Claig I do respect you as someone who stands up for their beliefs, even though it's not a popular view, I just happen to think you're wrong and the mail is awful . Much better to do that though, than be one of the people who claims to hate it but then posts links to it, it annoys me when I unwittingly click and end up there, at least with you I know it's going to happen!

All areas of the print media are suffering a decline; some are doing better than others in soft form The "traditionally" left-wing press appears to be doing worse. This is probably a reflection of people wanting to get their news in a form that suits their views.

Well this is the Telegraph reporting on its rival, so sounds of axes grinding in the background. Couldn't be bothered to read it all, but it would be a great shame it it were true.

I am very grateful to brilliant journalists like some of the ones on the Guardian, Independent, Herald, etc - and I would hate to see them out of a job.

The Guardian writers hold a range of views, all well-informed and intelligent. The Guardian's website is fantastic too, and Comment is Free gets a lot of opinions.

In all seriousness, I think the end is nigh for our agenda led newspapers of all political persuasions. Younger people now use the internet for news (more up to date than a paper, less tribal) and there is plenty of analysis online as well. And you can also join in the debate - like this. I feel that this demise is probably a move for the better as all of the agenda led newspapers tend to reinforce certain world views (as you can see above) - whereas the truth is usually somewhere in between.
I feel that in order to survive the dailiys will have to find a business model where they are given away for nothing like the Evening Standard is now in London.

Here is an example of a Daily Mail article which you could never read about in the Guardian. It is good to read George Monbiot in the Guardian and Littlejihn in the Mail, and then decide who is closest to the truth. This is the visionary Littlejohn humourously poking fun at teh global warmers and the soon to promoted 'global cooling'. It is an example of why the Daily Mail is one of the world's greatest newspapers, just like the Guardian.
