Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

my cat almost got accused of killing next door's bird 🙄

dysongirl · 15/01/2024 23:01

Our little rescue cat adores my curry lol

Anithos · 15/01/2024 22:54

My cat is not a chicken rustler. Nope. He brings home lacy thongs, bras and negligees. My OH said I should take them back. Take them back to where though??? I am NOT hawking them around the neighbourhood. Nobody would believe that Edgar(black longhaired criminal) had taken them. He's also brought home a giant straw hat, a high Viz jacket. Woolly hats and gloves. Shoes. Dolls. He's a menace. I wish he'd bring home fivers like another commenter's cat!!

Our Irish setter (long ago in the 60s when dogs used to be allowed out to roam in the streets) stole and presented to us: 1. a bag of porridge oats from the corner grocer; 2. the Sunday roast leg of lamb from one of the neighbours' houses in our street and 3. a greyhound puppy from a breeder's high-fenced enclosure. The puppy he nudged into the sitting room where the family were after dinner. We think he was miffed because we had rescued another dog that week and so he was thinking 'You want another dog? Well, here's one that I've chosen for you, OK?'. My father made inquiries and returned the puppy; the breeder had no idea how our dog had achieved the feat of getting in – and then out again with the puppy, who was completely uninjured. After that my father installed a seven-foot fence to stop the dog getting out and roaming. Dog watched as the fence was constructed, then as soon as it was finished, jumped over it with ease. Another layer had to be added to make it all secure. Dog was adored and lived mainly inside with us, but he did like to go on expeditions, as we called it.

Cats are so weird in scavenging the kind of food outdoors which they'd never eat inside. Chucked some old cake and bits of croissant on the grass for the birds today and looked out to see my greedy bastard tom eating it.

One of my Siamese cats loves croissants. She has been known (more than once) to rip open a pack from the supermarket and eat part of every one inside. She is the aforementioned old lady, so DH shares any croissants he has with her.

My ginger cat walked over a beautiful charcuterie board and stood on it to eat almost an entire cheesecake one Christmas while we were in another room

goingtohellinahandcart · 15/01/2024 21:25

Dd1 messaged me at work to say next doors cat had appeared on our door step with a whole cooked chicken breast in his mouth, it was a sunny day so we assumed he'd pinched Somebody's lunch 😂😂

GG1986 · 15/01/2024 21:07

Brilliant! 🤩

My cat used to filch the meat from my DH's sandwiches.

FindingNeverland28 · 15/01/2024 20:48

GildedAge · 15/01/2024 20:46

@FindingNeverland28 you have an inner cat which came out and stole that Yorkshire.

Not quite a pet stealing food, but YEARS ago I was having Sunday lunch with a friend in a beer garden. She had her kids with her that were playing on the climbing frame (side note - 2 other friends of mine were in the same beer garden and sat on a table near to us). I popped inside the pub to get some drinks, while my friend was checking on her kids. Our food was left on the table. I returned to the table first and noticed my Yorkshire pudding was missing (best part of the meal if you ask me). My 2 friends who were sat on another table were laughing and told me how a seagull had flown down and swiped it. Me being me, took my friends Yorkshire pudding off her plate and put it on mine. When she came back to the table, she asked where her yorkie was. I told her ‘you won’t believe it, but a seagull flew down and took it’ (trying to keep a straight face) she was so annoyed. I said, it’s okay. You can have half of mine and gave her half. I’ve never told her the truth to this day!

Same here - I love giblet gravy.

They sued to be standard when you ought poultry - even a frozen bird, but now you never get them. You can buy frozen packs of chicken livers, but I wonder what they do with all of those little gizzards and hearts and kidneys?

No idea - but now they have also removed the string! Had to Google how to truss a chicken the other day...
I am also a MN bone boiling stock maker, so miss the pack of giblets.

I need to have words with my current cat! He doesn't bring anything interesting home, unless you count a dragonfly.

We've had a cat in the past who wanted to be a vegetarian, as he brought flowers, weeds, carrots, a lettice and various twigs back. Another cat brought us a grass snake and an adder. Twice. The adder was dead, but the grass snake wasn't. Also squirrels, and pigeons (dead and alive).

A roasted chicken would be very nice!

We got up one morning to three dead squirrels one outside our bedroom one at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom suffice it to say we have no cat flap now and the cats are let in and out when needed /wanting and they are in at night in the kitchen with a litter tray.

The same cats also turned on our gas hobs through the night on three separate occasions we learnt to remove the knows at night until we got an induction hob. They are Mainecoons so big paws and jaws

Pjscout · 15/01/2024 20:08

This post is hilarious.
My DP’s old staffie ate through a set of jump leads, half a brick and a whole hedgehog 😢
My friends cat Milly used to jump into my bedroom throughout the dark hours leaving me various remnants of what I can only describe as a witch’s wish list for a spell - bits of mice, and small animals. I picked up what I thought was half a wine gum off the carpet and it was some poor creatures heart. It also used to entertain itself by dropping live mice into my room in the early hours and would sit back watching the ensuing chaos as myself and my Spaniel tried to catch them - it was a creepy cat much like the one out of Pet Sematary.

toomuchfaff · 15/01/2024 20:07

my cat once came home with a koi carp
Another time she came home with a full size green parrot (mortified)

Also random chicken legs (bbq days, someone lost their dinner)...

My cat ate next door's hamster!
Also rocked up with a boiling hot Cornish pasty in her mouth once. Mortified, I never told the neighbour, kinder to let her believe her hamster had escaped and run away.

I know I shouldn’t laugh about the hamster but I am 🤣

AnnieSnap · 15/01/2024 20:02

One of my Siamese cats struggled home one Sunday with an uncut Gammon joint. She regulary brought other joints that had been cut. She also repeatedly brought pizza that appeared to be fresh off a table and would pop in the open window of a neighbour’s house and steal their cat’s food out of its bowl. She is now an old lady and has retired from her criminal career.

Before her, 30-years-ago now (wow, time flies), I had a half-Siamese/half-alley cat, who favoured wildlife. He was a big boy, so that meant dragging crows home! Worse, he once managed to open next door’s rabbit hutch and brought home the (very little) remains of their pet rabbit, having eaten most of it 😳😔

Pizzakitty · 15/01/2024 19:56

This was my old cat a few years ago now. Would not relinquish it either - growled at me and then ate the lot. Really hope it wasn't attached to a person when he found it. Looked like a pizza how tie.

We also have a little female cat and when she was a lot younger she dragged a huge rabbit backwards through the kitchen window. She was tiny so no idea how she managed it. She was also a champion mole catcher.

My parents dog once stole a full-sized baguette from a nice family having a picnic. I wasn’t there, but am told the sight of him running around the park with it was pretty funny…although the poor family weren’t at all amused!
