I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch

Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

@FloofCloud I'm feeling unloved now! Why doesn't mine bring me home the odd dinner 😢.

Take it as a huge compliment! Cats bring us food because they think we are a bit rubbish and might starve. Yours clearly believes you have your act together.

ebts · 14/01/2024 16:29

I had a cat bring home a dead cockatiel! I looked around locally to see if there were any signs up, it was pre-Internet days so couldn't post in local groups etc.
Also had the cooked roast leg of lamb experience, a different cat.
A friend's cat brings home socks and underwear.

PossumintheHouse · 14/01/2024 16:28

There is a poor dog or poor cat somewhere out there with a massive boot up its arse, poor thing! 😂

God I hope the chickenless person posts something on their local Facebook page. Or even better, Mumsnet.

When my DH came back from work one Suday lunch time he saw a Siamese cat dragging a cooked leg of lamb along the road! My lovely ginger boy also had form for this!

Our old Siamese boy was the greediest cat you could ever meet. He came home once with a raw pork chop (the sort with kidney attached), another time with a freezer bag of half-defrosted liver. He stole a piping hot sirloin steak off my mum's plate and legged off down the road, dragging it like some diminutive leopard. But his finest hour was fishing a huge gammon joint out of the saucepan and onto the floor while we were out. When we came home it looked like it had been through a mincer. He was sitting very upright, obviously enormously uncomfortable, with his belly bulging out over his feet. We ended up ringing the vet as we were genuinely concerned he'd die as a result of overeating - but after many bowls of water, he settled down. The next day he stole my tuna sandwich.

He didn't seem to fancy gammon for a few weeks though.

Many (30?) years ago, when I was first dating my now DH, he had come to stay for the weekend, and we had been having a Sunday afternoon 'good time' in my living room (oh, the memories!). We were both naked - the cat chose that moment to come in through the cat flap with a pigeon in his mouth. The pigeon was very much alive - and the cat let him go.

I am very glad we had net curtains at the windows because I spent the next 10 minutes chasing a very peeved pigeon around my front room, with all my bits wobbling, whilst dh-to-be laughed his head off.

Rescued and released the pigeon. Fed the cat. Decided DH was a keeper :) I'm quite surprised he decided I was, too (and he ended up loving that cat!).

When I was a Nanny many moons ago the children's cat left headless guinea pigs on the patio for me over a period of weeks..
Never did find out where they came from!

DramaAlpaca · 14/01/2024 16:23

My late spaniel once came home with a whole cooked chicken in her mouth. Like OP I was mortified and kept quiet!

Fullfatandfortyplus · 14/01/2024 16:23

My cat brought home a hot roasted leg of lamb once. Sat there growling at anyone that went near him while he ate it!

Readingthedictionary · 14/01/2024 16:23

Reminds me of that book my little one likes reading, Slinki Malinki, the thief cat.

Such a funny thread. Cats are such devious little bastards 😂

RandomMess · 14/01/2024 16:18

Friends cat had the Christmas Turkey 2 years running, they did learn after that!

RandomMess · 14/01/2024 16:18

Live adult squirrel was the worst gift ever tbh.

Closely followed by baby squirrels.

McConkeysPlate · 14/01/2024 16:17

A friends beagle once stole a whole cooked turkey from the kitchen of a fancy country club

WellThisIsFun1 · 14/01/2024 16:15

Every cat I've had was a pork product thief - at half 7 one morning came up to the back door dragging a massive slice of ham in his mouth. That'll be someone's lunch mysteriously vanished in a blink of an eye then.

The other cat stole two chipolatas - one cooked and one raw.

IonaPenis · 14/01/2024 16:15

Bother that cat!

Finders keepers though.

Horriblewoman · 14/01/2024 16:15

I wish my cats brought home a kitten!

Mine turned up with a small packet of biscuits, text to our road WhatsApp revealed a lady had put them on her bench when going into get a cup of tea. I was very embarrassed.

FloofCloud · 14/01/2024 16:14

lol is his name Boots? My old cat used to bring all sorts home, one day he brought what was left of a beef joint - probably saved for someone's Monday sandwich... he wouldn't even eat it he just plonked it at my feet and ate cat food 🤪... apparently it's because they think you're a rubbish hunter

Mammyloveswine · 14/01/2024 16:13

Please post a pic this is hilarious!!

Also can just imagine the confusion "where the fuck is the chicken?!"

Cattymonster · 14/01/2024 16:13

This is the funniest thread I've read in ages! I really needed to laugh. Please keep the stories coming 😂

(My mind is boggling over the cat that stole a kitten, and the one dragging the leg of lamb along a road 😂)

Cattymonster · 14/01/2024 16:12

My dog ate all the sausages out of somebody’s hotpot they had cooking outside their tent. We colluded with our next door tent to say we’d seen a fox 😳

😂😂😂

A friend's cat stole a kitten. They never found out who the kitten belonged to so cat got to keep her 'baby' 🤣

Oh my god that's awful!!?

You do realise that your cat has possibly done a poor (MN) woman out of her entire week's dinners for a family of 5?

And stopped her from boiling the bones for stock? 😳

MrsMitford3 · 14/01/2024 16:09

My cat was in cahoots with our dog.

Cat spotted huge Easter dinner ham that was resting on the counter and pushed it to the floor where she and the dog devoured it as quickly as possible until they were rumbled...

No lessons learned.

LaughingAtClowns · 14/01/2024 16:09

Well done, that cat. 😂Did he enjoy his roasted chicken?

One of mine once came home with a large sausage from someone's BBQ
