drug dependant baby, advice needed

EarthMotherImNot · 03/03/2010 15:20

I've been asked to foster a baby expected to be suffering drug withdrawal when it is born next week.

It is years since I've cared for one of these and any advice would be most gratefully received.

I remember reading this thread when it happened, I had a baby myself then!

RIP Emin.

LadyPeach · 07/03/2019 18:40

EMIN you are a true angel, and heaven gained another one x

Mrsmummy90 · 25/02/2019 01:15

I've just come across this thread and reading about the baby had me in tears. I had no idea what was to come!

It seemed you were an incredible and selfless woman with so much love to give. You have changed the lives of those children and their families and without you, I'm sure their futures would not have been bright.

Rest in Peace xx

I just found this thread in Classics. I was only browsing MN for light reading to keep me company whilst feeding my little one through the night. I didn’t expect to come across such a big and emotional story.

EMIN - Thank you for all you shared. I needed to read this tonight. I’ve been struggling with exhaustion. Gaining perspective from others is a wonderful thing. You’re an inspiration and I’ll remember you forever ❤️

Rip emin, she was such a beautiful person, I never thought this thread would end like this, it struck my heart.I hope ladybird grows up to know what a amazing mum she was to her.

SimplySteve · 28/01/2019 07:21

I originally read this thread while in hospital a couple of years ago. It was nighttime, an open ward with five other men. No chance of sleeping in that environment. So I found this thread filled with so much love. Obs got checked while I was crying. Got a strange look, then a HCA came and spent an hour with me asking what was up and why wasn't I asleep. That was the first time I opened up to another real life person about my childhood and how being sexually abused had affected me. Thanks to EMIN.

Selfishly, I've often thought since how things would've turned out if I'd had EMIN in my life.

You may be gone EMIN, but you will never be forgotten. Your legacy lives on in all you fostered, and if their children have 1% of your selflessness, empathy, love and compassion they will be amazing people.

However. EarthMotherImNot??? No. No no no no NO. EarthMotherYouMostDefinitelyAre❣️

And now I'm blarting again.

Stephisaur · 11/01/2019 08:00

Just read the whole thread.

I’m so utterly devastated that EMIN lost her fight with cancer. It really does take the best.

Thank you Mumsnet for putting this in classics so that more people can know the good she did whilst she was here.

RIP angel

In floods of tears 😥😥😥 this is the saddest thing.
I never find anuthing sad but this. 💔
Laid next to my lo who is blissfully asleep and reading how EMIN's lo & mine were the same weights and thinking about my lo crawling. 😥😥😥
Rest in eternal peace you amazing, amazing woman.
You have made me even more determined to take up fostering.
Thank you for everything you did for this world.

oakleaffy · 29/04/2018 20:49

NO.......... Flipped to the end of the thread, and just saw that Earth Mother is no more.... Tears afresh, what a wonderfully kind woman, an Earth Angel for sure. Wherever she is, I'm, sure her good energy exists..

oakleaffy · 29/04/2018 20:45

Ok, this thread is ancient, but compassion never fades..

The story of ''Ladybird'' has made me cry too... It is just terrible the damage wrought to innocent babies by mothers who continue to use substances when pregnant..
Earth Mother did such a wonderful job, and the very early care she gave to Ladybird will hopefully have helped ameliorate the physical pain the poor baby suffered from drug withdrawals.
I too have seen women lose child after child, it seems they can't nurture, or think of anything apart from their partners/drugs...and tragically these are so often young women who have had ''mothers'' of a similar feckless type.. and so the cycle continues.
They have umpteen babies removed, yet still get pregnant, unaware of the distress they cause.
Babies who go to loving experienced foster homes are fortunate..there may well be a chance of the slate being wiped clean, of the cycle not repeating itself if these young babies are given stability and security from the very earliest days.
I am no social worker, but surely being removed from a stable loving foster family to adoptive one must on some level be noted by even a very young baby.
Babies are so easily conceived by the feckless it seems, and then there are those with so much love to give who for whatever reason cannot have biological children, it does seem an unfair world sometimes.
A wonderful family near us used to foster, and one lad stayed with them for so long and fitted in so well that they were able to adopt him...and a fine young man he turned out to be.
Fosterers do a very special job, and it is far from easy..hats off to you all.
