It is sad that there was only a 50% turn out, I wish the turn out was higher. I think the result partly reflects how badly voters feel let down by Labour and the Lib Dems.

I still can't decide what I think on this. I like Liberal policies generally, but I vote Labour mainly. However Scottish Labour have disgusted me with their campaign. The attitude of being so certain of their strongholds and Ed Milliband (worst ever choice of Labour leader) saying about Scotland being a springboard was utterly stupid and treated us Scots with contempt.
I'm not so sure on independence to be honest, But to the poster on the first page who referenced Brown/Blair because of the nationality within the UK - get a grip. The Prime Minister is Prime Minister for the United Kingdom, not England.

I would however like to see Scottish MP's banned from voting on English only policies as it causes bad feeling.

the tories in westminster are going to have to stop shafting scotland at every opportunity as it would only drive people further towards SNP.
So maybe it will actually help things like oil sector taxation/ RAF bases in North East.

I think Ed is more Old Labour. Not sure if it makes much difference anymore. Just as well it is another 4 years till the next Westminster election. Labour are fucked at the moment.

SNP on 63.....only 2 more to go for a majority....

Perhaps now Labour will actually come up with some ideas rather than the despicable carry on from Iain Grey this time. They really need to do what the SNP do - stop slagging everyone off left, right and centre and get on with things.

All three main parties need to learn that lesson and if they don't then so be it. They've spent the last four years bitching about Salmond and the SNP and treating voters like some bovine herd and thank god people have noticed this time.

I was watching QT last night. Was that Labour guy, Andy Burnham I think his name is, up for the leadership? Good thing he didn't get it if he was as he was so much stronger than wimpy little Milliband (wrong Milliband to start with.) He would have gained lots of support for Labour. Or do we not want someone with a (rather nice) Northern accent leading Labour? (Is it still New Labour, gone back to old Labour or New New Labour?)

Only need a couple more for a majority!

More seats for the SNP!!!

I'm sure the main reason that the SNP have done so well is that there is no corresponding Westminster party that has let its voters down. But I think it was a mistake to punish local councillors for their parties' mistakes in Westminster.

i was a fairly dyed in teh wool labour voter but teh longer i am in scotland the more repulsed i am by the whole negativity of the party. snp are at least looking to the future and not still banging on about thatcher and mining.

Local councillors are very different indeed from career politicians. Usually (I hope) they have been born and brought up in the area and understand local issues. Also, they start off in politics with a genuine desire to make their local area a better place, they work incredibly hard and don't get paid. And they didn't all go to public school. Look how different Tavish Scott is from Nick Clegg, even Annabel Goldie from Cameron. Of course they're different!

Scottish Labour are a different animal....they are the puppies of the dogs at Westminster. They are one in the same. How can they be anything else?

I suppose more intriguing than why people vote Tory is why the Labour vote collapsed in Scotland. I wonder if other people felt like you, Jacaqueen? I almost voted SNP, but just couldn't bring myself to vote for any party with Nationalist in their name. I decided that the Scottish Labour Party was a different animal from the national Labour Party, and had a generally better track record than their Westminster counterparts.

They are IMO a centre left, social democratic party....

Maybe. Would you say the SNP were more left than right-wing?
