A plate has fallen down the back of the loo - how can I get it out?

And not just any plate - this is a plate painted by ME for dd's hair bands! I did it when she was painting a mug for dh- the man was so impressed he put it in the window. [preen]

It's annoying.

Now the cistern of the loo is built into a tongue and groove type wall affair, and can only be accessed from the top. The plate has fallen down, below the cistern, onto the floor below.

I can't reach it, nobody can reach it.

Any ideas?

Littlefish · 28/10/2008 22:22

Thank goodness for that! I've just come back to check in on my way to bed.

Where is the photo though? Your profile is empty . I wanted to see the plate.

I'm off to bed now, so please post a special photo so I can see it in the morning.

I thank you.

ClaireDeLoon · 28/10/2008 22:03

Fantastic news about the plate - I nearly swooned when I read the bit about your DH manfully gripping your shoulders and promising to get the plate.

cheerycherry · 28/10/2008 21:49

Phew...champagne corks popping in the north for you, what a happy happy ending!

Ivegotaheadache · 28/10/2008 21:48

This was hilarious - call the Wonderpets to rescue the booble pate

milliemayhem · 28/10/2008 21:38

Well best of luck for the future 100x. I thank you for giving me the most perfect excuse to not doing a thing tonight other than read this thread, and to all those that made me pee myself laughing at all the ideas. I bid you goodnight and all the best with the future of the plate. Wouldn't it be a shit if you popped it back on shelf and it slipped and smashed on loo seat! An evening in vain.

LostProphet · 28/10/2008 21:34

DH isn't as jubilant as me

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 21:31

I just want to thank you all, for your dedication. It means a lot to know you cared, covert and everyone, your strength in this crisis has meant more to be than I can put into words.

lol Rusty - no she will have to use this plate. I think she might be having subversive thoughts about breaking that plate in the photo tbh.

well I'm spent. I have nothing more, emotionally or physically to give to lost ceramics. I need to have a horlicks.

flippineck · 28/10/2008 21:27

Oops, too slow typing. MillieMayhem - perfect, small children are vote winners.

flippineck · 28/10/2008 21:26

I, am of course, overjoyed that the plate has been saved from the depths, but I am slightly disappointed too - it's been a real rollercoaster ride full of touching moments, heroic moments, comedy moments. Perfect. Has anyone got anything else they can lose in an obscure place?

RustyDaviesBear · 28/10/2008 21:25

Your DD is never going to dare to leave a bobble anywhere but on the plate now is she?

"After what your father and I went through to rescue that plate, you could at least use it"

DANCESwithLordPsGhost · 28/10/2008 21:25

Ahem...

Did you think of using 'how to talk to' on the plate. Also did you tell dh he had the plate retrieving smarts?

milliemayhem · 28/10/2008 21:22

Shall i poke something down behind my fridge? I've got a nice air dry clay dinosaur my DS made at school. I could wake him up and show him what i've done, his added trauma could start a whole new level to the lost ceramic thread...

covertmission · 28/10/2008 21:20

You have a very special DH there 100x. very special. You should probably let him know that his cunning spade-cistern-lean rescue method has made me feel a little bit funny inside. Like when Daniel Craig came out of the sea.

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 21:20

lolol Snigger. Yes, I know. And she's in her nightie and everything saying 'It's 9 o'clock, I should be in bed.'

lolol

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 28/10/2008 21:19

wooohoooo

snigger · 28/10/2008 21:19

100x, I do love that "I'm holding the plate now, but in ten years I'm putting you in a HOME you MENTALIST" look on DD's face

MatNanPlus · 28/10/2008 21:17

Yeah for 100x DH

tho do think a minor rescue of the jute bag is called for given it kept the Booble plate company and in a calm state!!

milliemayhem · 28/10/2008 21:17

I've just taken deepest breath since half 5. I don't know what to do now. I feel a bit lonely Congrats about the booble pate. Any news on the WH smith bag? Please say thats stuck now, please!

snigger · 28/10/2008 21:17

Do you think the nation has ever been so united by crockery before now?

The relief is almost physical

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 21:15

Okay, here is dh's debrief:

'I was trying to bring it up vertically using the spade by scraping it along the side of the cistern. And then suddenly it hit me. I turned the spade over and using the flat blade of the spade lifted it horizontally to a height where if I could press my chest deep into the watery cistern I could lay my fingers on the blessed piece of porcelain.

The jute bag is still down there, and to be honest I don't care about it at all.'

lolol. He's game my dh isn't he?
