I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch

Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

Years ago when my DM was a teenager her part-Siamese cat broke into her rather posh neighbour’s house and ate every bit of fish from the top of the canapés she had expertly prepared for a Red Cross buffet she was giving for around 30 guests.

You wouldn’t have known at first glance as he’d picked his way delicately across a massive table and eaten every tiny bit of smoked salmon, prawn, fish pate etc from loads of canapés without disturbing anything else, and then gone into her bedroom for a sleep on her nightie.

she was very good humoured about it 😱

Our last cat brought in a few rats when the neighbours were having an extension put in, which had obviously disturbed the local rat population.

He was thwarted by my FIL who saw him trying to drag a monster rat through the cat flap. I mean, it was mutant sized.

FIL intervened, the rat bit FIL on the hand and disappeared into the bowels of the house never to be seen again. The cat went out and brought another TWO rats back in quick succession who also disappeared into the house.

FIL had to go to A&E for a tetanus jab and even now never lets us forget how he suffered.

Cat of course remained unrepentant.

That's a horrible thing to do. You should have told her.

That’s why I don’t like cat owners. People on here describing how their cats have killed their neighbours children’s hamsters, pet/exotic birds, ripped the heads off a whole litter of guinea pigs, all like they’re hilariously funny anecdotes. It’s NOT kinder to have someone wonder what on earth has ever happened to a beloved pet, and perhaps spend months looking out for it, than have the balls to confess your pet entered their property and killed it. Some of the food ones are funny, but a lot won’t be if you’re in that situation. Actually shook my head at the pp who said their cat went out 4 times in the space of 30 minutes on Xmas day, coming back each time with an assortment of steaming hot food for a Xmas dinner, including the turkey. Why the fuck wouldn’t you think ‘that’s someone’s Xmas dinner my pets just ruined, perhaps I’d better keep it in for a little bit’.

ds ddog stole a lady's shoe from the beach while she was barefoot paddling,
she saw the funny side Grin

Mums cat was caught eating a near neighbours defrosting frozen chicken …eeek

They must have taken it well, as Mum didn’t buy them a replacement chicken

DorsetandBeyond · 14/01/2024 19:01

My cat came home on three separate occasions with enormous (cooked) roast chicken breasts. I have no idea where he got them from, but he always looked very pleased with himself. I imagined someone was baffled as to why their chicken dinners kept disappearing...

WhycantIkeepthisbloodyplantalive · 14/01/2024 19:01

My cat used to take socks and knickers round to the neighbours house and leave them in either his garden or kitchen (if window open). She started doing it when her kittens were too big to carry anymore.

The funny thing was, the male neighbour once knocked on the door and asked us to confirm to his live-out girlfriend that it was in fact the cat stealing my knickers and taking them to his house and not another women. The whole thing was mortifying really. One time it was a pair of rather nice black knickers m, I used to find a pile of underwear on my doorstep every couple of weeks!

Lovemydaxie · 14/01/2024 19:01

A dog one - my daughter left a bowl of strawberries and cream on the floor while she went to get a spoon. When she came back every speck of cream had disappeared and dog was sat there looking all innocent. Another time when he was a pup used to raid the dustbin bag in his mad half hour. Saw him running around the garden with a used mini pad in his mouth, full of joy 🤢. Also ate a pair of daughters used knickers from wash bin. He loved my daughter 😕

My cat brought me a mouse last night. Took us (me and the cat) and hour to catch him. The cat had the time of his life, I was so stressed out. But managed to catch and take the poor mouse out. Went to bed at 2am.

We had an evil twat cat years ago. He would Nick the Sunday dinner from under my nose. Once stole the ham and hid under the bed growling at us. We sadly had to re home him as he terrorised our original cat and nearly killed him. The couple who took him said he was the spit of their old cat. I warned them about his thieving tendancies, “oh just like Bobby. We had to put baby locks in all the cupboards and fridge because he’d open the door and steal everything.”
Our current cat stole a huge chunk of Wensleydale out of my shopping bag. He was under the table fending off the dogs.

