Is it ok for MN to be hosting a webchat with someone branded the above by our PM?

OP posts:
Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:50

Well that's all a load of rubbish. EU has been a force for a good since WW2? Get your facts straight.

Liberal democracies and trade have been keeping the peace, as well as the NATO/Warsaw Pact balance of power during the Cold War. If we went by your bizarre logic, why hasn't Norway invaded Sweden?

Countries do not need the EU to trade with each other, in fact the EU is hindrance in this issue. The EU raises the living standards of the poorer countries in Europe? Well considering Moldova isn't a member, that's also in correct. EU's attempts at Realpolitik could see Moldova massively suffer in fact. Just look at Greece, one of the poorer EU members - decimated by being part of the Euro. The EU applies a one-size-fits-all approach, which doesn't work, thus the Euro and EU are doomed to fail.

Being part of the EU does not increase our bargaining power in the world, in stifles it because we have no voice of our own to look out for our interests in terms of trade. Just check out the Doha Round of the WTO for example, EU is making demands, we're not allowed our say.

EU rules are decimating our financial sector - look at the capital flight from the City. They will head to Singapore, Switzerland, Macau, and other more favourable locations. Why? Because the EU only has room for one financial capital - Frankfurt.
You are making the classic mistake of thinking Europe = EU... it isn't! How do you propose getting closer to Europe? Sticking a motor on the British Isles.

To cap it all off, the EU only came about in 1993.

yogididabooboo · 23/02/2011 19:42

I think it is a very good idea to host a webchat.

There are quite a lot of things that our PM has said that i think is utter bollox.

I want to see what this twat has to say for himself.

newwave · 23/02/2011 19:40

As someone who studies IR, you better have some damn good reasons or they're going to get torn to shreds.

OOHH get you.

Because the EU has been a force for good since WW2.

Because it has helped raise the living standards of the poorer countries in Europe.

Because being part of the EU increases our bargaining power in the world.

Because we now settle our European differences without bombs or bullets.

The UK needs to be closer to Europe not whinging from the sidelines although I will admit the Euro needs reformulating.

Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:32

So Newwave, why is it ridiculous to hate the EU? As someone who studies IR, you better have some damn good reasons or they're going to get torn to shreds.

Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:31

Every political party needs money to function, are you that naive?

Anyway, political proximity to the BNP? Let's actually analyse that:

BNP believe in ethnic nationalism, so they are inherently racist.

UKIP believe in civic nationalism, ie that anyone regardless of race or religion can be British, much like PC/SNP.

BNP are a socialist party which wants protectionism and isolation.

UKIP is economically liberal which wants to trade with the world.

Need I go on?

newwave · 23/02/2011 19:31

Because the ones I have "talked" to on political wedsites have been as I described.

The ridiculous "hatred" of the EU (a very good thing if your not associating with fruitloops) for one thing and the complaints about immigration as if it isnt a two way thing.

glasnost · 23/02/2011 19:27

At least you've admitted you're in the same group as Northern League in European Parliament. How do you justify that by saying it was necessary otherwise the BNP would have got the funding instead? That quite neatly sums up your money grabbing motivation for being there in the first place AND your political proximity to parties like BNP. (Them or us).

I hope alot of MNers will have read that. Thanks so much. I've nothing else to add.

OP posts:
complimentary · 23/02/2011 19:26

Glasnost. I would only have a go at someone when they have ago at me. I would very rarly directly insult anyone. Glasnost I do not have an infantile mind, someitmes you have to use humour otherwise it turns into the mother of all battles and I've seen it here many times. I called her a dickhead in Italian and it was very tongue in cheek. Unlike you calling members of UKIP racist. I would never do that as I do not anyone on here personally, they IMHO have the right to post what they like.

Newwave. You are right for once! Grin

Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:23

Newwave, now explain how being a member if UKIP makes someone xenophobic, racist, or a Little Englander - I honestly don't know a single UKIP member that would fit this description.

Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:22

Perhaps because your remarks are repetitively puerile...

OK, regarding our "allies" in the EuroParl. First of all, they are not really our allies; yes we're in the same group, but it is a very loose structure, and we very rarely vote along the same lines.

