My best friend at secondary school was abducted and never seen again. She vanished in a spell that cannot have been more than 3 minutes because that it how long it took to walk between our houses. I remember that the parents were (strongly) suspected but nothing was ever proved.

The young couple who purchased the house next door to us had lived there for less than 2 weeks before a removal van arrived to move them out again.

Dave M had worked in the dept for 3+ years but then took a new job in Liverpool. He gave all of us a new but false address and a fictitious phone number.

Whilst camping in France last year we got chatting to an Australian couple, they asked where we were from in the uk, we tell them Norfolk, he replies oh do you know N.. Village which is approx 5 miles from us, he had been working in our village and surrounding area for a few years!

Also on the same holiday I commented on a ladies buggy liners during a conversation onsite, she told me she made them and the name of her company and It turned out I had some of her products and she is a Mn'er!!

So sad TBMOM about the suicide.

I have always had the sleepy flying feeling Ahlavache, when falling asleep in my younger days but now anytime I choose.Weird but fun.

cyteen · 24/05/2010 14:47

Hearing my dad get a phone call, then leave the house, and being instantly drenched in inexplicable panic. Unable to stop pacing round the house till 1am, even though there was no reason to feel that way. I knew something bad was happening to either my mum or my brother. Was told the next morning that mum had died (but not told for another two weeks that she'd committed suicide, even though everyone else knew that...cheers family!)

Watching my brother die, and then sitting in the hospital room watching everything that was him slowly seep out of his face until it was just a wax mask.

Finding out quite by chance that what I thought I knew about my mum's suicide was completely invented (by me), and that no one had bothered to tell me the truth for twenty years.

All a bit grim, sorry.

Oh and also - I love this one! not strange as such, or not for anyone but me anyway - I was in the middle of arranging moving out of the home I shared with my xp, all very messy and sad.
I'd missed a period and did a test even though I was certain it just stress. It was positive, I was on my own in the house and burst into tears and started to hyperventilate so I ran out to the garden to get some air.
I remember standing there looking up at the sky trying to concentrate on my breathing and this thing slowly came into my vision, it got closer and I saw it was a beautiful, perfect white feather! It just slowly drifted down in front of me. I caught it and I remember thinking that it was a sign and that everything would be fine and straight away I just felt calm.
Ds is a goegeous 4yo now. I wish I'd kept the feather.

My mum and I were talking about people with mental illnesses while eating our tea. Suddenly an intruder walked into the room. He was mentally ill.

AhLaVache · 24/05/2010 14:34

Finding out my friend and her younger siblings had died in a house fire.
We were 10, just so difficult to process that kind of thing at that age and the adults around us - myself and other friends - seemed pretty useless about helping us through it.
I had a kind of breakdown, developed lots of ocd type behaviours and would sleep by the front door. Notsure why. so I could get out if needed i suppose.

On a lighter note - I went through a phase in my late teens, early twenties when I would feel like I was flying when I fell asleep!
I used to be able to make myself feel it by concentrating as I was drifting off.
I'd get that sleep paralysis thing where I was aware but couldn't move then I would feel my body lifting off the bed, through the ceiling, the roof and then I'd be able to 'fly' places at will, places I knew from childhood etc.
It all seemed very vivid and was a lot of fun. I used to look forward to it!

Very trippy.

almost everywhere I go I meet someone who has met my father, even in foreign countries - he's not famous at all

A few friends and I briefly rented a house that was about to be gutted and remodeled. In a conversation with the owner she told me that the previous owner had been a very accomplished carpenter.

The kitchen was filled with beautiful custom built cabinetry. Three times I left the kitchen and halfway down the hall heard a thumping noise. Going back to the kitchen I'd find every single cabinet and drawer standing open.

Talked to the owner again who said she planned to remove the kitchen woodwork and install it in her beach house instead of just ripping it out as planned. I stood in the kitchen and told this new plan out loud (and felt like a numpty). The cabinet door thing never happened again.

When I saw The Sixth Sense a few years later I nearly passed out from fright. It really, really scared me as I'd managed to convince myself I'd imagined the whole thing!

I have bumped into people I know on three different holidays abroad.

I was only a few weeks pg with unplanned ds1 and the only people who knew were me and dh. DH and I were putting my nephew (5) to bed and he asked when my baby was coming

I told him that he knew I didn't have a baby, but he adamant and kept asking me. He then told me it was a boy and that we would call it Alfie. The colour then drained from my dh's face as we had talked adbout Alfie as it was a family name.

About 7 months later we did have a boy but we didn't call him Alfie!

A few months later I told my dsis about the conversation and apparantly my nephew has had a few conversations like that with other pg ladies!!

One day at work I heard loads of shouting out on the street. I looked out and saw a man lying on the pavement with blood coming out of a head wound. I phoned an ambulance (first time I'd ever done this) and my boss who was a first aider rushed out to help him. When my boss came back in she said "it looked like a mugging but he'd actually had an epileptic fit and fallen and cracked his head open."

Telling dh about this at home later on, dh started to look at me funny. I said "wassup, dh?". DH had been working at a race course that day (he's a sports journo) and had witnessed a man suddenly collapsing and becoming unrousable. DH had called an ambulance for him on his mobile. The man had had an epileptic fit ...

Driving through the depths of the French Alps when I was younger, I asked my mum what "coincidence" meant. While she was trying to explain we noticed the car behind us was frantically beeping at us.

