To ask for an explanation for wtf just happened? **MNHQ UPDATE: Mystery solved!**

I'm seriously creeped out and can't figure out a rational explanation so I'm hoping someone can!

Sitting in the kitchen, eating dinner when a black shape ran past my legs, close enough that I felt it pass. Figured it was my cat at first but when I stood up, she was sitting on the windowsill!

The dark shape ran into the living room where my partner is (he saw it too, because he shouted me!)

It apparently jumped on the sideboard and vanished in front of his eyes. There's nowhere it could go - the sideboard is solid oak on a solid stone wall.

The dog is now going mental at the sideboard like there's something there (if there is, we can't find it!)

I'm genuinely creeped out - anyone have a rational explanation? What the hell did we see?

Pippin is absolutely gorgeous! And bloody lucky if you have a terrier in the house!
We have 3 terriers, all keen ratters, but are terrified of the neighbour's bunny (which comes round and steals the chicken food on a regular basis). It's a big bugger mind, and despite being free range (as they can't catch it) for a year or so, has survived the many foxes around here too.

BytheRules62 · 19/02/2022 21:53

Hilarious and such a relief that I'm no longer afraid to go to bed!

Parpophone · 16/02/2022 14:16

It's pretty "classic"in the sense that people are still jumping in after 300 plus messages to say with great certainity "it's definitely this", when it clearly isn't.

Not only is there a photo, the title was swiftly amended by MN (and even has capitals!).

Shameless attempt at classics. Yawn.
As you all know we disapprove of these kind of posts so the only response is... Wink
NeverTouchWarmPants · 16/02/2022 12:17

Ignore @furbabymama87, there's always one 🙄 @WeirdlyKind
I found it funny, never have thought of a pet rabbit wandering around

What's classics?

Not attempting anything and genuinely don't own a rabbit so it's not like I staged the pic.

One wire nibbled unfortunately but luckily it's on the lamp and not the TV.

Her owners had noticed she'd escaped but were searching their own house for her! They and her boyfriend were very happy to get her back 😁

@WeirdlyKind

We're all wrong!

It was next door's bloody rabbit! Sitting watching Call the Midwife and the damn thing hopped out from behind the TV unit. Nearly gave me a bloody heart attack!

That's hilarious! Glad you got an answer. And such a cute one too.

@me109f

Probably a rat. They are black. Varmints can disappear into tiny gaps. I have rats outside but not inside. Occasionally mice get in and are very difficult to trap or clobber. I once saw a mouse climbing up my outside brickwork so they can nip into open windows, and gaps around piping.
It was a rabbit. There's a photo upthread.Grin

Varmints can disappear into tiny gaps.

Shouldn’t that be ‘pesky varmints’?

I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen the word used on MN!

Ahhh, this is such a heart-warming thread but wtf to your neighbour's bunny gatecrashing! Hilarious!

TimmyHutchFan · 15/02/2022 19:49

Rats can leap up to 12 feet, so yes. probably a rat.

Are you sure it’s not a capybara? Wink

@Bertiebiscuit

Plainly a rat - they can be bigger than you imagine - fattened up on all that dumped junk food - and are very very agile - I was being shown into a hotel bedroom about 6 floors up in Vietnam when a rat jumped out the window as we opened the door - I was huge. Black and very very fast

@Bertiebiscuit

No, plainly not a rat.

There is even a photo (and a massive CLUE that there might be an update in the thread title)

Fetchthevet · 15/02/2022 16:09

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit... it was a rabbit everyone, you can stop guessing now!
