Does parking on a closed road count as a live parking thread? 😁

So they have closed the road I live on to resurface it. It will be closed for the next two nights. We’ve had multiple letters from the council, there have been signs up for at least a month and yesterday they painted NO PARKING THURSDAY AND FRIDAY all over the road.

8 cars are still parked there with 15 minutes to go until resurfacing begins. One of the cars is right outside my house and when I saw them out the window, I tried to explain to the two women (looking like they were off for an evening in town) that they were probably not going to be able to get their car until morning but they told me to fuck off!

The road is lorry central, a guy is taking pictures of the remaining cars… it’s all go here.

Anyone know what they do? Do they just resurface round the cars? Tow them away? Do they get brutal? There’s a fair few annoyed looking men in hi-vis walking up and down! Should I get wine and a comfy viewing position?

😉

Is there room on the bench for me? I've got wine and crisps and will share.

I'm 'reading on replay' as I missed this (HOW??? 😢) yesterday...and for once I'm not 'cheating' by going to the end!

I've just gone and poured myself a big (HUGE ☺️) glass of wine and opened a family sized bag of Kettle Chips...I'm so invested 🤣

My Friday Night In is sorted 🥰

OP I LOVE your diagram and photos 🤣 You're an absolute legend!! 🙌🏼

Jillybloop393 · 22/04/2022 19:05

Loving your diagram, it makes it so much more real! Can't wait for updates ...

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 22/04/2022 19:02

Placemaking for tonight's shenanigans 🤪
Even though I've no idea where any of this is happening, and I don't even live in the UK.

Is this the thread that accidentally got deleted that everyone was upset about?

Yes.

I’d say more about it, but it’s still very raw.

SheAndHerAreWomen · 22/04/2022 18:50

I'm loving this thread!

Also, have to add that two of my DCs were born in Waitrose 😂 I think the NHS must have a habit of selling off unused hospital buildings to supermarkets.

Cotherstone · 22/04/2022 18:50

I am stuck in the house with the lurgy tonight sadly otherwise I would have had to walk up and enjoy the entertainment myself. I’d love to see all the pissed people turning up at 12 to find their car has been towed..

olympicsrock · 22/04/2022 18:49

It’s not a human femur. There is no femoral head / trochanters.

Owlnoises · 22/04/2022 18:48

According to Google maps the town station is 'busier than usual'. I wonder if a load of MNers have decided to visit in person for this evening's instalment... Grin

NoisyBrain · 22/04/2022 18:47

I believe the old maternity hospital was on the site now occupied by Waitrose (and Safeway before that)

Horizons83 · 22/04/2022 15:14

To be fair it's been a while since I drove down it, but I think it's Carter's Lane (with 'formerly known as Wibbly Wobbly Lane' underneath).

Ah, my home town! Anyone else on this thread who was born in Waitrose?! 😃

You were born in Waitrose?!

namechangeanonymous · 22/04/2022 18:42

Paper towel wrapped around my non alcoholic prosecco and settling in for episode two.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 22/04/2022 18:41

What in earth was wrong with Wibbly Wobbly Lane?!!

Chica10 · 22/04/2022 18:40

Brilliant thread!

HippoRaine · 22/04/2022 18:38

I don't even want to say this and ruin the magic but that's not a child's bone. From the pic my best guess would be pig humerus. Sorry.

BrightonBunny · 22/04/2022 18:36

Hoping for more winching and towing!!

HistoriaTrixie · 22/04/2022 18:29

Another archaeo here. I think it looks like a pig bone but I can't be sure not knowing how long/wide it is. Almost certain it's not human (sorry to disappoint!).

Mummapenguin20 · 22/04/2022 18:23

Im intrested in the cars being towed but oooo that bone

PetsPalace · 22/04/2022 18:22

Horizons83 "Ah, my home town! Anyone else on this thread who was born in Waitrose?!"

My partner's said more than once that he was born in the Safeway there! He needs to update his anecdote 😂

WordleWitch · 22/04/2022 18:22

I'm settling in for episode 2 !!! Loving this thread

TeenPlusCat · 22/04/2022 18:11

Can we have an up to date picture pretty please?

DailyMaui · 22/04/2022 18:09

FUCK OFF CAR HAS BEEN WINCHED ONTO LORRY

👏👏👏👏👏love it the fuck off car was first😂😂

chisanunian · 22/04/2022 17:41

Random musings:

I want to know where they took FO woman's car, and whether she's found it yet!!!

St Evenage is the patron saint of roundabouts.

I'm partial to a bit of Wobbly Bottom cheese.

Once upon a time I lived in Hedgehog country, and also L and St E, but am now to be found over yonder border, where the council charges a fortune in council tax and then doesn't spend it on what they should. We had our footpaths resurfaced recently, and only a few weeks later they already have little dandelion volcanoes pushing up the tarmac. Would have helped if they'd got rid of the weeds first, really.

VeryLongBeeeeep · 22/04/2022 17:40

I am not usually a fan of parking threads. They're usually too try-hard with the first two pages clogged up with 847 posts of "diagram or it doesn't count OP".

But THIS...this thread is absolutely fucking epic Grin

(I once bought a car in this town, despite never having lived in the county nor any of its neighbours. Do I win most tenuous connection?)
