I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch

Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

Many years ago one of our cats raided a koi carp pond in one of our neighbours garden. Each morning we’d go downstairs to find a huge dead fish lying on the door mat inside by the kitchen door. He did three of them over three nights until we barricaded the cat flap.

When I was young, we had a cat who did this but he brought them back alive as he clearly had a mouth like a gun dog.

My parents carefully replaced them in next door's pond, convinced that was where he'd got them from until they expressed astonishment that their bare of fish pond was being filled with koi carp. The cat had nabbed them from a pond at the back of our house not the side 😂

My work colleague lives in Camden Town and once her cat dragged a seagull through the cat flap. To this day she has no idea where the cat found a seagull in central London

There are loads of seagulls in central London. We do have a pretty large river 😂

Ours are indoor cats but bring me hair bobbles, feathers and friendship bracelets out of my daughter’s jewellery box! The last friendship bracelet was bought in with much loud chirruping fanfare and it had “ je t’aime!” Stitched accross the bracelet material!! 🥰

Our cat was initially an indoor cat until we moved to a safer area. She is definitely not a seasoned hunter but does "catch" hair bobbles for me and very pleased she is too! I'm not so pleased when they get batted under the fridge. She also likes attacking plastic bags.

10 years ago in my North London garden flat I woke up and found the bananas in the kitchen had been eaten - some stolen.

That was funnier than when I was about 12 and when my parents went to get my tray bake chocolate birthday cake they discovered the dogs had eaten it. (And we learned dogs shouldn't have chocolate)

OP I choose to imagine the roaster of chicken is secretly delighted they have an excuse to not have that chicken! Also wondering WTF. Do you have foxes screaming at night ? They’ll probably get the blame.

sprigatito · 14/01/2024 18:14

Mine brought back an unopened packet of cat treats in a brand I've never bought. Just strolled nonchalantly through the cat flap and laid them at my feet to open.

My cat once crashed through the cat flap with a steaming hot rasher of cooked bacon in her mouth.

Hahahhaha this is very funny though!

This is Jose, the hairiest, hungriest, most slobbery labrador you could ever meet. We sadly lost him 2 years ago.

Once we were walking past a group of people sat in a circle on the beach doing some sort of group meditation/chanting. One man had left his lunch in a bag behind him and as we walked past Jose managed to swallow his sandwiches, including the clingfilm, without even breaking stride.

He also ate socks, underwear, dirty nappies, playdoh and cat poo. His most legendary story was when he dug up and ate our dead cat, threw her up, then ate her again. He was a twat but I miss him.

Jose is going to be a hard act to follow. 😆

My MIL had the girls coming for lunch made four beautiful ham salads, plated up and put on the trolley. All the ham disappeared, nothing else touched. We didn't realise at the time because it was a quick visit. Apparently she was completely baffled, searching the fridge for the ham she had mislaid.

One Christmas, we cooked a ham on Christmas Eve left on the side to cool. Husband wandered into the kitchen to find the cat and dog chowing down. Only the cat could have reached it.

Are you married to @MrsMitford3 ?!

My in laws cat brought home a live chicken once! Shock She was a tiny Siamese and about half its size. PIL rescued it and took it back to their neighbours. It seemed fine only a bit disgruntled, she'd just wrestled it into submission and kind of dragged it home.

StuckintheUSA · 14/01/2024 18:07

Our cat once brought back a slice of pizza. It was quite large, so I've no idea how she got it over the fence.

Ketzele · 14/01/2024 18:07

My sweet, elderly neighbour befriended a robin that would visit him everyday to eat out of his hand.

My cat brought it through the catflap. Horrific. I never told neighbour.

Talkinpeace · 14/01/2024 18:06

Old cat came home with a BBQ burger
and burned paws
we heard the neighbours shouting
said nothing

PianPianPiano · 14/01/2024 18:06

My cat brings home dog chews - the massive bone type ones... I'm always picturing the poor confused dog trying to figure out where it's gone!

sedilla · 14/01/2024 18:02

These are great! When I was turning 4, my mother iced a birthday cake for me to take to nursery and put it in the cupboard. Somehow my beloved cat got into the cupboard and licked all the icing off…! She also used to leave me “presents” of headless mice in my bedroom every night.

Funnily enough, when I turned 7, my cake was a model of the cat.

Achillo · 14/01/2024 18:01

Mine first brought two sausages which she left in a row outside my 2 dds' bedroom.
She didn't know we are veggie. But since then has also brought a margarita pizza slice, sweetcorn and packet of sweets so maybe she's worked it out!

I love this thread! So many naughty cats!!

I walked into the kitchen once to find the chicken I was about to cook no longer covered by the net tent thingy and Matthew the Cat, looking very cross, sitting underneath said net tent thingy right next to it.

Wish I’d taken a picture but was laughing too much.

WinterLobelia · 14/01/2024 18:00

One of our cats came home with a sausage.

Another cat... my neighbour called me in for coffee and said the cat was stealing fish from their pond. I said that could not possibly be true. About 3 minutes later my cat walked through her house and jumped onto my lap. With a wet paw to elbow.

dorry678 · 14/01/2024 18:00

Many years ago my dog gatecrashed a small child's birthday in the park and mugged a ham sandwich off one of the children. She inhaled it without chewing! the mum was going bananas.😳

A few years later she stole a large roasted beef joint, that had been left on the table after dinner. the only evidence was a smear on the table cloth, three days of explosive diarrhoea and a vets bill.

When I was a Nanny many moons ago the children's cat left headless guinea pigs on the patio for me over a period of weeks..
Never did find out where they came from!

😧 Poor piggies! 🥺 I kinda hope they were from a backyard breeder and not someone's beloved pets! Still sad for the piggies though.

I was on the opposite end of this once - left the plate of leftover Christmas Turkey on the side in the kitchen with the window open. Came back ten minutes later to find no Turkey on plate but could see white bits on the path. Went to investigate to find a few little bits of leftover Turkey on the path and the local feral cat sat at the end of the garden in a total food coma.

i changed the fly screens on the windows after that to try to keep him out! (This obviously did not occur in the UK!)
