When will the BBC be held accountable for their lack of patriotism

Why does this far-left propoganda group continually try to do Britain down?

Why can't they have more presenters who think like the majority of Brits - people who believe that Britain is truly great - indeed, the best country in the world.

People who believe in our institutions, who love the monarchy, who revere the military, who speak in hushed awe about the majesty of our traditions. Presenters who are over-awed by the silent beauty of our countryside, and the glory of our heritage and history. Why do they always use their sneering, supercilious, Guardianista attitude - this constant insinuation that Britain should always be taking the blame and apologising. Coincidentally, it seems to stem from the same sort of sneering middle-classery that is prevalent on MN...

The most recent, shameful episode is the Beeb trying their best to spoil the England 2018 bid. Now I have no time at all for football - I can't stand it - but I fully recognise how important it is for our economy, and also for our national psyche.

The sooner the BBC withers and dies the better. Sadly, it has gotten away with a miniscule 16% cut in the TV tax over 6 years. They will continue their ramblings for the foreseeable future.

'So, when you say 'we' you don't actually mean 'all of us living in the country' as you said?'

That's right, only a socialist would think that Carlos Tevez loves England more than Argentina or that Arshavin, who was part of the Russian world cup bid, loves England more than Russia, or that Abramovich loves England more than Russia.

Oblomov · 02/12/2010 21:02

Claig was wrong about us winning the bid , then.
I thought he Panaroma programme was untimely.
I didn't say anything that hadn't been said before. But it was not appropriate timing.

What the real reasons are, that England didn't win the world cup bid, we will never know.

southeastastra · 02/12/2010 21:01

sweep up another generalisation..

but to me the bbc are completely patriotic! to the point of being sychophanic (sp) in the extreme! always been my beef with them

claig · 02/12/2010 20:59

John Redwood is fantastic. Labour knew it and were frightened of him, that's why they nicknamed him "the Vulcan" and their trendy leftie comedians always attacked him. I doubt there will be many jokes made about Alan Johnson, because there is no need to, why bother? he does a good enough job at it himself.

These intelligent liberals, are they the ones who buy the Guardian and eagerly read its editorials, and say "hear hear" to the columns of teh Oxbridge educated class warrior journalists, and then get a shock at election time, when the Guardian tells them to vote for Nick Clegg?

WilfShelf · 02/12/2010 20:55

So, when you say 'we' you don't actually mean 'all of us living in the country' as you said?

claig · 02/12/2010 20:53

No, the English people who live in Spain will still love England more than Spain, because they are English and not Spanish.

LadyBlaBlah · 02/12/2010 20:52

LOL @ John Redwood

Do you seriously rate him?

I just think buffoon. And as it happens I think Alan Johnson is far more intelligent than him. Maggie Vs Gordon? I would say they are fairly equal, although GB is a little aspergers-y, and seemed to show a 'detail and figures' trait and thus may do better on an IQ test.

However, you can't take the findings and necessarily compare individuals. These are group findings and not to say that those who get to the top (for both parties) are thickos. I know you know that though.

WilfShelf · 02/12/2010 20:49

OK, claig, what if we up sticks and change our country? Are we genetically born to change allegiances?

claig · 02/12/2010 20:43

Yes we are genetically born with it. Just as most if uss are genetically born to love and look after our families, we also are born to love and look after our countries, because our countries are extensions of our families.

'Who are liberals being 'used' by?'

If there is a 10+ IQ difference and the liberals are so smart, then they shpuld be able to see who is using them.

I dispute the difference in IQ findings. Do you really think that Gordon Brown was smarter than Margaret Thatcher or that Alan jJohnson is smarter than John Redwood?

There is a clear 10+ point IQ difference, both in the States and UK Claig - are you disputing the findings?

Who are liberals being 'used' by?

Loving the randomness of this thread

WilfShelf · 02/12/2010 20:32

Why is it natural to be patriotic? In what sense? You mean we're born with it, genetically?

