Cameron and the BBC - the gloves are off

So why does he hate the BBC - is it just because it is public funded or is it because of his dealings with Murdoch?

Whichever, I would imagine this is a real problem with voters

On an aside, I have noticed that they refuse to put anyone of worth on Question Time, and do reluctantly on Newsnight to defend their policies

the problem is the scandalous pay off that someone like Mark Byford gets (plus his gold plated pension of course unlike the rest of us) is so distracting, it gets people's backs up and is frankly disgusting - it's an open goal for the right wing media.

I don't read the Daily Mail except online either. My paper of choice is the Times.

The BBC is fairly neutrel in my opinion and from a news point of view has some of the best presenters on TV eg Jeremy Paxman,Andrew Neil etc

One of the thing that pisses me off most is how much money is being spent moving half the BBC to Salford in the name of being less London centric. I agree that the BBC needs to be much more representative of the country as a whole, but programmes are suffering as a result of this. Oh and BBC sport moving to Salford the year before the Olympics in London is genius!

I also agree the Beeb needs some reorganisation, but I don't believe that's Cameron's real motivation.

I think it's quite telling about whom his loyalties lie with when the first person to visit him after he won the election was Rupert Murdoch.

There's definitely mutual benefits going on there.

I think we really need to look at privatising some of the bbc. BBC1,BBC2,Radio 1,Radio 2 and Radio 4 could all be run commercially without need for subsidy from the tax payer.

er... longfingernails, two strike days, NUJ only which is a very small percent of the BBC, not sure it'll even affect output much apart from the news and even then...

Totally disagree about slashing the BBC budget, though I do agree it's over bloated and far too top heavy. And can any broadcasting corporation ever be totally impartial? It is after all made by people who have opinions and beliefs. Either the news is made by robots or we accept that to get a broad range of opinions you have to watch a broad range of output.

The BBC need to be marginalised, mercilessly mocked, and cut down. A mere 16% cut is disappointing, but at least it's something.

No-one has to buy or watch Murdoch's output if they don't want to. Let people make their own choices about what they want to pay for.

The TV tax is more or less compulsory.

The BBC would need to be pruned even if it were unbiased, but given it's increasingly overt Guardianista slant, it is urgent and imperative.

Yesterday, I watched the far-left witterings of Tim Donovan on BBC London on the housing benefit changes in total shock.

Mind you, it seems that the BBC will be on strike so often in the next few years that viewers switch in droves to other channels anyway.

Yes, he was in PR which makes you wonder why his PR is so dreadful

The press should be having a field day with him, but so far have remained rather loyal