When I was about 9 my neighbours cat got to my dad’s Xmas turkey one year when it was resting, he’d opened the back door to let some steam out. Unfortunately for the cat my dad was a bastard. The cat didn’t survive :/

Your Dad is horrible

Paw2024 · 14/01/2024 18:56

My friend woke up to her cat dumping a kitten on her bed like "here, you're alright looking after us, I found this"
She woke her boyfriend up and he was just "ah well, we best keep it then"
They never found the mum or any other kittens despite looking for days and kept the dumped kitten

My friend's dog ate the entire cake that her mum had baked and decorated for her son's birthday party. Her mum had put it in the spare room so it was safe until it was time to bring it out but her dad had gone in for something and forgotten to close the door...

OH that's bad mine only had the green Ghostbusters monster I had lovingly created and painted the day before out of marzipan that sat on top of the cake

Emeraldrings · 14/01/2024 18:55

My uncle turned round after making his lunch one day and when he turned back next doors cat was running out of the cat flap with his chicken in his mouth.

Ohnoooooooo · 14/01/2024 18:54

Our fluffy ragdoll cat has found someone who likes to brush him - once a day he goes out and comes home well groomed and brushed. We always tell him how lovely he looks and he's quite pleased with himself.

Twinklewonderkins · 14/01/2024 18:53

One of my cats is terrible for this, has in the past brought home
A Twix
some fancy French butter in a sausage shape cooked chicken wings
a packet of slightly defrosted mince
and once, a whole piping hot large takeaway spring roll. We live in a village and the nearest Chinese is about 8 miles away.
he obviously goes into houses on the rob.

My old cat loved a fresh rabbit from the railway behind us.

One day I opened the front door to find a black and white rabbit dead in the hallway 😳 I did ask neighbours, but it's owner was never found.

TinyRebel · 14/01/2024 18:47

The cats’ 4am howls of ‘owwwwt’ are very inconvenient, but reading this, am still very glad we don’t have a cat flap!

My inlaws cat got to the turkey one Christmas while it was resting... cats are funny things.

SameOldSong · 14/01/2024 18:46

Complaints from local chippy down the road, Runs in quick when customer goes in or comes out. I have to do the walk of shame and go and collect him. When he was younger he liked to follow us , now goes on his own accord.
Neighbours bought a garden table that they leave food on for birds to come down and eat, cat scoffs what he can, and uses it to sun bathe on, ends up with all bits of bread and butter, plus seeds, stuck to his long coat. ( Whilst never bothering at all with any of my garden furniture that l specifically bought to encourage him to stay in my own garden.)
Surrounding neighbours now pre warn me whenever they are having a BBQ due to his behaviour in the past, again lost count how many times I've had to go and retrieve the little sod, who is an absolute bugger to catch at the best of times. It's a good job l love him.

SomethingBlues · 14/01/2024 18:42

Our cat brought back a cooked chicken leg and a Yorkshire pudding. Two separate trips. If he’d have lived longer I’d imagine he’d have completed the whole roast dinner plate

Willmafrockfit · 14/01/2024 18:41

my dm was very pleased she had bought herself a small chicken to roast today,
i hope it is safe!

our cat donated a plant in a pot outside our back door, planted it and it turned into a giant sunflower

shellyleppard · 14/01/2024 18:41

My old cat stole the remainder of our Sunday lunch once.....and the other cat used to knock my partners lunchbox over and run off with his sandwiches 😂😂

TerrysNeapolitan · 14/01/2024 18:40

Not one of my four rescue cats ever brought me anything! Feel short changed after reading this! Not one of them would toilet outside either - just popped back in to do a steamy poo in the litter tray then off out again!! We had the reverse problem, the cat bowls left outside would then go missing, we think that was the fox.....never found any of them.
