I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch

Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

As our three Siamese are indoor cats, they make do with stealing from us. The biggest theft was an entire 1kg ham left out to rest. Being carried by a 3kg cat.

When I was a teenager, our cats once brought in a live mole, seemingly completely unharmed - I released the little creature outside. After sneakily petting it a little bit - so soft!

The absolute worst though was when one of the cats left a decapitated mouse head in my mum’s handbag.

DecoratingDiva · 15/01/2024 16:26

Friends cat once came home with a partially defrosted chicken.

Oh, poor Ben! He sounds like a character. Very kind of Suzie to share - not sure any of my cats would have.

Sharontheodopolodous · 15/01/2024 16:11

Many moons ago, when I was a baby my parents owned a heinz 57 dog-she was bit of what seemed to be every breed going (suzie)

My grandad owned a jack Russell (tinker)

Anyway,my father would make 3 sandwiches with 3 different fillings, slice them in half (so making 6 smaller sandwiches),he would then go for a wee and come back to 5 sandwiches

This went on for weeks-him convinced my mother or grandad where playing tricks on him

Until he'd had enough-the joke had gone too far,so he made them up as normal and walked off but hid

He saw suzie walk up,lift her paws up,snatch a sandwich and share it with tinker before he came back

Talk about partners in crime!

Susie was a sod for going out to pee, would catch a frog and dump it in the mop bucket

Manys the time someone would go to fill it up and have a sodding frog looking back at them

My dp had a lab called Ben as a child

One day my fil had gone outside to do some gardening and fell over-he couldn't get back up

Now Ben could have somehow alerted someone in the house that something was wrong-a bark at my mil would have done

Instead he cocked his leg on poor fil and ran off

He was found eventually and the poor dog was hit by a car and died a few months later-his story lives on

I had a tiny tuxie female who brought home an enormous, live snake. Thing is, she had to go out into the wilds to find it, bring it home, jump over a wall with it in her teeth, crawl under the gate (ditto) & then deposit in the middle of the back lawn. She was exhausted, poor thing. But proud.

I went out to look at it, but I hadn't got my snake recognition badge so I rang the vet surgery & a receptionist suggested I bring it down for them to identify. As it might have been an adder, I politely declined. When I went back out for another look, it had gone. I phoned again & spoke to a vet this time, as the snake had had a spot of blood near its mouth & I was concerned that it might've bitten the cat. When I said it was no longer there, the vet said, "Oh, it's legged it."😂From my description, he identified it as a grass snake.

The cat was fine & for a while I was a bit watchful when I was in the garden, but the snake had indeed legged it.

My boy cat has brought back a few cooked and raw chicken breasts and we get a few sausages and burgers in the summer that I assume he’s nicked from BBQs

Weirdest was a Dulux tester tube of a very dark green emulsion. It had burst while he was carrying it back so he was covered in it.

Dog has swiped a sandwich from a child in a pushchair. It was the most embarrassing thing she’s ever done. She was on a short lead but the child was holding it out to the side so she just swiped it without breaking stride. I was very apologetic and bought them a replacement sandwich. Luckily the parents saw the funny side. She’s also dragged a dead seagull home (it was already dead and rotting) from the beach. She clamped her jaw round it and wasn’t giving it up for anything. I gave up and drove her home with it. Stunk my car out for weeks.

Same here - I love giblet gravy.

They sued to be standard when you ought poultry - even a frozen bird, but now you never get them. You can buy frozen packs of chicken livers, but I wonder what they do with all of those little gizzards and hearts and kidneys?

If you get them from the butcher they still have them inside I believe....

Neighbour's cat stole my bloody shoes. I got him on camera!!

Oh thank Christ - it's not mine!

One of my cats, when younger, used to steal clothing - gloves, hats, scarves, socks, underwear etc and bring it home. I was forever knocking on doors ("These your "Y" fronts. vicar?". )

Some never found its way back to its old home and I still have a very nice scarf, and a lovely warm hat from Galloway Golf Club

Edited to put an "a" in.

hahahahaha! I am waiting for a MN post saying:

"something really weird just happened and I literally cant explain it. I had just roasted a chicken, put it down on the table left the kitchen for 30 seconds and its just.....gone. Ive searched the entire house and cant find it anywhere"

Cue loads of "your husband ate it and is lying to you- LTB" responses

This happened to me with a duck which disappeared, but in fairness our two bull terriers had whipped it off the bench and scoffed it - red hot, just from the oven. there was duck geese all over the kitchen and their bed (and their faces).

As I say, it was red hot - I don't know how they ate it. They had the bones and all. I was worried sick about them for about a fortnight in case some sharp little shard punctured their stomachs or bowel, but they were ok.

I'd like to know where I can buy a chicken that still has a bag of giblets inside it.

Or maybe I could borrow PP's cat.

ive never had this from my cats… but when I was younger, next doors cat would sneak in the house to go into my room where I had a hamster.

He managed to kill my hamster through the bars of the cage. Just sliced it along the side.

I was sad but I also knew it was a cat and that’s what cats do

My mums neighbour told us the cat had eaten her Linda McCartney sausages that were cooling on the counter.

Big mistake. 😜

LaurieStrode · 15/01/2024 03:06

You know, this thread went from an amusing one of a cat nicking a cooked meal to a disgusting litany of domestic felines killing and torturing live animals.

Many of you seem totally unable to read the room and keep it lighthearted, or to have consideration for others.

Think before you post.

WhichEllie · 15/01/2024 00:27

I love some of these stories and I wish mine had just nicked food when I let her out! My older cat stayed inside, but when she passed from cancer I adopted a kitten that I decided to allow out in the evenings.