I'm not a UKIP employee or politician, so I can be truthful and say that I don't exactly like being associated with all those groups, but put it this way - if we didn't create a group, the BNP would have done so, and they would gained access to a lot of funding if that happened. I'm not trying to justify anything, I am merely giving my personal opinion.

newwave · 23/02/2011 19:19

You still haven't given me any reasons why I am racist, a xenophobe, or a Little Englander

Because your a member/voter of UKIP although I did state:

Put it this way, I dont know that all BNP members are racist but my default position is that any I meet are. By that token my position regarding UKIP is that they are little englander xenophobes, you may indeed be a member/voter with some with connection to reality although they are as rare as hens teeth

glasnost · 23/02/2011 19:18

Why don't you answer my point about your unsavoury allies in the European parliament?? Northern League in primis? They're overtly racist in Italy and have no need to cloak their racism in cuddly terms as you do in blighty. And stop using the word puerile. It's becming repetitive.

OP posts:
Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:16

Glasnost, UKIP is not blaming foreigners, after all, it has been the UK politicians who have signed us up to these things.

Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:15

Yes I do find it bizarre that Sikhs have joined BNP, I was chatting to a Sikh Labour member the other day, and neither of us could really comprehend it.

Of course the bulk of our membership comes from England, that's because England represents the largest part of the UK. We are not little Englanders in the slightest, we still want co-operation and trade with Europe, and with the rest of the world. You still haven't given me any reasons why I am racist, a xenophobe, or a Little Englander.

newwave · 23/02/2011 19:14

It's a sad state of affairs when people are bullied off MN

Like you would let that happen to you, do behave.

glasnost · 23/02/2011 19:14

complimentary it's especially rich you talk about bullies when I've read posts from you recently calling poster dickheads and insinuating they're cows. Which illustrates the fact you UKIP types have quite infantile mindsets. Pot, kettle, black. Just like blaming foreigners for all our ills instead of looking closer to home.

OP posts:
Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:12

To clarify Glasnost, I hate the EU, but I love Europe. Besides, Europe =/= EU. I have visited non-EU European countries as well, such as Albania and Switzerland.

newwave · 23/02/2011 19:12

Put it this way, I dont know that all BNP members are racist but my default position is that any I meet are. By that token my position regarding UKIP is that they are little englander xenophobes, you may indeed be a member/voter with some with connection to reality although they are as rare as hens teeth.

With regard to your Scots, Welsh, Northern Irish, even Cornish ones there are Sikhs in the BNP this does not change the stance of that party.

Evening Comp by the way Wink :o

Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:10

Besides, your comment is racist against English people, by implying that they know nothing of Europe. However, don't think you are truly a racist, merely someone trying to make puerile remarks. I hope I am right in giving you the benefit of the doubt.

glasnost · 23/02/2011 19:10

And the fact you once lived in Germany and know what an umlaut is as mentioned on t'other thread does not a europhile of you make. Don't know who you think you can fool here on MN. We're an astute lot.

OP posts:
complimentary · 23/02/2011 19:10

Newwave. If being a little Englander means that I want Britain to run Britain PLC then lots of people are. I am an Englander I was born in England. There are lots (loads) of different people in UKIP it's pure ignorance to condemn people you have NEVER met.
Would you condemn those nutters in the Labour Party who have broke the country? Many are swivel eyed and nutty on this site and they represent many differnt parties.

Many on her are bitter and twisted, I've seen posters called cxnts for saying they vote UKIP.
It's a sad state of affairs when people are bullied off MN. Sad

Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:09

Again, care to explain how the party is xenophobic or racist?

Also, drop the patronising attitude. I have lived, studied and worked over on the continent, so you can drop all that little Englander nonsense.

glasnost · 23/02/2011 19:07

Kitto or farage's press secretary or spokesperson or whoever you are. Your party is xenopbobic and racist. You can fool the English who know bugger all about European matters and splutter at the thought of johnny foreigners but over here on the continent we know what you get up to in the European parliament and who your unsavoury allies are.

You're on the Brussels gravy train with the rest of the nominally anti Europe parties so are especially hypocritical.

OP posts:
Kitto · 23/02/2011 19:01

Well I don't have swivel eyes or a foaming mouth (although I may do soon, food is now on my mind).

Care to explain how UKIP is full of little Englander xenophobes? We have several members who wouldn't consider themselves English - ie Scots, Welsh, Northern Irish, even Cornish ones.

Would you like to explain HOW I am xenophobic, or will you just act like a rabid attack dog?

newwave · 23/02/2011 18:59

Kitto, Do the swivel eyes and foaming mouth come with a membership of UKIP or do you have to have your own.

UKIP not full of little englander xenophobes! right Hmm and the bears dont shit in the woods.
