Oh bollocks. I've just signed up to a series of kids activity sessions. I'm 37 and I don't have kids

I'm a member of a martial arts club that do adult and children's classes.

They sent an email yesterday with different summer offers.

One of their offers was six activity sessions (martial arts based sessions and more general social sessions) over July and August. The activities are: A craft afternoon, A movie evening, A sparring workshop, A small-group training session, and A trip to a local adventure playground.

I thought it looked great and so I signed up.

Then I forwarded onto a friend who pointed out that it's for children to keep them entertained over the six weeks holidays. It's not intended for 37 year-old, professional, child-free women.

In my defense (geddit) - I've done loads of non-martial arts stuff with the women's class including craft evenings, book groups, trips out etc. Plus, I kind of forget that the club does children's classes because I'm never there when the kids are going in or out. So, I'm telling myself it was an easy mistake to make.

I need to ring the club and tell them I want to cancel but I feel like such a bloody twat.

I can't lie and tell them I booked it for a child who's changed their mind. They know I don't have a child. Bollocks.

On a trip to London in my early 20s I met up with some friends at a cafe. I saw there was something called a babyccino on the menu, so ordered that thinking it was bargain at 50p. It came with a stirrer with a teddy bear on the top 🤣

A babyccino is just foamed milk for kids. Why would you want that?

Most of these are funny and easy to misunderstand. But a babyccino is for kids and everyone knows that.

When my DD was in primary, her class teacher gave reward points. There was a letter sent home which had to be signed and returned and teacher promised a reward point to any child who brought it back the next day. I said that surely I deserved the reward point as it was me who'd had to read/sign & get it sent in the next day. Teacher agreed and my name was duly put in the hat for the reward point prize draw at the end of the week. I won. DD got to choose my prize, I got a gold plastic trophy, loved it!

This is quite possibly the cutest post I’ve ever read! You sound adorable OP XX

This is hilarious. But also as a childfree woman I think loads of stuff that exists for kids looks mint. My niece goes to brownish and I want to go to a club and learn stuff too!

You need Rebel Badge club in your life. Books are available on Amazon and club page on FB.

Concrete cake cakes it chocolate concrete. Served with mint custard. Happy days.

I did this the other way round. Me and my husband recently attended a weekend away for over 65's. We were the youngest there by at least 20 years with the average age being around 80ish. Slopes everywhere for mobility scooters, soft food and entertainment finished by 8pm. Haven't laughed that much in forever.

Callmesleepy · 15/07/2023 14:31

I think the thing that gets me is the adult alternative is so much more expensive! I want to have fun inexpensively too, thanks.

Grin

There was a thread like this a few years ago, the OP had gone something similar. I can't remember the details.

Needhelp101 · 15/07/2023 12:19

I've also laughed out loud several times on this thread, especially at OP, the saving the family from fire creative writing exercise and the Life Skills for dogs 😂

Hotterthanhades · 15/07/2023 11:35

Sorry but you’ve really made me laugh! This thread has really cheered me up.

I’d own it! Be honest with them- think you’re more likely to get your own money than if you make up a fake kid 😂

Also- have always been slightly jealous of the kids club- wish adults could go to the same things!

TrustyRusty68 · 15/07/2023 10:22

That’s funny! But just tell them the truth - you misread it & didn’t realise it was for kids! They’ll probably laugh too!!

5555L · 15/07/2023 10:01

this has made me laugh so much haha

Robin2008 · 15/07/2023 07:35

Thanks everyone. I’m reading this in a hotel room and I’m howling with laughter. Am afraid someone’s going to knock on the door asking if everything is ok 🤣

BrucieBru · 14/07/2023 23:15

Just tell them the truth ffs 😂😂 it’s an easy mistake to make and something I would definitely do 😅

Whalesong · 14/07/2023 16:21

Other way round, but when I was about 13 or 14 and my siblings 12 and 6, we were in France with our parents, and Dad took us to lunch because Mum was doing something else. The waiter clearly thought I was Dad's new wife (I was already very tall) and kept addressing us with big flourishes as Monsieur, Madame and Les Enfants. Dad was flattered so didn't correct him, I was embarrassed but saw the funny side. Until he brought out ice creams on the house "pour les enfants" and I didn't get one. Oh how my siblings gloated.

Starlightstarbright2 · 14/07/2023 15:57

This is my favourite post of the day...

You are just young at heart.

Talkingtothetrees · 14/07/2023 15:53

Just say it was for your niece or nephew but you need to cancel and be super vague

forgotmyusername1 · 13/07/2023 17:09

my friend hired a soft play after hours for her 18th birthday party
we were drunk going down the slides and in the ball pit

still one of the best parties I have ever been to

An inflatable activity centre close to us does 'adults only evenings'. No alcohol though I don't think.
I always thought it sounded great fun!

I signed up for a children's craft session once, due to the nature of it I didn't assume it was just for children...I didn't find out until I got there and they got me my own table to do it on. I still cringe about it now 😂

I did that once as well. But fortunately realised in time!

Emmamoo89 · 13/07/2023 20:20

Definitely go 🤣🤣

Ahwig · 13/07/2023 20:06

A friend and her sister were on a trip to New York just before Christmas. They went into Macy's to look at the Christmas displays and were wandering round pointing stuff out to each other and taking photos, when the display turned a corner and they followed it to hear a deep voice say" well you look a little bit older than my normal visitors but if you've both been good girls, feel free to sit in my lap and tell me what you want for Christmas " unknowingly they'd joined the queue for Santa. After trying to calm down after a fit of the giggles ( which Santa also had) they embraced it , sat on his lap and came away with a souvenir photo.

EnthENd · 13/07/2023 20:06

There are, or were, some soft play places aimed at teens and adults. The usual kind of stuff but scaled up. Had some massive vertical-drop slides. So yeah, I can see how you wouldn't have suspsected anything of the "adventure playground".

HighKicking · 13/07/2023 19:49

Nursery for adults would be fabulous! Complete with school dinners too, concrete cake if possible!