We pulled over to discover it was our neighbours from home!

That soon answered my question!

DramaInPyjamas · 24/05/2010 13:40

When I was about 14, having a dream where I had been kidnapped..
Days later a man was arrested - he had tried to kidnap a girl, who looked quite similar to me.
It was the man in my dream.

My gran died hours before my DS was born. As a baby he was always looking over my shoulder, giggling and chatting away and pointing to nothing but empty space behind me.
Loads of photos from around that time have that 'round white orb that's meant to be a spirit' thing in them.

ChickensNeedOpposableThumb · 24/05/2010 12:59

The night DS1 was born. DH was on his way to the hospital when a man threw himself in front of his car. DH was brought to the hospital by police relay, and arrived just forty minutes before DS was born. It was the weirdest thing to have just given birth, and then to be told that this awful thing had happened. It still casts a shadow over us now, and probably always will.

I've actually taken my Mum's diaries out of storage to remind myself about the abduction.

My friends parents didn't contact the police until their daughter was 6 hours late arriving home! 10 at night in fact. The question was always what were they doing in those 6 hours because they didn't even ring my Mum and they knew we usually walked home together. This delay could have been crucial - I shall just never know now.

My granny is psychic,

She told everyone my Grandad had broke his leg, thats why he couldn't visit her in hospital (he was really at the pub) but an hour later she got a call - he had broke his leg.

She tole my Grandad she had a dream the fish jumped out of the fishtank and died... seconds later it did!!

And yesterday my mum was sat here and her phone rang, it was my gran asking her if she was having a tattoo done that day,

she was but it was a secret and no-body knew!

Before I got pregnant with my first child my granny told me I was going to have a baby

pissovski · 22/05/2010 17:04

Some of my close friends went travelling a few years back. When in Australia, they got talking to another young couple. It turned out the girl of the couple was from our (collective) hometown, ahd grown up just down the round from friend's auntie and cousins. When they all came home the ended up buying houses in parallel roads (completely independently of each other - and our home town in not that small!)

Someone i worked with was at mine one day when we chatting about me and dh meeting through mutual best friend. explained that we were friends with the whole family now, inc cousins. The cousins have quite distinctive names and she said she had been at uni with someone of that name. Turned out that she had met her on fist day at uni (miles away from both), along with her dad and uncle - our best friend's dad!

Nancy66 · 22/05/2010 16:22

He lost his job - and I know the police were looking at prosecuting him for wasting police time.

DameGladys · 22/05/2010 16:16

I don't believe any of the spooky crap really but...

A few days before I found out I was pregnant with DD, DH had a strong feeling as he was walking along in town that he had a little girl beside him holding his hand. He told me this before I found out.

A few days before I found out I was pregnant a few months ago, we were at an airport getting everything together. We were ready to go to the gate and DH spent a couple of minutes looking round for a third child (that we don't yet have). I thought he'd lost his marbles.

Unfotunately that one turned out to be ectopic, but still.

AgentZigzag · 22/05/2010 16:08

I had a dream that I was laying on my back with a baby laid on my front and I was really interested in getting to know her, a week later I found out I was pregnant with DD1.

I told this to my MIL a couple of years later and she said she'd had a similar dream about DH that she looked down and her stomach was transparent and she could see him moving about.

I had another one when I was pregnant that I was at the top of the stairs and telling my Dad that I didn't have enough formula to feed the baby, and unfortunately I miscarried about a week later.

Then with DD2 (when I knew she was there) I dreamt I was looking at babygrows to buy for her with DD1, luckily all was well this time, and it did put my mind at rest.

Pity I don't dream what the lottery numbers are going to be, I don't mind sharing so if I do I'll let you know

Cogitoergosum · 22/05/2010 16:03

Nancy!

I wonder if he got some kind of kick out of the fantasy? I can't think of another reasonable explanation!

Did he carry on working at the same place?

I love this thread, btw. I like a good mystery

BitOfFunInTheQuattro · 22/05/2010 16:00

Now that is odd, Nancy. Did he get done for wasting police time?

Nancy66 · 22/05/2010 15:34

A male colleague went to the police and claimed that I had raped him. this was about 10 years ago.

he invented the most bizarre and detailed story about me going to his house to borrow his camera - he offered me a cup of tea, I said I needed to use the bathroom, I was gone ages so he came upstairs to see if I was ok - he found me in his bedroom where I over powered him, tied him up and forced him to have sex with me.

He was 6ft 2 and about 15 stone btw - I'm 5ft 5 and 9 stone.

CCTV footage plus the statements of about six witnesses proved I was nowhere near his home when i was supposed to have attacked him.

I hardly knew the guy, didn't work directly with him.

Very odd

BloomingFlowers · 22/05/2010 15:26

I knew my Mum was in bad trouble.

Long story short; I can't stand her. She was/is cruel and nasty (to me alone; not my younger siblings).

They're rich. Swanned off on another holiday. For some reason on the morning they arrived back I 'phoned; wouldn't normally.

She sounded normal; but I couldn't shake a really bad feeling. I 'phoned again about 2 hours later as I was feeling increasingly agitated/disquietened. No answer.

I just knew something.

I phoned the police.

They could see my mother from the porch.

She'd had a massive brain heamorrhage (sp)
