Red Ed to get nose op to fix his whiny voice

I do hope it isn't on the NHS. It is exactly the sort of elective surgery which should certainly be private. That said, he is a Labour leader - squandering other people's hard earned tax money without a second thought should come naturally to him.

I don't think it is a Jewish name and in any case it is his actual name. How can calling someone by the name they were christened with be racist...?

Well, surely Gideon is a Jewish name, so by calling him Gideon you're making the point that he's Jewish.

Just looked it up. SpringHeeledjack is right, it was his original first name and he changed it to sound less posh.

'Originally named Gideon Oliver,[2] he changed his name to George when he was 13. In an interview in July 2005, Osborne said: "It was my small act of rebellion. I never liked it. When I finally told my mother she said, 'Nor do I'. So I decided to be George after my grandfather, who was a war hero. Life was easier as a George; it was a straightforward name'

Osbourne apparently changed it from Gideon (his first name) to George (his middle name) when he was a lot younger, i.e before politics - not surprising as it is a daft name.

anna, I think Gideon is one of his middle names. I think its use has become widespread to have a go at him because it sounds posh.

The chronology of how the story changed from the Mirror version is most interesting. His spinners evidently briefed the Mirror that it was for electoral reasons, before they realised the potential pitfalls.

If it really is for a genuinely medical reason, then I wish him well (medically, not politically, of course). I have my suspicions though...

Sleep apnoea can be very very dangerous. He should have it done, and if he can have it done on the NHS then he should!

He is having the op at the end of July, on the NHS, according to The Times this morning.

Apparently it is to correct a twisted septum as he suffers from sleep apnoea (and so is fair enough really).

Probably a wise move politically. His voice does sound a little different and most people take against 'different'.

I think if it's a medical need (adenoids often can be) he should get it done on the NHS, if not go private.

He's not down with the feral yoof on the estate (wouldn't last two minutes if he was, mind).

Lefties hate it if anyone 'judges'.
It throws them into a panic about being found lacking. If we all stay touchy feely and accepting, noone notices how execrable everything is. That's the general gist of things.
