A plate has fallen down the back of the loo - how can I get it out?

And not just any plate - this is a plate painted by ME for dd's hair bands! I did it when she was painting a mug for dh- the man was so impressed he put it in the window. [preen]

It's annoying.

Now the cistern of the loo is built into a tongue and groove type wall affair, and can only be accessed from the top. The plate has fallen down, below the cistern, onto the floor below.

I can't reach it, nobody can reach it.

Any ideas?

tie the bobbles to string first

LostProphet · 28/10/2008 20:02

I have 10,000 things I should be doing atm, but nooooooooooooo, I am sat here waiting for a bobble plate to come out from the back of a loo.

MatNanPlus · 28/10/2008 20:01

yes, plate must be IN the bag not ON the bag for a successfully completed mission

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 20:01

Dh has just held me by my shoulders and said in a firm, determined yet kindly way 'I will get this out for you tonight, I promise. I just can't do it now. Okay?'

I in turn nodded like a snivelling 12 y-o. I can't reach it properly is the problem.

Shall report back tomorrow - or later.

Thank you for your patience and concern. Am going to throw down two hair bobbles to keep the plate happy.

A plate too far....

IllegallyBrunette · 28/10/2008 20:00

If it is sitting on the bag then you need something to gently pull the fabric of the bag a bit until the plate slips inside, the hoist bag up.

RustyDaviesBear · 28/10/2008 19:58

Umm - I think we were suggesting you get it in the bag - it's going to be very tricky pulling the bag up without the plate falling off.

I can see it now - it's going to be like one of those disaster movies where they get within inches of rescuing the plate hero's friend & the he falls back into the abyss....

LostProphet · 28/10/2008 19:56

Just the coat hangers - you would need at least 3 hoovers...

TEAM PLATE

I still can't believe I wasted a whole afternoon of my life watching kid in well film

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 28/10/2008 19:55

well....I dont see why you dont just take the loo out now.

I mean, it is clear that no-one has been as yet, considering how long we all sat here, so the loo is obviously surplus to requirements and can come out and you can go buy chamber pots to pee in.

and just think of how much painting time you can have with chamber pots.....

[hgrin[

IllegallyBrunette · 28/10/2008 19:54

For a minute then I actually considered ringing my dad to ask him for advice, but then imagined his face when I tried to explain it all and didn't

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 19:54

THE PLATE IS ON THE BAG PEOPLE.

I got it on the bag.

[punches air]

Now erm, for the bag and plate together. Am unbending wire coat hangers as we speak.

Shall also try and hoover?

I bet in the kid-in-well saga they all huddled before each attempt. We should make a stack of hands and shout "TEAM PLATE" before the next session.

LostProphet · 28/10/2008 19:53

The woman's just a heartless bitch isn't she?

(But then, you blatantly ignored my love of you...)

thornrose · 28/10/2008 19:52

Right, I'm putting this on "watch", I have been on here for hours without food or water or even a change of position! I am literally having to tear myself away.

RustyDaviesBear · 28/10/2008 19:51

It was me that sugested a bag first!

I said a PE bag - or something with a string for easy retrieval

covertmission · 28/10/2008 19:51

you'll retrieve the bag with a hoover no worries.

100x you must hold yourself back with the frenzied attempts or next thing we'll know you will be stuck down behind your loo, and dh will be lowering penguin bars down to you in jute bags.

BennyAndJoon · 28/10/2008 19:49

I would also like to point out that she hasn't tried my elephant idea

LostProphet · 28/10/2008 19:48

I have been more vocal and consistent with idea though

thornrose · 28/10/2008 19:48

Oh apologies littlefish "our" net idea still stands a chance then

WideWebWitch · 28/10/2008 19:46

Do y'know, I opened this, read op and IMMEDIATELY checked OP's profile as I knew there would be a picture of the loo / plate combo, ha ha ha.

Littlefish · 28/10/2008 19:46

Thornrose - my idea was a string bag - not a jute bag! I think that ahundredtimes has used one of those thick bags you can buy from Tescos at the checkout. I could have told her that that would never work . My string bag idea, however, remains untested, and is therefore, still possibly brilliant.

Ahundredtimes - are the handles pointing upwards on your jute bag? Can you now use a wire coat hanger to hook the bag out?

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 28/10/2008 19:45

just a thought is all.

seeing as my idea's of chain saw, lobbing a superglued bit of metal down and then fishing with a magnet, and painting a whole new plate have been ignored.....

((anyway, you need to come and stroke me on my thread screaming about aunty today LP!!!))

MatNanPlus · 28/10/2008 19:44

Tried that Davina said child was vocal in protest!!

LostProphet · 28/10/2008 19:43

Psycho - NEVER!