Or do you mean 'natural' in the sense of 'normal'?

claig · 02/12/2010 20:28

LadyBlaBlah, the article below flatters the liberals egos and that is what they like to believe, but unfortunately it is wrong. The liberals are not more intelligent. The opposite is true. They are being used.

'Liberals do control the media, or the show business, or the academia, among other institutions, because, apart from a few areas in life (such as business) where countervailing circumstances may prevail, liberals control all institutions. They control the institutions because liberals are on average more intelligent than conservatives and thus they are more likely to attain the highest status in any area of (evolutionarily novel) modern life.'

claig · 02/12/2010 20:23

Yes I added nature, because that is what I think it is all about. It is natural to be patriotic, which is why the majority are. That is what I believe. it is only a minority who are not patriotic.

Yes 'we' means every citizen of the United Kingdom, every man, woman and child.

WilfShelf · 02/12/2010 20:21

I notice you added nature to my list. What do you mean?

So 'we' means, basically, everyone who lives here? Within the geographically defined boundaries? That is what 'our' country is?

pastaplease · 02/12/2010 20:21

Eeeek! Your viewpoint is very odd longfinger, and your use of the 'word' "gotten" is unforgiveable!

Are you secretly and American on a wind-up?

claig · 02/12/2010 20:17

'What is this 'we', claig? What is 'this country'?'

The 'we' is the United Kingdom and it is our country. It was our country that fought against the Nazis along with other countries too.

You may think that right wingers are thick, but I think they are right. I think they understand nature, history, politics and philosophy.

'There is no 'we', there is only the we we decide to be. Which means by default it needs questioning. And there is no 'country', only that which we defend against threat. But a cosmopolitan world view knows it is OK to do this while at the same time accepting change.'

There is a 'we' and it is all of us. Is is all of the people in this country, which also does exist. It is teh rich and the poor, the fatcats and bankers, and the doctors and nurses and the charity workers and the homeless and the drug addicts and the criminals. It is all of us. We are all one community and one society. All of us are included, whether good or evil, whether rich or poor. None of us is above another, and we can't decide who to include and who to exclude from the 'we'. 'We' are all one.
Of course we can aceeot change, that's why we showed Gordon brown the door, and voted the coalition in. 'We' all voted, 'we' are a democracy and 'we' decided enough was enough and wanted change.

SpringHeeledJack · 02/12/2010 20:16

"...the majority of Brits - people who believe that Britain is truly great - indeed, the best country in the world.

hehehehehehehehehehehehhehehehehe

LFN I love you

don't ever change.

Promise?

WilfShelf · 02/12/2010 20:14

Haha, that's a great article LadyB...

We leftie liberals are evolutionarily advanced... Grin

LadyBlaBlah · 02/12/2010 20:13

Please do note the last paragraph Grin

LadyBlaBlah · 02/12/2010 20:12

That was a bit weird.......

did you mean this Wink

edam · 02/12/2010 20:10

weird indeed.

The OP cheerfully thinks the BBC should cover up a multi-million pound fraud. And seems not to have noticed the many programmes which cover the countryside, royal occasions, the military... I wonder has longfingernails ever looked at the TV listings? I'm willing to bet the Beeb features more royalty, more countryside and more military stuff than any other channel.

If the BBC has evidence that FIFA is corrupt, they have a clear legal and moral duty to present that evidence to the public. And if FIFA is corrupt, it's far better for football if it is exposed and the causes addressed. Otherwise we might as well just send cash in brown envelopes next time there's a World Cup bid.

claig · 02/12/2010 20:08

Of course all soldiers are not right wing. Tony Benn was an RAF polot in WWII. Of course left wing people are patriotic also. I said that it is natural for the majority to be patriotic and that is true of both left and right. However, it is evident that those few people who are not patriotic mainly have left wing views as opposed to right wing views.

Some posters have said it is sick to love one's country. I am not saying that you said that, LadyBlaBkah.
