A plate has fallen down the back of the loo - how can I get it out?

And not just any plate - this is a plate painted by ME for dd's hair bands! I did it when she was painting a mug for dh- the man was so impressed he put it in the window. [preen]

It's annoying.

Now the cistern of the loo is built into a tongue and groove type wall affair, and can only be accessed from the top. The plate has fallen down, below the cistern, onto the floor below.

I can't reach it, nobody can reach it.

Any ideas?

the fish may work, try octopus they have suckers.

mrsmaidamess · 28/10/2008 18:44

I have some broth on hand for lostprophet. and some booble pate.

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 18:44

Report:

dd too big. I tried lowering her in down the side of the cistern, but she got stuck and extremely cross.

'who cares about the stupid plate' she said.

It's a long way down in is the problem. I will try the duct tape and coat hanger idea, but the coat hanger will have to huge or broken because I can't reach it with a normal one. But I am short.

Butterflies. Not butterlies. Sorry.

Thornrose I pictured your idea with a couple of slices of fish. I was thinking wtf? That wouldn't work at all.

covertmission · 28/10/2008 18:43

Lost Prophet is about to have a stroke. She is the kid-stuck-in-well rescuer that needs leading away from the scene wrapped in a bacofoil poncho.

BennyAndJoon · 28/10/2008 18:42

Put a very big baloon underneath with a tube attached. Blow up baloon

It would be like the raising of the titanic

thornrose · 28/10/2008 18:41

How about a couple of fish slices attached to broom handles, lower them down, slide one under each side of plate and then bring it up slowly.

LostProphet · 28/10/2008 18:41

Wine will do

LostProphet · 28/10/2008 18:41

"Playing Elephant Catching Butterlies with other hand"

What?!

BroccoliSpears · 28/10/2008 18:40

DUCT TAPE. and an unbent coat hanger. Delicately thread a loooong piece of duct tape doen and then slidthe coat haneger down too and use the coat hanger to press the sticky bit of the ductt tape on tothe plate.

Scuse typing. Playing Elephant Catching Butterlies with other hand.

snigger · 28/10/2008 18:40

I bet your DH is going to walk in shortly, sigh, and pull some cistern-based emergency widget, and the plate'll come rolling out.... life's like that.

LostProphet · 28/10/2008 18:39

HAMMOCK STYLE

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 28/10/2008 18:39

ah, so in that case, YOU can paint a whole new masterpiece, and this current plate will become the holy grail of bobble plates that can be spoken about with awe for generations to come.......

covertmission · 28/10/2008 18:39

Sod mini suckers, what about a common old normal loo plunger, that you could extend with a broom handle?

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 18:39

Sorry Lost Prophet, sorry, what did you say?

Am running back and forth and not reading properly.

I could try lowering dd, she is skinny, thing is the cistern is v. much in the way. Hang on, will try.

Is it a nice plate ?

mrsmaidamess · 28/10/2008 18:38

Just think in 100 years time, when watching The Antiques Roadshow someone will carefully unwrap their newspaper package to reveal the mythical hairbooblepate plate, found shoved down the back of the lavvy in 2008..

snigger · 28/10/2008 18:38

Or not

snigger · 28/10/2008 18:37

Do you know what, saw a hole at the bottom, round the corner, and prop the plate up over the hole post rescue.

ahundredtimes · 28/10/2008 18:37

I painted the plate! Me, me, me, me, me.

Hmm. Maybe that is best, or the thing or material attached to two bamboo poles. Like a hammock.

OP posts:
PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 28/10/2008 18:37

not that I would do that of course.

I would have hammered my way in by now and blamed DH's lack of handy-man skills that did not prevent me from hammering my way in!

PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 28/10/2008 18:36

can you not just get him to paint a whole new plate
