There's teh Huw Wheldon lecture on science on BBC2 at the moment. A Goldacre clip was on about MMR, and the scientist tells us that Durkin's programme about teh global warming swindle is "total bollocks". I doubt Durkin will get a right of reply.

The BBC should be made into a commercial broadcaster. Government funded tv and radio should be consigned to history

That one man was the Director General of the BBC. He finally admitted what right wing people had been saying for years, and what left wingers like you had consistently denied, just as you now deny there is any political slant in the BBC's reporting.

The left accuse Chairman Mao of bias. They are liars, so their claims of bias are laughable. Even the Director General of the BBC said that in the past the BBC was guilty of massive left-wing bias. He never said anything about right-wing bias.

I think the fact that the BBC is accused of bias by both the left and the right is a sign of it's neutrality.

Both sides are threatened by people who examine facts rather than rhetoric.

Ooh, and if the BBC would only bring itself to 'love the monarchy', we might have had wall-to-wall coverage (on TV and radio) of that recent lovely royal engagement. And the BBC might even be planning to spend many, many hours covering events such as the royal wedding!

And if the BBC would only let itself 'revere the military', we might have daily coverage of what's going on in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Also, if the BBC could 'speak in hushed awe about the majesty of our traditions', it might just have covered events such as what's going on in Parliament. It might cover Prime minister's question time every week, for example (on both TV and radio). It might even present a nightly round-up of 'Today in Parliament' (on Radio 4). And it might report on the many and various trips abroad conducted by both politicos and royals.

As for 'the Beeb trying their best to spoil the England 2018 bid' - no, indeed, Radio 5 Live did not of course spend hours today running interviews with a certain David Beckham talking about that very same bid.

Things have come to a sorry state.

Instisutions - valuable as long as they serve the purpose they were created for. No inherent worth,

Monarchy - The vestigial rump of a discredited political system. Possibly some heritage value.

Military - You don't REVERE the people entrusted to wield lethal force on behalf of the state. You respect them as those prepared to take on the responsibility of a necessary evil and to take the risks it entails.

Countryside - Well yes some of it is quite pretty. But to be honest, we don't really have the biggest or most impressive of anything. We do have a lot of variety though.

Heritage and History - A mix or realpolitic, naked opportunism, idealism and progress. To describe it as glorious is disingenuous at best and a lie at worst. 'Good in parts'.

I think the bbc should be privatised, I don't think a state broadcaster has any place in the modern media and its an unecessary expense

The BBC broadcast a documentrey at 2pm yesterday (or the day before, I forget) about the guys who built the synthesiser used on Stevie Wonders classic albums.
