I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch

Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

My granny used to talk about her cat appearing one day in the 40s, when meat was rationed, trailing a huge string of sausages. She heard the aggrieved neighbour giving out about it in the local shop a few days later, but she hadn't the courage to 'fess up.

Depending on how pissed off your neighbour is, they'll probably be checking their doorbell footage...

My old Maine Coone has evolved passed “catching” dinners, he has them brought. We noticed he would perk up when we had fish and chips but not pizza delivered, the fish and chip man was bringing him his own little fish and having a cuddle with him at the end of the drive. The fat git would still raise his head up like a periscope at the table trying to beg a bit of mine or DS’s fish though. I’m sure he runs a gang of pick pocket kittens from the back of the shed like a feline Fagin.

Also had a thieving Siamese , we learnt never to let them into the kitchen unaccompanied. One Sunday I found the elder cat sitting beside a cooked leg of pork, looking very smug. DH was quite cross, and accused her of theft, so I sprang to her defence and said that someone had probably thrown it out as leftovers, until he pointed out that it was still carefully wrapped in cling film.

I suppose she had brought it back for me to take the wrapping off for her.

My cat ate next door's hamster!
Also rocked up with a boiling hot Cornish pasty in her mouth once. Mortified, I never told the neighbour, kinder to let her believe her hamster had escaped and run away.

Is your cat called Freddie Starr?

I have a LOT of cats... 9 full time and 5-8 visitors. They only bring me mice and birds really...
Although Inky, one of my yard cats, had kittens. We were making sure there was enough food out at all times. We got to the yard one afternoon and they still had a bit of food, but Inky was nowhere to be seen - she turned up after 5 minutes doing the "I have food" miaow, and had brought them - a leaf! We were not providing enough salad, obviously!

My dog once ate my homework...

Mikimoto · 14/01/2024 17:12

Maybe your cat crept in.
And crept out again.

That's quite a catch. Our cat when I was younger caught a coy carp out of the neighbours pond. The huge fish was still alive and my poor dad had to take it back in a bucket and apologise.

It can't have been that shy, otherwise it would have hidden at the bottom of the pond. Wink

(Sorry, I couldn't resist)

We can only hope she managed to pluck it first, so she at least had something to stuff her pillows with, otherwise it would have been a truly awful waste!

Hahahah!! 😂

Just after Christmas one year, someone dumped a half eaten Turkey in a country park presumably for the benefit of the wildlife.

My Whippet sprang into life and dragged it out of the undergrowth to a grassy area and would not let man or other dogs anywhere near it.

The Turkey was huge and had lots of meat left on the carcass.

He proceeded to lay down with it and eat it like a lion at a safari park!

Ours once appeared in the garden with a gigantic steak. He went so mental over it I had to spray him with the house to get it off him.

Half an hour later he was back with another one. heard from shouting from a few houses down….

My cat was an extremely effective hunter, so it was sadly a common experience to find a lot of feathers and a dead bird in the hall when I got back from work. One day though, it was lots of feathers, no body and another cat’s toy mouse. I would love to know what happened!

I had the exact same thing in my head! Grin

Our cat has turned up with a slice of pizza more than once, we think he eventually caught on that we would take it off him because when I was on my way back from work one day I spotted him at the bottom of our road hunched over munching on a slice of pizza.

Georgyporky · 14/01/2024 17:08

I'd like to know where I can buy a chicken that still has a bag of giblets inside it.

Or maybe I could borrow PP's cat.

What? A human finger? Did you think about telling the police or summat Hmm
And that wasn't the reason for it to be put down was it?!

My ex H was a police dog handler. This particular dog was very well- behaved and could be relied upon to walk nicely on the end of his lead with very little attention. Until the day they were patrolling a street market and XH looked down to see the dog with a packet of Walls pork sausages in his mouth. He’d obviously snaffled them out of someone’s shopping basket.

My DH is also an ex dog handler.

The dogs were also great until food was involved.

The local 24 hour McDonalds would sneak burger patties into the bag when my DH went through on a night shift.

My lamb loving Rottweiler is a retired working dog.

We had a leg of lamb dragged through the door once. The dogs really enjoyed it and so did the cat!

Edited

Love this. Bet they couldn't believe their luck.

That reminds me of an episode of one of those police shows - the dog was off the lead hunting for a driver or something, and it took off after a rabbit instead Grin

Was camping and had some pork chops on the barbecue.
A seagull ran over, grabbed one off the grill and ran off.

floppybit · 14/01/2024 16:56

Last summer mum mum's cat came home with a huge freshly cooked steak in his mouth! Warm weather so people had their doors open. Someone must've left the steak on the side to rest while they sorted out the rest of their meal and the little swine has gone in and pinched it
