Help me place this actor??

I saw him on a train. Can’t for the life of me remember who he is.

He’s a British tv actor, probably in his 50s or early 60s. Grey hair, used to be blonde. Piercing blue eyes. Often plays a hero/ love interest type role.

a bit like Greg wise but shorter!

I feel sure he was in a Sunday night drama or a soap or something but I can’t find him online! It’s driving me mad!

I saw an actor on a train once, I recognised him but don't know his name. He was in The Crown, a young Prince Phillip was on a ship and asked the captain to turn round and help some people on an island, the guy I saw was the captain, (though Matt Smith would have been just as exciting).

Richard Dormer? He’s not so tall and is very piercing, and a bit rugged Mark Bonnar-ish? Not sure about the cleft chin as I’ve only ever seen him with a beard. I also can’t picture him as a love interest, so I’m probably way off!
