're not allowed to camp outside banks etc. They tried to but were blocked and how can you have 200 tents on a pavement? Hardly logistically feasible. They wanted to get closer by camping in Paternoster Sq but were impeded by the corporate interests that own it. Some of course haveto go home as they HAVE KIDS, some are disabled and couldn't physically camp overnight.

If this is the level of "engagement". To me it's trotting out cliche after cliche about a movement which most posters on here know about only through the filter of the propagandistic media. Go and see for yourselves before dismissing it. You owe it to your kids.

GohWee · 26/10/2011 09:24

Bossybritches - a link just for you BBC News Occupy camp is tourist attraction

Bossybritches22 · 26/10/2011 09:17

I'm sorry but whilst I have some sympathy with the basic campaign I can't help agreeing with the own goal school of thought.

Not "allowed" to camp outside banks & financial institutions?

Protestors "going home to rest" insead of camping out 24/7 ???!

Perlease, what sort of wimpy protestors are these?

Greenham Common & a lot of the Suffragettes for just two examples of protesting, protesting & making a damned nuisance of themselves
to the very people they were targeting

The city wankers are laughing up their sleeves at you whilst carrying on the same way they always do.

You can say that access to St Pauls is NOT influenced but I know of several tourist groups this week who have kept away from the whole area to avoid trouble (their perception not mine) that's at least 50 tourists who now won't be spending money in that area, might never come back, & 2 different tour companies who are now struggling to promote London as the wonderful city it is.

The only other people who are inconvenienced are the good folk of St Pauls who have been denied their place of worship & who I'm sure are rueing the day they agree to let you lot in!

LemonDifficult · 26/10/2011 09:08

The aim is to attract the attention and support of the maximum number of people and to encourage their active participation in debate and decison making. There is a general acceptance that this may prove controversial. HTH.

Well, they AREN'T gaining much support by upsetting St Paul's, are they? Not like most people think St Paul's has been a key element of and evil capitalist takeover, is it? There isn't much controversy here - most people think churches are inappropriate targets for this kind of protest. They're right. HTH.

glasnost · 26/10/2011 08:42

bollox that few tents occupied at night

glasnost · 26/10/2011 08:35

meditrina I'd love to know what you do for a living.

The thermal imaging thing hasn't been independently confirmed by anyone let alone Occupy London so stop propagating untruths and if we are to believe the Torygraph at face value I don't. You do. How touching.

Have fun MNters who have the independence of mind and spirit and give a damn about their kids' futures to not be swayed by the media propgandists and their sheeple. Enjoy!!

GohWee · 26/10/2011 08:03

First time I've listened to David Ike but I do think he's spot on with an awful lot of his comments. Apparently he's been spouting forth on this same subject for 20 years. Well worth a listen. I hope he's going to get his word spread amongst the Occupy camps.

meditrina · 26/10/2011 07:52

Glasnost doesn't engage: just throws out comments, and because it's entertaining others keep the thread going. Yesterdays highlights were accusations about St Pauks finances (stopped after St Pauls actual accounts were linked) and the "empty tents" denial - after Occupy London had confirmed it.

I'm rather looking forward to the next installations!

But I remain of the view that a protest which is only harming a Church is not one I want to join.

ElenorRigby · 26/10/2011 07:39

Glasnost I don't think many people have a bloody clue....yet.
The protesters at St Pauls are joining the dots and seeing the bigger picture.
Over in the US after years now of foreclosures, horrendous unemployment etc they really have woken up and are seeing it as it is.
The bubble has been kept afloat here, but once it pops then people will wake the fuck up.

Best of Luck to all protesters!! Wish I could be there :)

crumpet · 26/10/2011 00:09

I've realised what it reminds me of: it's the sort of thing the Young Ones would have appreciated. Neil would have been in his element.

bobthebuddha · 25/10/2011 21:07

No, thanks all the same. Principles are principles, right? I'm sure you'll keep the sheeple entertained though.