The problem was that I’d moved to the US and I had no idea what the hell animals she kept bringing back. It wasn’t just mice, no, she’d bring back piles and piles of these little venomous (!) shrews and leave them in heaps on the patio. No regular squirrels but she’d bring back a flying squirrel. No rats but she hauled in a muskrat (dripping wet and very proud of herself). Finally she dragged back something that I was sure was a neighbour’s pet ferret but actually turned out to be a mink.

I really wasn’t interested in becoming acquainted with the fauna of the Northeastern United States by having deceased specimens deposited on my doormat so needless to say she stays indoors now.

blacksax · 14/01/2024 23:30

Yeah well, at least cat owners don't keep pets that kill people.

If they did kill people then some cat owners would just be like "oh well, free to roam and all that"

blacksax · 14/01/2024 23:30

Fiddlerdragon · 14/01/2024 19:03

That’s why I don’t like cat owners. People on here describing how their cats have killed their neighbours children’s hamsters, pet/exotic birds, ripped the heads off a whole litter of guinea pigs, all like they’re hilariously funny anecdotes. It’s NOT kinder to have someone wonder what on earth has ever happened to a beloved pet, and perhaps spend months looking out for it, than have the balls to confess your pet entered their property and killed it. Some of the food ones are funny, but a lot won’t be if you’re in that situation. Actually shook my head at the pp who said their cat went out 4 times in the space of 30 minutes on Xmas day, coming back each time with an assortment of steaming hot food for a Xmas dinner, including the turkey. Why the fuck wouldn’t you think ‘that’s someone’s Xmas dinner my pets just ruined, perhaps I’d better keep it in for a little bit’.

Yeah well, at least cat owners don't keep pets that kill people.

Tallisker · 14/01/2024 23:18

Big koi carp are extremely expensive, the pond owners must have been livid.

And it’s not just the money, you can spend years growing them on and some of them get really friendly, they do have personalities and you get really attached to them when you spend time with them every day.

Yes some of ours are over 20 years old, they have names. Far longer lived than my catsSmile

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/01/2024 23:15

Just as balance to the cats eating pets posts. Our neighbour’s hamster escaped and somehow ended up in our house - we think he got in a gap under their sink and eventually made his way through pipes and appeared in our bathroom. When I got up and saw him wandering around the hallway I thought I had lost my mind. Anyway, with some quick manoeuvres and a Tupperware box, I rescued him from our cat (and lucky for hammy she is kept in the kitchen overnight or he would have definitely been a goner) and he was returned next door. His small owner sent the cat a card from the hamster which said “thank you for not eating me” 😂

My dog is a very naughty cockapoo , had a couple of embarrassing episodes . I’d not long had him as an 8 month old rescue and we have a huge beach near us. Thought I’d let him off lead for a run about and he made a bee line for an elderly gentleman who had just sat down with his nicely wrapped up sandwiches. He had just opened them and my dog ran straight up, took his sandwich from his lap and out of grabbing distance bolted the whole lot in seconds . The poor old geezer didn’t stand a chance, I was mortified . The second time he misbehaved was when my husband took him to the same beach. A man was swimming and had left his clothes on the beach. I wasn’t there but DH said he ran over to the clothes grabbed his socks and ran up the beach with them ignoring my husbands shouts . He eventually managed to prise them back from the dogs jaws a fair way from where he had stolen them and was hoping to get them back on the clothes pile before the guy in the sea noticed , horror of horrors , he saw the guy get out of the sea and was making his way back . My husband had to hand him the chewed socks!

Edited

Dogs are entirely different to cats! If you can’t recall a dog then they shouldn’t be off the lead!

A dog once stole a sandwich from right out of my daughter’s hand on a picnic and knocked her backwards. The owner seemed to think it was fine as “he didn’t mean to hurt her.”

I love dogs and had one growing up but these irresponsible owners drove me bonkers!

When my DH came back from work one Suday lunch time he saw a Siamese cat dragging a cooked leg of lamb along the road! My lovely ginger boy also had form for this!

😂😂😂

Oh dear 🤣

Isabelle70 · 14/01/2024 22:15

20 odd years ago the Christmas turkey was left out defrosting overnight. The next morning I find out the cats have got in the kitchen and gnawed one of the turkey legs! bit of bacon over the legs and no one knows to this day... we only used to eat the breast meat anyway.

tresales · 14/01/2024 21:52

My greyhound came in from the garden with a whole cat once 😂I didn't have the heart to tell the owners, they probably think it just found somewhere new to live! Oh well, dogs will be dogs

Not really but some of the stories on this thread about hamster and guinea pig killing are vile.

midnightfeastfeats · 14/01/2024 21:32

@McConkeysPlate
A friends beagle once stole a whole cooked turkey from the kitchen of a fancy country club

I'm very impressed with this. Beagles are small and turkeys are massive.

mamboshirt · 14/01/2024 21:22

We are rural and my cat loves to bring in and play with mice. Twice he has put them in my ugg boots. Twice I've worn them for a few minutes before realising and screaming and throwing the ugg boot at the wall. Poor little mouse then runs off bewildered and I have to chase it to catch it. Cat watches this all looking very amused. Cat is evil bastard😆

A previous cat of mine, a Himalayan, for some reason did not like my DH . One morning DH zipped up his gym bag for his lunchtime rugby game and rushed off to work. He phoned me about 1pm yelling and shouting about turning the cat into chop suey. I finally figured out that the cat had pooped in his gym bag during the night. The cat hid under the bed when DH got home and all was well.
