Francis Maude, multi-millionaire ex-banker, took thousands of pounds from the public purse when he rented out the Westminster house he owns and bought another one a hundred yards away so that he could claim the mortgage payments on his MPs expenses and get everyone else to buy him another home to add to the four he already had.

That's how much this greedy despicable hypocrite cared about the deficit when he was sucking up public money for himself.
Then is wasn't so much Big Society as Pig Society, with piggy-eyed Francis Maude with his snout in the trough.

How was he punished for his greed? Cameron promoted him.

Right up to their effing necks.

He should be in the nick with every other cheating bastard of whatever party

Every time I look in politics I found refutations of any suggestion that anything this tory government does has anything wrong with it.

Someone who is very supportive of the current government - I suppose there must still be some of them out there, but you would think most would be in work (probably banking) and not have time to sit on this forum.

Unless of course he is being paid for his time here...

.... or Labour MPs Illsley & Chaytor - jailed for 12 months and 18 month for expenses fiddling. You don't suppose other Labour MPs might be 'in it' for anything other than purely altrusitic reasons, do you? And as for the old boys' network - Mandelson was the consummate webmaster!

why are people still surprised the tories are in it for themselves, they don't give a shit about anyone who isn't a millionaire and they just want to keep up the old boys network

all this big society is a load of crap, when people need to work 3 jobs just to keep a roof over their heads the last thing they will think of is volunteering, but DC has never needed to work more than 1 job to keep his family afloat so he won't realise how it feels to work 3 jobs will he

It's the fact that a multi-millionaire should see fit to take advantage of a poorly framed, poorly managed system funded by the taxpayer that is what grates somewhat. It's irrelevant whether it was fraud, it's the fact that a multi-millionaire who doesn't need any help to buy houses still sees it as part of his legitimate financial planning and one of the perks of his job to take full advantage of State handouts. It doesn't really fit very well with the supposed philosophy behind the Big Society message.

If it was fraud he'd have been charged with fraud. If he was asked to pay back money and he's paid it back (I don't know but that seems to have happened in quite a few cases) then he's all square. If he's not been charged with fraud and hasn't been asked to pay anything back either then he was operating within the rules as they were at the time.

As an expenses system it was badly framed, poorly managed and open to abuse. But I think it's rather old news to be raking up now...

As you know Ed (horse face) Miliband and the brother both avoided paying tax on their father's 1.4 million pound home in Primrose Hill. God I hope some Daily Mail readers are giving you some stick on your hols, or are you (wisely) keeping stum?

Some MPs have been tried and convicted already. Others were allowed to pay back the cash. If Maude's case wasn't deemed serious enough to warrant a court-case and if he's made the necessary reparations, I don't think hurling cheap insults is bringing anything useful to the argument.

excactly. don't think you'll get much response to this post simply because there's not alot to add to this. only thing to do now is ACT and that means taking to the streets and protesting.

we don't haveto accept this shit but there comes a point where complaining on MN etc just won't suffice. protests can't be relegated to the students who are then demonised by the media. we ARE all in it together; in this shit together so let's get protesting ffs.
