A plate has fallen down the back of the loo - how can I get it out?

And not just any plate - this is a plate painted by ME for dd's hair bands! I did it when she was painting a mug for dh- the man was so impressed he put it in the window. [preen]

It's annoying.

Now the cistern of the loo is built into a tongue and groove type wall affair, and can only be accessed from the top. The plate has fallen down, below the cistern, onto the floor below.

I can't reach it, nobody can reach it.

Any ideas?

I love that we're now trying to rescue pate

Is it foie gras, or something?

BennyAndJoon · 28/10/2008 18:35

can you get a couple of poles (bamboo sticks whatever) with parcel tape inbetween - try to get loop of parcel tape underneath plate?

DH has very long arms and I can't remember where you are (suspect darn sarth - which would be no good)

I'd love to have guinea pigs, and sock's chickens. I'd actually let a bird in my house if it could get this plate out. And I don't do birds.

I'm unsure personally about how effective the guinea pigs are going to be. Unless I could lower them on strings - have they got a good grip?

Bugger.

There must be a way. I'm going to inspect behind the sink and see if there's a little door. A helpful, surprising, little door which has just appeared.

Fine.

ignore me.

You plate can stay there forever until it is covered in dust and forgotten

covertmission · 28/10/2008 18:34

does a (wet) flannel weigh more than the dry recumbent plate?

if yes, then I would not use it, although the mini suckers I have are suprisingly powerful so long as they are everso slightly moistened around the rim.

a dry sucker is no use to man nor beast (nor booble pate)

JustKeepScreamingInFear · 28/10/2008 18:33

How big are your children? or the neighbours'?

could you stand on the loo and lower one of the smaller ones down, they could reach in and get the pate?

snigger · 28/10/2008 18:33

We have guinea pigs.

They'd probably like a Saving Bobbles Platter type mission.

mrsmaidamess · 28/10/2008 18:32

I don't think superglue will work unless its spread on quite a large area, and then you run the risk of ruining your booble pate .

I'm still giving it thought....

JustKeepScreamingInFear · 28/10/2008 18:32

OK, different angle, you know the side next to the sink, the right hand side of the loo as you look at it.
Could you get a drill with a large bit and drill through there and attach something to the plate that way?
or even one of those really big drill circle things and make a hole?

mrsmaidamess · 28/10/2008 18:31

I've just had to explain to dh why I'm laughing so much. Guinea pigs with glue soaked sponges...lol

MatNanPlus · 28/10/2008 18:31

LOL

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 18:30

I don't think I have. The only thing I have is a suction thing for hanging flannels on from Argos. It won't be sucky enough, it falls off all the time when a flannel is wet.

Oh bugger.

i want it back.

Perhaps I'll just have to go and buy super glue tomorrow.

pania · 28/10/2008 18:30

When you do get it out can you pleeease post a picture of it?

JustKeepScreamingInFear · 28/10/2008 18:30

oh i seeeeee.

right, so those stickie plunger things? check out the bath toys.

or find the guinea pig : ready to save the day

thesockmonsterofdoom · 28/10/2008 18:29

OG has noone thought f the poor hair boobles?

covertmission · 28/10/2008 18:29

100x what about the mini sucker? Don't you have anything suctioned to a wall atm?

thesockmonsterofdoom · 28/10/2008 18:28

did noone see my offer of chickens?

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 18:28

Oh no screaming - it was on the window sill in the loo, and hair bobbles are supposed to be kept in it.

The man who runs the paint your pottery place put it in HIS windows because I spent money was an inspiration to his other customers.

covertmission - pmsl

thesockmonsterofdoom · 28/10/2008 18:28

you shou, dbhide all giftas down the back of the loo.

JustKeepScreamingInFear · 28/10/2008 18:27

So have you got any of those plastic mini plunger thingies???

covertmission · 28/10/2008 18:27

thinking about the guineapig, they don't splay their legs very well do they, to get a good grip?

no, you need to send the guinea pig up through the floor underneath, with a superglue soaked sponge ontop of its helmet.

hmmmm then how to get the GP with plate attached OUT.

this plan needs more thought.....

thesockmonsterofdoom · 28/10/2008 18:27

if only laughter would warm my hands up.

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 18:27

Bugger.

No super glue. The only thing I can find is some quick dry adhesive which prides itself on on its 'precise application'. I don't think it'll work.

i feel so sorry for this plate. And it was so purittee too.

I did come across some parcel tape in my search for the glue, and wondered if it would work, and was standing on the loo, rolling parcel tape down - it was getting stuck on the sides and not dropping properly - and ds1 came in and said 'is this for dad's birthday?'

lol. What DID he mean?

OP posts:
JustKeepScreamingInFear · 28/10/2008 18:26

booble pate - sorry!!!

not so ridiculous a suggestion : here
